Oxxo is like a 7-11 store. I have 3 units and my electric is 1000-2000 peso max ($50-100 max). My cell bill is 200 peso unlimited...($10) rent for 2 bedroom house on the beach in Encinada is only $500. I moved to Mexico almost 4yrs ago and best decision ever made but make sure they are not sticking it to you because you're ex pats. The people the culture, the pace of life the life style... I can breathe and enjoy life more👍

What I absolutely love is to hear that people from our culture and their culture are getting along with each other so nicely. In the states, which I will never understand, we seem to be at odds with one another. It hurts my heart to see that. Love her energy, and happy for her success there.

Again media tries to divides us here. But most of us don't fall for it. We are all human beings. Just trying to survive. Right? Heck with racist people. They are missing out.

Great interview as always. I Dont know the backstory of how she and her family got to Mexico so I’m not judging. But this is the importance of having an emergency fund. If you have to call people and get donations for $700 2 months in, you may have a hard road ahead. Also you have to get out of the vacation mode mindset. It seems she has learned that because she did address it. Wishing her much success in her future. Thanks for sharing.
@MoveAbroadandThrive
@MoveAbroadandThrive 11 месяцев назад
That vacation mode is a real one, and a tough one for folks to leave alone. I know when we first got here, we ate out darn near every day because in our head, the food was cheap. But the thing about cheap is that is adds up to a significant amount of money at the end of the month... And then you do it again in month 2 and 3 before you know it, you blew through a bunch of money. Cheap ain't always cheap - it adds up and hits your pockets hard. We ate, went to the movies, went bowling, etc... And bam... your finances are down significantly, lol...

Having good manners is very common among men and women outside of the United States. We used to have that culture in the states until the 80's. You find good family values in most cultures around the world that are NOT liberal. Most families are conservative. I used to live in Mexico. There are hundreds of thousands of Black men and women in Mexico. There are over 2 million "Afro-Mexicans" in Mexico that "appear mixed". You should visit Cuajinicuilapa. It's known as the town with largest black population in Mexico. Most Mexicans have black grand parents or great grandparents.

I enjoyed this interview. It showcases real life experiences living in Merida. I have to agree with both of you that in Merida/and its suburbs, one will find the most polite and courteous people I have ever met. My go-to example is from my 6-month full time stay (dozens of other visits/stays), but during my time living there in the Santiago neighborhood in centro, & as a single female senior, I was regularly greeted by (individuals or small groups) of junior high school students (male and female) who would say good morning or good afternoon, being seriously kind & courteous. Like that's gonna happen in the US anytime soon...

I am so introverted and wary of strangers. If some guy just started cutting my grass, I would probably be ready to leave. I would automatically assume that I am about to get scammed, as a woman moving there with my husband (elderly like her father, possibly.) I do realize that I am going to need a lot more mental prep before leaving the states. I am all about being cautious; but I would never want to go to another country with a negative attitude, or feeling like I am under attack. Sorry, but Corpus Christi, TX has left a not-so-good taste in my mouth.

When I was living in south Florida, I kept my air conditioning thermostat at 78-79 and I was fine. It's not the heat, its the humidity.

Merida was too hot for me at 21. I speak Spanish as a second language, since age 14. My first plane ride was to get out of the horrible heat of Merida. Acapulco had to many earthquakes and hurricanes, so that was the deal breaker for this beautiful city.

Good question I see a lot video talking about " how to live in Mexico for $400 a month" ? But , yes the requirements for visa is high which no one seems to explain together in one cohesive sentence .

She looks good. Her face is slimmer. I go outside in 100 degree heat trying to get used to it lol. I’ve lived in Dallas. Louisiana cali and Florida but uhhh yea I’m still not use to it but I’m determined to adjust. What do you keep your thermostat at there

Hey! Thanks, I appreciate that. I typically keep it between 24-28. It depends. But it's best to run at night if your gonna just let it run. The cost, I've heard are less at night. ❤

If you want a more American experience that is as cheap as Mexico, try BRASIL I have lived here since 2002 off and on, from Florida The north is warm all year round - 75-90F - Joao Pessoa, Recife, Fortaleza, Salvador The south has a cooler winter - 50-80F, lot of rain - Curitiba, Porto Alegre, Florianopolis, RIO LOTS of YT videos online for any of these cities, so you can check them all out BRASIL is very americanized, Walmart bought out a grocery chain and went broke in 5 years and sold the stores. NO Costco, Walmart but Sam's Club is here, and a lot of other discount grocery (Carrefour, Bom Preco) and large stores for anything. Bought an apto here in Florianopolis over a year ago, really like it here, lot of people speak english, more European population here. Lived in the north in 2006-7. Prefer the north because the ocean is a lot warmer up there 75F, water stays around 60F in the south all year, too cold for me. Going back to the north next year.

This is a nice interview, but I don't understand how someone with children moves to a new country without having resources. I don't think that I saw the first interview. How did she qualify for residency? I am just beginning the residency process and temporary residency requires a $55,000.00 cash reserve. They just arrived and are already having financial problems. 🤥

HOW ridiculous are the ELECTRIC BILLS ? WHY are they so HIGH ? Having 4 units has to contribute to the high energy consumption IF you had central AC I bet it would be a lot lower Most Latin countries DO NOT have central AC, except in commercial stores Am sure you can have central AC installed at some cost because they DO install them commercially

Great, to hear another great expat story.. The U.S. lies about Mexico every chance they get.. As far as medical care. Sign up for the national health service IMSS it is 9,950 pesos or about 550 dollar for the year.. All medicines all doctors visits and all medical tests free once you pay that one fee per year!!!

Sir, this is a random and off-topic question, but this is a question that has prevented me from moving to other countries, even with a remote job and stable income since 2008. Can you flush toilet paper in Merida? I can't deal with putting the toilet paper in a trash bin after using the bathroom. This is a no-go for me.
