Without a doubt, you are the BEST referral teacher!!! Your videos are SUPER helpful, and they work!!!!👍👍 You tackle issues that are exactly what we are dealing with!!! I passed my Express demo and my mock interview the first time, but your video STILL speaks to me. I am a combo of Nervous Nicky and Perfectionist Pat. 🤦 Thank you for all your great videos, tips, and support!!! Looking forward to the next coaching session! 😁
Same! I passed first try on both and I was honestly super surprised when I passed my first mock. I didn't even get to the last 2 slides. But I was very upfront with how I knew I needed to practice pacing and showed I was determined to attend workshops and take my mentor's advice.
@@mimi_wandering Ooh....I LOVE your comments, Mimi! I think that proving that we are teachable goes a long way!! I also didn't finish all of the slides in my mock, so I was surprised to pass the first one. Thanks for sharing your insight! 😃
I went into VIPKID blind. I did not know anyone who was a teacher, or even knew about it. I watched Kristina's Videos on RU-vid and learned the myriad of things I needed to know. I signed up for a "Coaching Day" not realizing it was a "Fast Pass" and was told I had three days to do my first Mock! I had knocked out a front tooth in a fall and did not have the temporary yet, so I had to postpone it for a bit. Of course I didn't pass on the first try, or the second, either! I am a perfectionist (and retired teacher) and could not believe I did not pass on try one. But then, like Kristina said, I calmed down and figured I would approach the Mocks in different ways and get feedback from the Mentors. This turned out to be very valuable. You learn by your mistakes. I printed the feedbacks and put them all together. Now I knew what NOT to do! I did get one really mean spirited Mentor, but most have been super nice and helpful. I hit the ground running and had my Trial 3.0 by my second week. I started with Level 2, but have added PreVIPKid (Level 1) and Level 3. I have done my classwork and passed the Level 4 test, I just need to find time to make a video. I also started adding Supplementary Classes, like Phonics and Voice of VIPKid, even though I can't sing. I average over $1,000/month, but not everyone is that lucky. I only post a few slots every week. I do 7 - 9:30 every morning and evening classes on Friday. That's it. I usually stay booked, but right now with summer vacay, it is a little slow. I just passed day 100 and am very happy I joined VIPKid! Although most of my B & M teaching was Intermediate level, I love my little Level 1 cuties to the moon and back. What fun, and they even pay me! I belong to Kristina's Facebook Group for Hired Referrals and have met the nicest people. I even discovered a lady in my neighborhood only 1/3 if a mile away! We are fast friends now and love going to "Meetups" together.
Hello, my dear Jayne! What a fun surprise to see a comment from you on my channel. So happy to know that you're loving VIPKid...thanks for bringing me along for the ride! 😃
I am definitely a Nervous Nicky! I just took my first mock class and didn't pass. I'm so thankful I came across your video because I truly felt defeated. I do agree that I'm not ready and I need the practice. Thank you so much for creating this!
Hi, Ally! So happy to hear that this video was helpful to you. You'll get 'em next time! If you're not yet working with a referring teacher, feel free to add me (KRIST0230) and then send me an email (TeacherTinaVIPKID@gmail.com) and my team and I will rally around you to help! You've got this, Ally!
I was, beyond a shadow of a doubt little Ms. Overconfident Skilled Perfectionist ! I watched a lot, A LOT of videos on RU-vid about the mocks and about the company itself. I worked with children in a professional capacity for over 15 years, teaching in daycares. I was (and am) on my way to become a licensed teacher in my state. I had props. I had a classroom. I had the whiteboards and markers up the wazzoo! I read over the slides over and over! But when it came time for the mock one, I was a deer in headlights. My camera turned on and my brain turned off! When Kristina says that real world experience doesn't necessarily correspond with the VIPKID classroom, she is absolutely right! I thought I had it all, baby! I WAS WRONG! I Completely flubbed it up big time! Humble yourself, O future VIPKID teacher and recognize that you will need practice, even if you have been a teacher for a million years!
I LOVE THIS COMMENT!! Oh my goodness! Thank you so much for sharing your experience. You are a perfect example of someone who is super experienced but still needs to adapt. I really appreciate you sharing your advice! What video requests do you have?
@@KristinaGarcia Actually, I just viewed one of your feedback videos. I don't like cookie cutter feedbacks. Yep, I'm one of THOSE teachers. 😄 I was looking for a way to make my feedbacks a little more personal and I found one of your videos. Could you please address how long it takes to get a feedback from parents? How do I encourage them to write back besides asking them questions about their child?
