Great video, agree with most of it. I’d like to add that non shadows can be obtained as a lucky which reduces the stardust cost by 50%. So in that case a lvl 50 lucky costs less than a lvl 40 shadow, aside from XL candy
Agreed and that is a good point and something to keep in mind when comparing several pokemon you want to invest in. But it isn't the norm to have lucky of everything and for alot of players it isn't the stardust but the candy and candy xl it takes. He just used the lower stardust needed as an example along side no el candy cost. Good point to bring up though, especially for those newer players.
@@Pixelkip brandon just showed that a LVL 40 0% IV shadow pokemon is stronger than its LVL 50 100% IV non-shadow counterpart, so how would the Hundo be slighty better in this scenario? Especially when it's such a meta relevant pokemon like Mamoswine, you would never want to purify in this case, unless you really want the hundo for collection purposes/hundo dex and don't really care too much about raiding. I've purified some pokemon into hundos, but they were a raticate, a crobat, an alolan dugtrio and a camerupt (none are too relevant as shadows, plus camerupt has a future mega)

Great video. This is helpful because with the raiding changes it has been more difficult for me to find a group and get raids done. That made me shift my dust focus to building level 40/50 raid pokemon instead of PVP pokemon. The other video where you raided with a maxed level 50 0/0/0 shadow ttar vs a 15/15/15 level 50 ttar was also a very clear example of the difference shadows make.
If you are really budget, just get a minimum of 3 lucky of the best POKEMON per type (metagross, mamoswine, tyranitar/rampardos, Dragonite/Salamance, swampert, gardevoir etc.) and power them up to level 30. You will have enough combat power for 5 star raids with 5 friends, trust me. If you are try hard enough to try and solo, duo trio 5 star raids, don’t bother and invest because then it will make a difference.
This is definitely true I got 2 Lucky Legacy Hydriegons 50 maxed and ready to go against Psychic/Ghost type legendaries only cost me nearly 600K rather than having only 1 regular Hydreigon with 600K dust (Both have the same IVs of 13,13,13)
If you’re REALLY on a budget just farm the Meltan box and make a team of 6 MelMetal 😉. That’s what I did before I had a solid team and I just changed the moves to match the weakness of whatever raids I did until I got some other Pokémon 😆.
The cost of shadow power up and the elite needed to remove frustration is just way to high for F2P very sad. Also in tier list no shadow Snorlax/Ninetails or Sandslash when all good!
This is very unlikely to ever happen, because it doesn't make sense lore wise. Shadow Pokemon have a sealed heart so that they become emotionless battle machines. Meanwhile a Mega Evolution requires a strong bond between trainer and Pokemon.
moveset an type matters, but in basic math, the 20% for 20% is very stong on Attack heavy pokemon with low def, best exsampel is sharpedo with 218att but only 82 def, so you get 43.6 att but lose 16.4 deff. Deoxys Attack form with 414 att but only 46 deff, is probably the pokemon that gets the biggest payout in stats when it gets its shadow form.
A thing to mention: beating a raid boss is a challenge only because of the clock. Imaging having unlimited time, you probably could solo them all. Shadows are way faster! Faster in attack and faster in fainting, but it saves you precious time.
Super interesting. I have no doubts about powering up my shiny shadows, even though they might not have optimal IVs. They're still great. Regards from Peru!
Thanks to this video I powered up to level 40: 1. a 96% IV Shadow Salamence (dragon tail + outrage) 2. a 96% IV Shadow Dragonite (dragon tail + outrage) 3. a 78% IV Shadow Garchomp (dragon tail + earth power + outrage) I was able to duo Giratina Origin with the only one friend I have nearby. BTW, he powered up a 98% IV Shadow Tyratinar. In my city there is not a lot of PoGO players. Shadow Pokemon are a force to be reckoned with.
Brandon, I have a Shadow Electivire with 15 attack, 15 defense, and 14 hp. Should I prioritize powering it up to level 40, or are there other Pokemon that should be powered up first? For additional context, I only have 564k stardust and little luck with pvp. Thanks!
just collect 5 best of each meta pokemon like 5 metagross 5 salamence 5 swamperts keep on evolving when necessary esp.during comm classic dont power up until you meet your standard ivs of each..
Great timing with this video got shadow regice today was away from the game for a few years really regretting stopping now but glad I saw this thinking what to do with him only got a few legendarys anyways so definitely keeping him shadow form

