I noticed early on that Naruto had a talent in espionage techniques. In the 1st few episodes alone, he snuck up on Sasuke, subdued him, transformed into Sasuke/copied his personality well enough to fool ino, shikamaru, choji, and Sakura. The only reason the jutsu failed, was because he had diarrhea.

Dude you never even mention that time this jutsu was used effectively with Naruto and Sasuke against Zabuza. That was the best use case of transformation jutsu in the entire franchise at a genin to chunin level or more. Naruto effectively turned his failed test jutsu to an absolute perfection and just as intended to, to distract and confuse an enemy.

Fun fact: in the first fight against zabuza momochi, naruto tranformed into a big, foldable shuriken that sasuke threw to fool zabuza. Ya boi showing skills earlier than most thought.

It's crazy how in their fight against Momoshiki, Sasuke had transformed himself into a Rasenshuriken, which was being held by Naruto and he had also transformed himself into a shuriken

Kishimoto had to minimise Naruto using Transformation because it's basically his instant win tactic. Seriously, every time Naruto uses Transformation he out plays and gets the edge over and an enemy that is overpowering him.

Using Enma as an example may not be a great idea. Assuming the toad jutsu and monkey jutsu is similar, Enma's transformation may be sage jutsu and wouldn't work for most people that can't use sage jutsu.

And Naruto was a master at transformation before he was even a Genin! And as a brand new Genin he used the hardest variation to save Kakashi from Zabuza which is how Demon Wind Shurikin: Windmill of Shadows was born

Sensory types can detect transformation jutsu and you wouldn't even have to be a strong sensory type to find someone transformed

Or...the transformation technique is used more often. It just happens to be a precursor to many of the body modification techniques seen used in the show (Man Beast Clone, Hardening Techniques, etc.). It might be, or rather, it most likely is a basic Yang Release technique that anyone can learn, similar to how everyone in the Shinobi Alliance could use the basic Earth shield, even if they don't have an affinity to Earth Release.

I would guess depletion depends on what you transform into, and since Tsunade is herself, changing into her younger form is pretty easy and not very depletive

Any sensor ninja with any training can always find transformed people. They don’t need specific eyes any one who can sense chakra can find them. So it is useless against large gatherings of ninjas because someone could senses them. I assume increase mass also increases chakra consumption. Same with becoming inorganic like what monkey king enma did. Every one is not coated in metal because it’s difficult to do because it’s inorganic and has a high chakra cost. We don’t know the chakra pool of the monkey king.

Couldn't transformation also be used as a form of temp healing if you lost a limb? While you were transformed, you could just turn into yourself with all your body parts.

Transformation technique really should have been used more often and shown more respect, especially the sexy jutsu. It is probably the most harped on technique, both in and out of univers, but is extremely useful. The jutsu exploits a hard wire weakness in men, which make up about 2/3 of the military and Nobels. Men are less gaurded around attractive women, especially in CERTAIN situations, and this has been used by female spies since before government was even a thing. If these were real ninjas it would be a celebrated technique.

Not gonna lie when Naruto used his clones to turn into a bunch of rocks, that was one of the most bad ass moments in Naruto

In theory you should be able to combine transformation jutsu with your elemental afinity! So for example. Sombody stabs Kakashi, but at the moment of impact he turns into lightning, this would be a badass counter attack and incredible defense early on at least.

Its actually a key reason why sensory types are crucial for 4 man teams, to be able to track a ninja if he or she transforms.

I feel like this is so underrated, underused and underestimated. Like so many things could’ve been prevented and the plot twists and misunderstandings would’ve been gold. *chefs kiss* 😚 🤌🏾

Something else I think worth mentioning is that Naruto actually transformed into a Rasenshuriken. And fooled even the Rinnegan with his transformation. That is how powerful it is.