@@SuperIamshe Hi there, @Superlamshe! How long it takes the parents to leave feedback totally depends on the parents' decision to leave feedback. I think that making our feedback conversational at the end can help! One time, I got the feeling that the parents didn't read the feedback no matter what. This was for a regular student who I taught many times. I knew that this student's mom sat next to my student during our lessons. So I typed in the chatbox at the start of the class: "Mom: If you enjoy our classes, please leave teacher feedback. Thanks!" and sure enough, she sent me lots of feedback!
I’m a nervous one!! My mom’s great mom-advice: nervousness can come across as excitement if you ACT confident! It worked for me! Passed on the first try and then BOOM I was hired and wishing I’d had more mocks to truly get more comfortable 😂🤷♀️. Thanks as always, Tina!
Hi there, Kelly! YES!!! That's great advice....way to go, Kelly's mom! 😜 Nervous energy is still energy...we just need to convert it!! Isn't it funny how those of us who pass the first time wish for more mock classes? The grass is always greener, I suppose. Thanks for being here!!
I passed mine on the first try. I attribute this mainly to keeping it simple and not trying to incorporate too much outside advice. I took a few simple, solid tips and fused that with my own teaching style. I feel when the new teachers worry too much or try to emulate others is when it becomes challenging for them to pass. It truly doesn't have to be so complicated. I say don't overthink it, cover all the key points/objectives, and be yourself. If it's meant to be, it'll work out because there's only so much a mentor can do for you. The teacher has to take the reigns and make it happen!
I love your insight, Allie! Thank you for sharing so candidly. That's definitely something I value, too---teachers being true to themselves rather than copying someone else! YES!
Love that VIP KID uses a growth mindset approach to their hiring process. Thanks for sharing this, it calmed my nervous Niki side before going into the first mock interview!
Thank you. Thank you. Thank you. I'm stinging from having not passed my 2nd mock. This video helped a bunch as I see myself in your four types. You nailed many of my weaknesses. Hardly a tough love video - more of a "the answer I've been seeking" stated with love video. Thanks.
Rebecca, I'm so happy to know that my words resonated with you..thanks so much for taking the time to share that feedback! There's something to be learned from every situation. If you'd like to share the latest in your journey....be my guest! I'd love to hear how you're doing now. 😊
@@KristinaGarcia Passed mock 3! … What this video did for me was help me get out of my own way of success, objectively look at the things I was doing that were compromising my efforts, and formulate an effective plan of action to improve my performance. I transformed my "studio" to incorporate your drip pan/shower curtain back drop. That was a bit of work as my drip pan was used! But now my back drop is nice and bright, and I felt confident standing in front of it. Also, I teach chemistry at a community college, and I teach standing, so I made that transition as well for my VIPKid classroom; another tip from you. That change helped me stay in my "teacher head space." And I did two VIPKid trainings which were excellent. So much work went into getting that passing evaluation - I believe my mentor said I exceeded expectations (yes, I'm bragging a little but I earned it!), and I'm very excited to have made it to the next phase! … There are a lot of very good VIPKid teachers doing these types of videos, and they're giving great advice. I know, I've watched a lot of them. However, when I evaluated which videos had given me the advice that I systematically employed those videos were yours. Thanks for creating them.
@@rebeccaoliver5306 Oh my goodness...I'm so honored that you took the time to write such a detailed reply! CONGRATULATIONS on doing such a fantastic job on your third mock class. I admire your perseverance and "can-do" attitude! I hope that you love your new classroom setup and your standing desk. I wouldn't have it any other way! I'm confident that you will be a very caring and effective VIPKid teacher for your students. Thank you for spending time with me here on my channel! I'd love to hear from you again sometime, Rebecca!
I'm a nervous Nicky. I'm so thankful that I passed my mock the first time. I went to a live training session too and I'm so glad I did. I'm about to sign my third contract. This is a great video!
Great job passing it quickly....you must have done a superb job preparing! Congratulations in advance on signing your third contract. You rock!! I appreciate you stopping by my channel and leaving such a kind comment, too, Bonnie! 😁
Love the Practice Makes Performance! Yes! Third contract and each class is exciting and new and never really the same! I teach levels 3-7+ and am so happy with this job!
