I have about 5 episodes left on “Vikings” and will then watch the first season of “Valhalla”. I also plan on diving into “The Last Kingdom” as I’ve heard good things.
The Last Kingdom is Amazing. Historically speaking, it aligns with Vikings when the story starts around the time the Sons of Ragnar took England with the Great Heathen Army.
If any of Y'all like Vikings, I highly recommend checking out the anime and manga Vinland Saga. It takes place during the life of Cnut. While it's definitely not 100% historically accurate, the author takes great pride in representing the time period.
Yes, absolutely agreed, Vinland Saga is a brilliant anime and manga based on Vikings. I'd say it's definitely pretty great in its own ways of representing Vikings and the time period. The Author definitely takes pride in his representation of the time period while being very passionate about the story, characters and history. Vinland Saga is amazing and There is alot of other great historical anime and manga that need recognition as well. i also love watching/reading great Historical media in general.
As a Norwegian { born in Australia 🇦🇺 } I agree. Although , I would have liked to hear more about what was going on in Norway/Scandinavia within the overall timeline of this video . ♑️✍️❤️🔥🇳🇴
@@Friendship1nmillion mainly clans against clans, conspiracy against each other and raiding... If you read the sagas they are quite bloody and gory.... One chieftain loved his wife (that he stole), so much that he slept with her dead body and guarded her corpse all day for a year, until his men drugged him to give her a burial and kill his usurper. They buried her when he was out of it, the chieftain killed the man who buried her and then killed his usurper. The other ones are even more gory....
My God i can't remember even a single name. No doubt Vikings were great warriors who fought and conquered vast territories. I loved their series Vikings. Looking forward to Vikings Valhalla.
Then you obviously haven't watched the "Ways Medieval Armor Was More Dangerous Than Wearing Nothing" that they made and how they describe medieval armor was worse then wearing nothing. I mean just look at the comments. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-M6gria4X76k.html
@@talkswithtomas3966 ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-oB4sIeFsvTQ.html If you don't really know why the video was so bad here's a dude that explains it. For the next time maybe take the channel "Weird History" with a pinch of salt I'm not saying all their videos are bad but like cmon. For a history nerd like me this is just insulting. If you screwed up a video this much then the rest of the channel maybe isn't as good as you would think. But who knows maybe they have improved their research, maybe they have learned from their mistakes, and maybe this was just a one time mistake. Who knows anymore.
I like how back in these days of hanging or a pulling of bodies apart it's time for picnic, I know there wasn't any in this story, and I often wonder did the guy pulling the guillotine cord or the one wielding the ax, go into counseling or just fade away with all that he was guilty for? As for Valhalla I've never heard of it.
I literally just watched the first episode a few minutes ago. Very timely! I hope the Vikings Valhalla stick a little bit more to history unlike the far deviation Vikings did in the later seasons
@@mikatu I mean a little deviation is fine but when Alfred is king while Aethelred is still alive or that Bjorn Ironside has an affair with Aelswith or let Ivar be actually a cripple who kills his brother Sigurd (who's one of the better known "sons" of Ragnar btw) then that's just dumb. I like some liberties here and there but if you're gonna make a "historical drama" at least have a good semblance with how it was or else just add aliens and cowboys in it too.
@@JarlTryggve Yikesss. Yeah I started watching it and I didn't really have high expectations. I might not just watch it altogether after what you said. Vikings season 5 was just too painful to watch too. It's a shame because season 1-4 was awesome. At least The Last Kingdom was totally spectacular so it makes up for it I guess
Lol, yeah, not gonna happen being that they already want to play this ridiculous "diversity" game for the sake of pathetic virtue signaling. It's also on Netflix, not the History channel so that's just going to give them more leeway to completely fabricate and change History for the sake of more virtue signaling. I saw the first episode and was already irritated by the History changes that I haven't watched the rest since.