WAIT, a 15,15 and 8 beldum is good? I got two like that with the hp so low but attack/def max. Thought it wouldn't work and would die quickly not lasting long in battle?
When I first started playing i purified my shadow Mewtwo. :(. Saved 3 radars for 2 years waiting for its return. On the third encounter got a 96%!! On exactly my 2 year pogo anniversary. Had enough xl saved to 50 it and did so immediately. 😈❤️
I'm currently very close to getting enough candy to fully Evolve my Hundo Dragonair to Dragonite. Should I then instead evolve my shadow dragonair with poor iv's instead of my Hundo Dragonair?
Depends what you want to use it for! If it's going to be a raid attacker, yes - go for the shadow. But as Brandon says in the video, the shadow only needs to be L40 as it's cheaper and doesn't use XL The hundo I'd say is always worth taking to fifty at least once, plus it is very useable in PvP
The Mega Metagross would still have a higher tdo and a slightly higher overall number when you multiply the DPS times tdo it would be close to the same comparison between shadow Salamence and Mega Salamence both are very close overall but mega is only very slightly higher in its overall number with the shadow being real close as it does have a higher DPS than the mega but the mega has a higher tdo and they both do almost the same with the mega only being slightly better. I do have several shadow Metagross that I plan to power up to atleast lvl 40. I also have a normal Metagross that is a 15, 15, 14 a 98% having a small difference from a Hundo however I really want a Hundo so I'm going to wait and work on my shadows in the main time and wait from now till the time Mega Metagross debuts to see if I can get a Hundo normal one sometimes in between. If I do I definitely want to max out atleast one normal Metagross for the Mega as the mega is going to still be really cool to use along with the shadows. So it would hurt to power up and Mac atleast one of your best Metagross for the mega and for Master league
TLDW: shadow pokemon are cheaper for a better pokemon, dont purify them unless you have a hundo for a very powerful mega BUT shadows are not necessary in large raid parties, lets look at shadow weavile: shadow weavile has an amazing dps and an average tdo, regular weavile has lower dps BUT the EXACT SAME tdo, shadows are more useful in smaller raid parties because they deal their TDO alot faster,

Try to go for the hundo, it's not worth level 50ing an apex lugia of those IV's. Lugia is a bad attacker and is only good in Master League PVP, so you should try to focus on getting a hundo or at very least, a 15/15/14. Also if you can try to do lucky trades and you can save yourself a lot of dust if you end up getting a good lucky.
I have to add a comment for once .. you start using xl candy's at level 30 not level 40 that's 10 levels of difference.... That's a lot more star dust to figure into your comparison... I'm level 36 and a pokemon can not exceed your level and my pokemon I mainly power up for raids I been using xl candies for...
Here is the problem with your argument. You put the Metagrosses up against a Pokemon to which they already have an advantage. Try putting them up against, oh, I do not know, a Blaziken. If you already have an advantage over an opponent, it does not matter if you win a second or two faster. But, if you are at a disadvantage, you want to stay in the game long enough to get off as many shots as possible. Shadows are a scam. Like, yeah, if you get a hundo or a 0-15-15, then go ahead and power it up. Otherwise, why invest only to run into a better one later?
alot of shadows are going to fall flat, when all megas are released, like metagross, and mewtwo forms.. so not really worth the investment.. like mega salamence already way better than shadow.
10:36 Just wanted to mention that Pokebattler doesn't consider the mega/primal boosts and even if mega metagross doesn't have the same DPS as tortured, I mean, shadow metagross, it provides up to 30% damage boost to other players' pokemon and since it is more bulky than shadow it can share mega boost for long and have a better TDO. 13:51 Why spend so much time and resource when the time difference is barely visible? Also, you can catch a level 35 beldum in the wild and lucky trade it with your friend and powering that up is way cheaper than powering up a shadow metagross.
For your second part, lemme say something Shadows are very expensive and are most of the time not recommended for new players. Also, in big cities, you don’t even need them for raids because of how many people are in the raid. However, shadows are also the only reason some solo/duo legendary raid are possible, making them priorities for people who wants to challenge themselves
Shadow pokemon belongs to the Team Rocket. Trainers are supposed to fight the team rocket to save the pokemon from darkness. Purified pokemon should have better stats than shadow in a logic. I think it is "sad" to have to use shadow pokemon.. 100%, best buddy and purified pokemon should be stronger
I 100% agree. I still don't understand why Niantic forgets that Team Rocket is a terrorist organisation from the Pokemon World. They are responsible for so many international incidents where Pokemon were used for nefarious purposes. And yet top influencers like Brandon Tan want people to support this organization. I'd even pay 1,000 coins (worth 20 days' worth of gym coins) to get a purified bonus so that our purified Pokemon (who aren't frustrated anymore) do more damage to these useless shadow Pokemon. They are useless because as a Hindu I grew up listening to holy tests where the good always won over evil. Yet, team rocket has been winning in the world of pokemon go for the past few YEARS. #SaveShadowPokemon #PurifyShadowPokemon
Yeah i agree he is amazing i was so happy when i got my first shundo yday a shadow larvitar shundo and then i see him and i am so impressed how much work it takes to be like him