Hi there, Pam! So happy to hear that it resonated with you...and that you're loving VIPKid! I agree--every class is so unique. Do you have a favorite level? I prefer Level 3!
I liked how you put it straight. I am new to VIPkids and have had a difficult time getting booked. You gave me some great ways to make myself better and to give me the opportunity to stand out with parents. I have a teaching certificate and thought that would be enough to get me through. I will defiantly be taking workshops and also getting certified in teaching trial classes. Thank you so much.
Hi, Yvonne! I'm so happy that you found this video to be helpful...thanks so much for sharing! Enjoy going for the trial certification and taking workshops. You've got this!
I havent applied yet but plan on it. I am watching tons of videos and asked someone to be my referral teacher, i wish i could have you too! The idea of the community is amazing. I love your videos and the tough love. That speaks to me. I definitely identify with both of the confidence ones you brought up. Thanks for this video.

Very good reminder. This video will help me as I refer teachers to VIPKID. Kristina is an awesome VIPKID teacher! She has helped me in many ways. Thank you Kristina. I am me!
Amazing Kristina! This was a very nice and helpful video! Very informative and precise! Surely aspiring online ESL Teachers will be successful if they follow the tips you mentioned in this video. I find it really fun, especially when you teach kids! Thank you in advance!
As I already have a pretty noticeable generalized anxiety disorder, interview processes are kind of my own 9th circle of personal hell. However, smooth seas do not make for skilled sailors, so seeing that I am clearly not the only one with my own quirkiness about me and that there are others with hangups who have made it through the gauntlet, I believe I am capable of making it past this and onward into ESL employability.
omgg you are too sweet...I absolutely love this video lol out of the hundreds of VIPKid videos I've seen this is the first comment I leave. I must say I am definitely the nervous nicky lol!! and B-e-a-utiful plot twist in the end! Thank you for the encouragement!
Thank you for your GREAT videos! You put so much effort and work into helping others! I am just now considering VIPKID, but you make it sound so wonderful. I identify with Nervous Nick and lack of confidence. But you are giving me courage to try VIPKID!

I have not yet completed the demo lesson, but I can certainly relate to all four personalities. It is possible to be all four at the same time, which is what I am. I loved your video and think you are an inspiring teacher.
That's interesting that you can identify with all four of the personalities, T M! It sounds like you have a few sticky note reminders to enjoy. 😉 Thanks so much for your kindness and support!
Just Passed my interview on my first try. Much thanks to Well God first...then you and a few others on youtube. I chose you as my referral because I love that you are willing to continue mentoring beyond passing the mock classes. Hope to chat with you soon!

I am a nervous Nicky for sure. I have rescheduled my mock class so many times because I felt unprepared that I am now nervous about getting thrown out of the application process :/ Thank you for the informative and encouraging video!!
This advice is so, so great! Especially the beginning. I have taught ESL for several years in various settings (french schools and summer camps) and different ages (7-20) and each setting requires different skills and energies. I have zero B&M experience, but I honestly see a huge difference in teaching in general and teaching ESL. It's a way different challenge for the kids, and I try to be very patient and understanding because I myself was a TERRIBLE french student. Eventually I could read/write, but speaking came much later. Other students in classes with me could speak fluently but couldn't write. You are so right, adaptability is the most important. I am apathetic alex myself (though I was fine in mocks, but now in teaching) in that I figure well I've done this I know how it goes and sometimes I can see myself being less energetic and using less props / getting frustrated. So applicants, keep your energy and passion! Don't let it fade out! You got this! Great video Tina. Linked from the Hutong.
Mimi, I love how you've shared your fresh perspective on here! I think that learning another language makes us much more empathetic as ESL teachers. I find it so interesting that you consider yourself to be Apathetic Alex...and how awesome is it that you recognize that you've got to keep that energy up! It's easy to get complacent in things that we routinely do. I think your comment will be so helpful to newbies!! Thanks again for engaging with us on here, Mimi! 👍
You've got this, Amanda!! As a perfectionist myself, it's helpful to keep the big picture in mind: you're preparing to teach kids and it'll be easier to prepare for them if you get more practice now! Thanks for being here. 😁
Thank you! Thank you! I took my mock earlier today and I'm sooo NERVOUS to get the results! I practiced for hours. I think you nailed it in this video and I feel like a load has been lifted off my shoulders. I assumed I had to pass the first time or it would be frowned upon. I wish I could use your referral code but unfortunately I already used someone else's.