I would assume the limitation is chakra, as opposed to law of equal exchange or conservation of mass etc. Everything in Naruto generally comes back to chakra, so the question would be: is Enma using his own chakra to perform these Jutsu, or is he summoned with a reservoir of chakra to be filled by Hiruzen? I’m thinking about how Katsuyu is only ever summoned at certain fractions of her full self… this could be a similar situation for Enma given that it’d be completely absurd if he could just extend his transformation forever. I also feel like all Clone jutsu are basically more advanced transformation jutsu. Like Kakashi using wood clones or mud clones is an actual transformation Jutsu, right? The only difference is that it’s a clone and poofs upon taking damage.

Monkey King Enma might be using nature energy,or he might have a chakra reserve way higher than normal humans Or might have knowledge about these jutsu no one else has,i mean he's the summoning of hiruzen, wouldn't be much of a shock

Loved the video, and agree that the Transformation Jutsu is potentially broken and should be used more. Minor critique, however: Conservation of Mass and Energy is still a thing. You are just missing the other half 'and Energy'. You could turn yourself into a giant with the Transformation Jutsu but it would cost more Chakra or Energy. Naruto and King Enma can do crazy shit because one is the Uzumaki Jinchuriki of the Nine-Tails and the other is a Boss level Summon Beast and both have absolutely stupid levels of chakra. Chouji's clan specializes in rapidly converting their body fat into usable energy/chakra allowing them to pull off the crazy Giant Form. Also, I am pretty sure that a person like Kiba can mold his buddy Akumaru's chakra for him or at least weave the signs for him- kinda like that one scene in Kakashi vs Obito or Naruto vs Sasuke where they formed seals with the other's hand- so I think a dog probably couldn't use the Transformation Jutsu by himself. Also a ton of smaller ninja could theoretically transform into a giant but it would be very difficult to maintain as the ninja would need to be in perfect sync. Basically it comes down, less to a matter if you can, and more a matter of 'why would you'?

easy workaround for the hundred kunai idea is shadow clone jutsu and then transformation jutsu since naruto could transform clones as well

i feel a lot of these applications are actually just unique jutsu as an example Enma is definitely using some transformation unique to him alone. its also a reference to son wukong having the same ability. and I always thought of transformations as basically a cloth you have on you to make you look like something. it does not make you sharp and or stronger/harder. it would also makes sense that the normal transformation gets interrupted basically like a normal shadow clone as soon as it gets damaged. i expect to counteract these weaknesses there are transformation specialists like the Inusuka and Akamichis that has learned specific properties that make their transformations unik and better in specific ways like size keeping mass and or fusing with your dogs not messing things up I also think every OP thing show with the transformation are most likely chakra limited so only with insane amounts of chakra like naruto has, is enough to make the more outlandish effects works. i also think of naruto as having an innate affinity for transformations specifically because of the nine tails that is a shapechanger in myth. I will say tho even with this in mind the jutsu is still OP and just the ability to change size and or shape for a second is already sudu Kamui level dodging if you can use it without seals that is. so still pretty badly designed from a storytelling perspective in my opnion.

I've Always wondered this from the first time they showed it. And at least for recon missions or infiltration usages. So far only the bad guys have used it that way to my knowledge. And I'm guessing for everyone not being able to do or use jutsus, (claw chick.. technique) keke-genki (spelling idk) specifics?! Or writing more so lol. But great point!!

The lack of the conservation of mass makes some sense given chakra seems to be both physical and not physical at the same time. So I assume they can substitute the physical mass with their chakra so I imagine the larger the transformation the more chakra you would need to pull it off

I feel like it would use up too much chakra for someone to continuously turn body parts into shields and swords vs just using shields and swords. Plus most of the rly crazy transformations are done by ppl with insane chakra pools something not every ninja has

You could have an elite squad combined together into one individual to go undercover. And if one of those individuals has a large amount of chakra or a way to quickly gather chakra and another has chakra manipulation techniques, regardless if they’re impersonating an individual or not, they could have a better shot at getting multiple ninja into a single village. Like a Trojan horse.

You forget to put into consideration that every ninjutsu is a specialty. Otherwise every ninja/shinobi just use the same ninjutsu. That means that a ninjutsu must be mastered.

I would assume because adamantite is that rare shinobi don't have access to it. To transform you need to be familiar with the substance so since they can go their entire lives never touching it they can't exactly turn into it