Love for you to do a Viking video about them owning slaves and Everything to do with it. Apparently , those slaves were called " Throalls " hence the term " to be enthralled by someone " . ♑️✍️🇦🇺🇳🇴
we have a place called Drellborg in our parish but like other Drelleborgs it's referring to warriors that aren't operating by their own free will but on command of the king so Drell/Trell/"Throall" can refer generally to people working for someone else the modern term "slave" comes from that time - before that many slavs were enslaved, those people were called latin SERVI
Loved the Vikings Valhalla series, and then, I got into writing my own Viking Action stories for Kindle and posting audio and image teasers to each story on my RU-vid page.
freydis actually killed her brothers, most likely framed to take power with the help of her powerful husband. the 5 women mentioned she orderd killed but the men refused to kill unarmed women, or so it is said. so she asked for an axe and killed them herself
I've studied this stuff for years and a lot of these ideas are new to me, but the format of the video is really confusing, it feels like it's commenting on several different books very quickly.
I don't think Vinland is in Canada. I recall hearing something about butternuts not growing further north than New England. Then there's the stone found at Nomans land, at the western tip of Martha's Vineyard. It has Leif's name and is dated MI the year 1001.
i like the treatment of these characters on VINLAND SAGA, checked all these vikings media for the manga, i love comparing the fiction to actual history
According to legend. After the battle Tore Hund who slayed the king went back to field a tended to the king's dead body and buried him. Tore Hund had hurt his hand but when he was done tending to the dead king his wound had healed. Later, when Nidarosdomen (the first cathedral in Norway)was build Olav was exhumed and moved to the cathedral. The sage tells us that his body was intact and even had longer hair and nails than before. Also, Magnus den Gode went ona regular basis to his father's shrine and claimed he groomed the fallen king.
Great shows for sure!!! That said, none of them are very close to historically accurate. I don’t mean little things either. Vikings: Ragnar and Rollo lived nearly 200 years apart. Last Kingdom: nearly everything to do with the Mercians. Especially Aethelred. It puzzles me why film studios butcher the actual history for added drama. The real stories are actually more amazing than the shows. Please don’t think I’m being prudish about it though. Their all amazing shows with a good deal of true history.
I think half of the reason they butcher it is so their show/movie whatever doesn't become easily predictable. Especially if you study history like I do, watching shows and already knowing what's gonna happen because you studied it kind of takes the fun out of watching it. THAT SAID, it does still annoy me when they butcher the timeline anyway, especially when it comes to when certain people lived and died
Cnut centralized a lot of power on himself, which is why it all fell apart immediately after he died. I'd call that many things, "great" isn't one of them.
You forgot the expedition of Igzaks the Budderfield to the land Down under. He met with a tribe of Indian hawkers and traded tadpoles for booty. Thus creating a new race of Buttsmans. Midic stankz was the ruler of this land
Continuing a Weird History sequence! Eating a Spiced Sausage Pattie*†...while watching this Weird History video! This is a Future Nebraska Breakfast sequence! * Sausage patties are from the Weird History video "The Savory History Of The McMuffin." † The sausage is Jimmy Dean.
DC comics had 2 vikings:Jon the Viking Prince and the Viking Commando who was transferred to WW2...I didn't know Eric the Red had a daughter..a son maybe
Do a video on the Kee Bird. The b-29 that was forced to land in Greenland, and was in good enough shape to be flown out under its own power almost 50 years later. but caught fire during takeoff.
@@NordicFireDKK Not really. Maybe in the first four seaons. In what viking history is there a cripple son of Ragnar who kills his own brother Sigurd? Lol. Also Harald Finehair is a late descendant of Sigurd so why is he on the same timeline lol
Hakoon was best character from rest of them as she fighting for protection of her subjects like a true queen which christians lack as they were killing people just because they were following religion of their ancestors .
My veterinarian said the reason there are so many blonds in Scandinavia and so many people with bad teeth in England because the Vikings took all the pretty women with them
My mom was a big history buff and after watching Deadwood - I was only in Middle School and definitely not allowed to watch it with her - I was web searching via Wikipedia to find out Al Swearengen was a real person. My mom didn’t know that
You would have to wonder if she was the descendent of prisoners taken during Viking raids in North Africa/the Mediterranean but I HIGHLY doubt that’s what the writers were aiming for. Kinda like how there are now black elves on the upcoming LoTR tv series on Prime video.
I will always question the accuracy of a television show that uses a word to name it, that these people they speak of never actually used themselves. Valhall A indeed. Constraints of this platform negate my ability to tell you what to do with your Haakon Jarl.
Hollywood running out of blondes and gingers or did they just paid no attention at all to the sometimes quite old depictions and descriptions of viking age anglos and scandinavians ?