Hi, Caitlin! Oh, I'm so happy that you can breathe easily now! Repeat mocks are a blessing in disguise...so if you're asked to do another, you're in luck! That's sweet that you wish you could add my code...thanks! Wishing you all the best, Caitlin! Thanks so much for visiting my channel! 😁
Wow--thanks so much!! Especially since you're an MCM, it means a lot to me that you took the time to watch my video and leave a comment. I know that people often get frustrated with the mocks but it's often a matter of them getting in their own way. Any tips for those in the mock stages?
Love this! I have my mock today and you made me feel 100 times better! I'm a Skilled Sam but I'm not going to beat myself up if I don't pass. You're awesome Kristina. Thanks for making me feel so great.

Hi, Cosima! VIPKid is usually flexible with the deadlines as long as you keep them in the loop. I suggest sending an email to the hiring team at Teachvip@vipkid.com.cn to let them know that you plan to do the next mock class on [whatever date you choose]. I suggest also copying your referring teacher on that email and asking him/her to "reply all" to it! Good luck, Cosima!!

Great info! What happens if you associate with more than one person? I’m nervous Nicky and Perfectionist Pat. I’m nervous to fail because I’m a perfectionist and will be crushed if I fail.
Hi there! It's totally normal to associate with more than one person. It's all about overcoming the mental blocks so that you can achieve what you set out to do!

Ok, this was not a good waste of time, but also not what I expected from the title. The title suggests that your mentor is lying to you about why you are not passing. (Like there's the reasons they give you in writing, and there's the REAL reasons that only you know about apparently.) I'm glad that didn't turn out to be your point. This video was really more of a pep talk. It didn't reveal to me any hidden reasons why I might not pass, and I'm glad about that. I refer to take my mentor at her word, and I do. Still, there were plenty of good tips and encouragement in your video that are good reminders, so thanks for posting this.
It's cool that you can see yourself in all four! Thank you for your kind comments. When you're ready to apply, feel free to use my link and I'll support you, Angela! bit.ly/ApplytoVIP
Such a great video! I've watched a bunch of RU-vid ViP teachers, and your videos are just awesome!! I feel so much better after watching this. I am art perfectionist/ part skilled Sam. I would add you as my referral bu I have a friend already who is helping me.

Thank you, Thank you! This video was so helpful. After seeing this I passed my mock class. And I went into it with the thought, "It's okay if I don't pass. If I don't pass that just means I'm not quite ready." Thank you again!
Oh, I'm SO happy to hear that it helped you, Christine! That's such a healthy mindset that you had. I'm happy for you! Thanks for being here 😁 Have you started teaching yet?
Thanks so much for the advice. You are right. I am an experienced classroom teacher and I've had student teachers myself. Online teaching is completely different. I can relate to the deer in the headlights comment. That was me too. I think there is always something to learn so I will do it again and hopefully this will do the trick. Thanks agin for such a great video. It's really helpful.
Hi, Bridgeen...or shall I say, Perfectionistic Pat! 😜 That's so funny that you can relate to that person, even now! Thanks for sharing...and for stopping by my channel! Happy teaching!!
Hi, I did not pass my first certification on some minor points. They have invited me to try again. Some of the feedback was a bit confusing and I could do with some help. I haven't used a referral code, so that is up for grabs! PS I think a 5th type of candidate should be added; "Johnny not quite good enough!" Closing the last gaps can be very tricky.

I'm already sunk. I took it once but have had to reschedule the retake more than once. I work a fulltime job and weekends are the only time when I can retake it as I need my husband to be there distracting my two year old. Because I can't reschedule a week out I had to reschedule it multiple times to get a time when I could do it and then last weekend I was sick. I rescheduled it for tonight but the mentor who did my first one clearly wanted perfection based on her feedback. So of course now I'm both nervous and a perfectionist.
Hi, Kathleen! It will all be ok! It sounds like you have the perseverance and desire to be successful. I encourage you to join our community so we can rally around you in support! bit.ly/YourVIPKidJourney
Ahhh a few moments in and I realise what you are talk g about. The term “mock” class has a somewhat different term here in the UK. It’s quite normal to teach an observed lesson at a job interview here. I have just started teaching online with a company called interhigh after 20 years in a classroom. There are different skill sets involved and it’s a learning journey. Some may view teaching online as a soft touch, it certainly is not. There are different challenges ahead but challenges all the same.
