Can I just say, I'm so glad someone on RU-vid is actually doing deep dives into the actual culture surrounding these Japanese games. Good job making this video in a digestible manner. For anyone interested in another story, there's an ongoing manga out right now called Mao. It's by the creator of Inu yasha and urusei yatsura. A lot of the stuff in this video is featured in the story including the cursed pot where the bugs fight amongst themselves, it's called a kodoku pot in the manga if I remember correctly. Anyway, I can't wait to see more stuff like this!

Ah Kuon, such a wonderful game. I love when folklore is used in horror

I wish some studio would remaster this. Or a sequel. Just keep it going.

14:12 oh my gosh, these traditions are like the Erd Tree burials and resurrections we see in Elden Ring!

Man, Kuon is such an anomaly compared to other horror games at the time.

I recall reading that hashizoroe specifically refers to the first time an infant is fed with chopsticks. I'm guessing that before teething, they were fed breastmilk or very soft food with spoons.

This was such an amazing watch!! Thank you for putting such effort into all the lore and history. It is helping me fall in love with my favorite game all over again! I appreciate being able to understand all of the traditions, rituals etc. as I play through the game again. Even the meaning of Sakuya's tattoo is so FUN to know about and how it plays into who she is, and what she is meant to be for the story! Knowing more about the trees and how they were viewed is so enriching to the story! And finally knowing what the song I've been singing what feels like my whole life actually means, is so fun! Do we have a translation for the Prayer that Sakuya says when holding RB to meditate? I'd love to know, ty!!

aren't centipedes considered kegare (unclean) in shinto? adds another level of horror to create such a dark beast

I don't know if the animal itself is considered that way, but I know there are a lot of stories about dangerous centipede yokai. I always end up thinking of Inuyasha... XD

The domon was recently featured in the anime "Mysteries, Maidens, and Mysterious Disappearances," so I had a moment similar to that meme with DiCaprio pointing.

A sequel to this game would have been so fascinating

I need the baby monster to grow up, I know the sequel has got to be about them fighting the monster urges and maybe having some oopsies people eating times.

Aren't the genders of sun and moon the other way around in japan? Because of amaterasu and tsukuyomi? Maybe it changed over time ( ¬ ω ¬ )