Hi there, @FIFTEEN Q! So are you saying that a "mock" in the US is an observed lesson during a job interview? If so, then it may be very similar to a US/Canadian "mock." I love what you said about there being challenges with online teaching. It's true! Have you been enjoying the change?
Thanks so much, Paul! Due to safety concerns that I encountered (it turns out that you attract some weirdos when you offer free web chats to random people on the internet!), I have changed what I offer. Now my referrals can watch the webinars "on-demand" and also can send me a link to a video of their teaching. I reply with feedback.
Kristina Garcia Very understandable! How can I get access to your recorded webinars? I think your advice is gold dust for anyone who wants to improve their online teaching skills. I guess it’s only for ppl who have actively applied to VIPKid using your referral code?
Kristina you so amazing and spirit led!.. have rescheduled mocks couple of times now...still so nervous and a perfectionist @ the same time. Have seen some videos but have you got any videos on A&B as well and any additional tips.. Many thanks
Hi there, Bee! Your comment gave me chills...yes, I am certainly "spirit led" 🙏 Being nervous means that you care...and He cares for you! I don't currently have videos on A&B....I was working on videos and got a tip that VIPKid was soon going to change the lessons, so I focused my efforts elsewhere. Here's a video with some tips for calming those nerves before your mock class! ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-1yQve3AvtyU.html Take care, Bee!
Hahaha!!! Maybe my version of tough love is a little more on the "love" side of things. I've found that people tend to be very sensitive during the mock classes. 😜
A good teacher does not put down the aspiring student who is trying. I am about to become a tefl teacher and when I do I really think I’ll sign up if I use vipkid.
Hello Kristina, I really like your style. I have watched many videos and when I first started teaching I made the mistake of just letting the first teacher at VIPkid on youtube let me use her as a referral. As soon as I referred her she never responded to any of my emails after! Made me mad.
Hi, Jenny! Thanks so much! That's definitely disappointing. I'm not sure which teacher you went with but I'm happy to know that my videos have helped you! Thank you for being here!!
I'll go first. I was a Perfectionistic Pat! I really wanted to "get it right," right away. I overcame that mindset by remembering that practice makes performance!
I AM a Perfectionist Pat. A friend of mine had to do the Mock three times. So I got very worried. He has been teaching for 20+ years. I bought tons of props and watched tons of videos. On the one hand they helped me with TPR, synthetic phonics, prop usage etc. BUT, they also scared the bejezus out of me because I saw lots of people post videos on how they did not get hired, or even fired. I must say I needed all of the supplementary youtube training. Finally my boyfriend had to push me into the pool. He nagged every day " So what's up with VIP?". " I am working on it" I would tell him. I was TERRIFIED. Yes the MOCK was EXTREMELY stressful. I have been teaching for two decades also. I prepared for MONTHS. I even made my own Dino hand puppet.
@@rosegarcia2371, I love seeing your heartfelt comments on my channel! I'm so happy for you that you persevered...and your VIPKid students are thankful for your effort, too! It's so easy for us to overthink things and want to be perfect. It's a fruitless journey until we accept that we can continue learning! Thanks for sharing your story with us, Rose...and for bringing me along for the ride! Hugs!!
Kristina, congratulations for the success. I would like to comment on an experience with the mock lesson and hope you advise me on who to contact at vipkid to address the issue. On January 3 I did Mock 5 getting another invitation. I don't contend that there is room for improvement. What I need advise about is in regard to the mentor comments. The mentor seems to have confused (if this is possible) me with someone else. Her statements contradict evidence shown in the recording which is given to us once the results are emailed. For example she states "You did not use props in the lesson" and the video showing that I used props in most slides is there. I quote again when she writes "To increase the rapport, ensure you welcome the student to class with a self introduction and by asking their name." Wow, Kristina, the evidence is right there in the video. I do introduce myself and I do ask the student's name" The thing is that the video provided after the mock results are given, DOES MUTE what the mentor/student says to the applicant, but I know the company has to have the entire dialogue. Don't get me wrong. If they believe I need to do another mock,,that is fine with me...but what is disturbing is that the mentor's comments after the mock contradict not only the video itself but the mentor's comments during the mock class. I recall her asking something like 'so, what do you think you did better this time' to what I answered " I paid close attention to the response of the student for grammar errors and complete sentences" and Kristina, this is what I recall her saying 'Yes, you caught everyone of them.' I showed the video of the mock and the observations of what the mentor wrote under "what I can improve" and the third parties watching agree about the discrepancies but wonder if CALLING ON THIS MISTAKE will take me anywhere. Kristina, I am not disputing having to retake it but I believe ERR IS HUMAN and the mentor may have erred. So, who do I speak with or who do I mail this request for review.? The objective is to avoid this happening and to be informed on how to correct this from happening over again to other applicants.
Hi, Lula! Thanks for visiting my channel. I'm sorry to hear about what happened--I can see why you're frustrated! I suggest sending an email to the hiring team: Teachvip@vipkid.com.cn. If your mentor had various mock classes that day, I suppose it's possible that the mentor could have submitted the wrong feedback for you...VIPKid's hiring team should be able to help!
Hello there! I got it from the automotive section of Walmart. People have also told me that they found oil drip pans like mine at auto repair stores like Advance Auto Parts!
Oh, I so needed this after 2 mock classes. Thank you! Nervous Nicky/Apathetic Alex type here and I'm concerned that I might be on my last chance. Also, I did have to reschedule a couple of times with a day's notice (FWIW) so I hope that doesn't constitute abuse. Can you "flunk" out of VIPKid and run out of mock class opportunities?
Hey there, John! I'm happy to hear that the video was helpful to you! If you have too many last-minute reschedules, it could harm your chances...but there's pretty much always a work-around!
Question...When I go to My Account to add referral code, I do not see a place to add it. I see "teacher practice", "change password", "contract", and "log out". Am I missing something? Help is appreciated. Thanks in advance.
Hi, Sharon! How far along are you in the hiring process? I'm guessing you're at the mock certification stage since you watched this video. If you're not seeing the option to add a referral code, it could be because you followed a job site when applying to VIPKid. The job sites automatically nix the "referring teacher" field. When this happens, VIPKid advises people to reapply with a new email address. Please let me know if you choose to do this and I'll be so happy to help you get hired! Thanks, Sharon! -Tina (TeacherTinaVIPKID@gmail.com)
I agree, mock classes are great practice! I wish VIPKID did Gogokid's system, where your first class is a full class, but instead of a student, you are teaching a mentor.
This video was very helpful, thank you! I identify most with Nervous Nicky with a little bit of Skilled Sam thrown in there. I would love to join a coaching session, however, it has been difficult to find an open time to do so. Do they fill up pretty quickly?
Hey, Amy! Thank you for your kind words. I'm happy to hear that it was helpful! Yes, the coaching sessions have been filling up super fast. The good news is that they're not mandatory! I suggest going ahead and doing your mock class, getting feedback, and adjusting your approach! Also be sure to reach out to your referring teacher for support, too!
your background looks amazing! I saw a video within the portal. A teacher, Leo had a screen of himself and his name that the student could see before class. what is that? how do I do that?
Hi there, @BB P! Thanks so much for your kind comment! It sounds like he probably used a computer program such as ManyCam or CamTwist (there's also a way to upload a slide onto the portal, but VIPKid doesn't prefer it).
Help! I can't pass the smart demo lesson and I don't know why. I'm focusing on the lesson's objective, tpr, repetition, modeling, and speaking speed. - Jenny
Yari, you've got this!! Most of the VIPKid teachers I've helped to get hired (you can check out a few here: www.yourvipkidjourney.com/join-our-community) wish they hadn't waited so long...myself included! Feel free to join our Hiring Support community on Facebook and you'll see that there are many Nervous Nickys doing a great job in the hiring process right now! bit.ly/YourVIPKidJourney Hope to see you there, Yari! 😁
Hi, Isabelle! 😁 Thanks so much for joining us for the live premiere of this video! You're a Perfectionistic Pat, too...must be why we get along so well! Ha! So happy to hear that you enjoyed the video.😘
What happens when they don't like your set up but its something that can't really be changed? I dont have a lot of extra money to get a better camera, headset, background stuff, props, etc.
Many of my referrals have borrowed items to create their classrooms for the hiring process! I personally used the Dollar Tree for nearly everything when I was a new teacher. Your background doesn't need to be flashy or expensive; just neat, colorful, and inviting! As for the camera, as long as you're pretty clear, you should be fine...and good headsets have gotten pretty inexpensive and you can get away with earbuds with an inline microphone for the hiring process!
I meant that the mock class mentors are paid....VIPKid pays them to be with the candidates, so the company loses money when candidates fail to show up for a scheduled mock class. I apologize for the confusion!
Hi, Tia! Wonderful! You can try to add it by logging in on your VIPKid account on the computer, going to "my account" in the top right, and clicking "add referral code." Then copy + paste my code: KRIST0230. Be very careful with the digits! If this doesn't work, send an email to Teachvip@vipkid.com.cn to request that they manually add it. (and copy me: TeacherTinaVIPKID@gmail.com)..and hopefully they can do it! 👍
Hi, Tiffany! VIPKid is typically understanding. I suggest sending the hiring team and email (Teachvip@vipkid.com.cn) stating why you would like an extension and when you plan to schedule the mock class. I also suggest copying (cc) your referring teacher on that email to keep him/her in the loop. When one of my referrals asks for an extension and copies me on it, I "reply all" to the company to try to expedite it. So if you have a referring teacher, I recommend asking him/her to do that...and if you don't yet have a referring teacher, feel free to add my code (copy + paste KRIST0230 into your account) and then copy me on your email: TeacherTinaVIPKID@gmail.com. I'd love to help you get hired and be successful as a VIPKid teacher! Wishing you all the best, Tiffany!! Thanks for being here 😊
@@KristinaGarcia I didn't realize this had to be done in 3 days or that I had to notify them if I needed to reschedule. Now I'm rescheduled tonight but it's been 2 weeks since my first one because I work a full time regular job, have two kids and was ill. I'm not even sure I should bother now based on what you are saying. I had to reschedule multiple times.
@@kathleenbarney3930 The fact that you were able to reschedule it this last time makes it sound like you're account is still a-ok (you probably rescheduled far enough in advance). If you have a referring teacher, I encourage you to ask him/her to look you up in the Referral Tracker for updates on your status. If you don't yet have a referring teacher, you're welcome to add my code (log in on a computer, go to "my account" then "add referral code" and copy + paste: KRIST0230). I'll be happy to help you!
@@Nicole-ss8jj Currently, as long as you do not abuse the scheduling (fail to show up, cancel too often or too soon beforehand) and you're a fluent English speaker, you should get unlimited attempts.
It's up to you, my dear! It sounds like a lighter colored background would probably encourage a better contrast, but it's up to you! I suggest checking how different colors look behind you on a webcam (go to different walls, have someone hold up different colored towels/shirts.) See what looks good to you! Thanks for being here 😊 I'd love to know what color you decide!
This video was needed! Thank you :) When I was going through the hiring process, I was a Nervous Nicky but I practiced so much that I passed my first mock.
@@KristinaGarcia I would videotape myself doing the mock lesson and would correct myself when I saw I dropped my smile, lacked TPR or did not use some of my props, all while timing myself. It helped me gain confidence!
Hi, Blanca! I've changed my lighting over time but I actually have a classroom setup video that may interest you! bit.ly/TinaClassroom Thank you for being here, Blanca!!
@@KristinaGarcia I got it Tina! FINALLY!! Thanks so much. You are an incredible asset to everything you do. You have been destined for good things lady. Be patient because your life will offer something very special to someone in great need. I loved meeting you and wish the best for you.
@@blancabowman6055 that's great to hear! Thanks for following up with a happy update. Wow--I really appreciate your comment! I hope you have a wonderful weekend, Blanca!
Hello from one Tina to another! I've discussed this concern with Mock Class Mentors. From what I understand, they've not received official guidance from VIPKid about whether this is acceptable, but the MCMs I talked to said that if you explain your situation (many people can't get their hands on a headset right now), you should be ok!
🙂 Hi Tina! Your videos have been super helpful and quite inspiring too for a new teacher! Thank you 🙏🏾 for your quick response! This helped me big time! Am going in for my mock class in half an hour!
It went really well. I didn’t pass my first mock but passed the 2nd one! Am actually looking foward to teaching! Am sure many teachers can say so! You positivity and enthusiasm says it all. Thanks Tina. Ps: I used marbles too as my reward system and the mentor loved that! 😊💚
@@tinaford6619 WAY TO GO, Tina!!!! You go, girl! So happy to hear that you're excited to start teaching. The marbles are so simple that they work! Thanks for your kind words. Take care, Tina!
Hi, Carol! I suppose you could relate to one of these four "types" of people for the live demo...but the focus of this video is the mock classes. The mock classes come after passing the live demo/interview stage. Did I answer your question, Carol?
As long as you meet the requirements to be a VIPKid teacher, you will get unlimited attempts at the mock class. This is true even if you still need lots of work with TPR, prop usage, etc....all of the skills that fall under the umbrella of your performance!
Sorry for the delay--I had issues accessing RU-vid while I was in China last week! I'm guessing that my reply is too late, but you can typically add a referral code by logging into your VIPKid account on the computer, going to "My Account" then "add referral code." Hope these tips help or that you found it!! 👍
@@KristinaGarcia Thank you. I had apparently clicked on a referral link when I applied. I don't even know what who that belonged to. Your videos are very helpful, and I thank you.
@@joannemepham29 Bummer...that's ok! Thank you for trying. I'm sorry that I'm not able to help you as your referring teacher. What's the name there? I may be able to direct you to that person!
Hey, Pamela! As long as you speak English with grammatical fluency and a neutral US/Canadian accent (and you meet those other requirements), you should be fine! The main thing is simply having legal eligibility to work in the US/Canada; VIPKid prefers teachers who have experience in the US/Canadian school systems!
@@KristinaGarcia thank for your answer Tina!! You are great!!! I live in Ecuador but I'm fluent and I learn easily :'( so do you think I won't be able to work there? I need the job
@@pamelatinajero1278 Hey, Pamela! Unfortunately, those are the rules for VIPKid. I encourage you to look for other online teaching opportunities! I can tell that you're passionate and students will be happy to have you as their teacher!
@Kristina Garcia thank you for your kind words Tina!! You are so nice!! If you know about any other opportunity working as an online English teacher, please let me know! Blessings!!!
Hi Kristina, I was invited to do an interview express in January 2019 and I never did get that accomplished. I had Patsy Ann Rivera as a referral and I decided to wait until I could get my classroom to what I thought would be fun, and in the time between January and now have been TEFL Certified. I have emailed Patsy but she has never responded. Would you be willing to help me through this process. I do want to quit the school district and access my retirement and do this on a more full time basis. What are your thoughts?
The reality is, no matter who you are or how well you did, you will need to do another mock class. It's just the VIPKID way, make you do two of everything. I had to do 2 interviews, 2 mock classes for level 2-3 and 2 mock classes for levels 4-5. You're not getting paid for this so VIPKID just wants you to keep practicing before you sign the contract and start teaching.
I'm an MCM and have had applicants pass on the first try. Some really can do it. Even though they have enough points to pass and won't have to do a second mock, I think they should automatically have to do at least two mocks to better prepare them for the VIPKid online classroom.
As Michelle said, it's possible to pass the first time...but I agree that it's very advantageous to a new teacher to get at least two mock classes! VIPKid wants to be sure teachers are as ready as possible!
I was feeling pretty discouraged. I've taken 2 mock classes, which is fine. But what was frustrating was the first one, my mentor teacher mentioned I took too much time on slides (I didn't finish the slides). Then my second I tried really hard to finish all the slides, and the mentor teacher said I rushed through it. I'm not sure how to balance it...do I need to finish all the slides in the mock class?
Hey, Clarissa! Thanks for being here. Finishing all of the slides for the mock class isn't mandatory for passing, no. But keep in mind that having a lot left to cover could be indicative of pacing issues that you could continue to work on. 😊 Sometimes when applicants go too slowly, it's because of overusing incidental language, not adjusting properly for the student, etc. And sometimes applicants can overcompensate and rush in another mock class. Remember that the mock classes are tools for helping you to be ready for a real student! So it's better to get a feel for the pacing now than when you've got a paying customer across the screen from you! Best wishes!!
Hi there, Andrea! Thank you in advance. I really look forward to getting to know you and watching you become a VIPKid teacher! Hope you can join us in our Live Coaching Session tonight, too! More info here: www.yourvipkidjourney.com/free-coaching Excited to help you, Andrea!!
Hello there!! That's a great question. I don't want to lead you astray in case VIPKid has recently changed what they accept, so please contact VIPKid to ask! Here's their email address: Teachvip@vipkid.com.cn
So if you don’t pass it the first time then you can try it again? I was so worried that if I didn’t do well with the demo class that it would all be over and I wouldn’t get another chance.
As long as you show up for it and you were an appropriate candidate (for example, you're fluent in English) then yes...you'll be invited to do another mock!
Kristina Garcia oh that makes me feel so much better! Thank you! Yes, fluent English speaker with 2 bachelor degrees and experience with teaching as an assistant in an undergrad classroom. Stay at home mom right now and just trying to work from home
