I honestly didn't have plans to make this video. However, I had a delay in the delivery of some hardware for my french door build. When I went to go edit this carving video the last half of my footage was gone. So this Is what I came up with. Feel free to ask me any questions. This isn't a complaint video, just a snapshot of my experiences. I'm not quitting anytime soon.
Thumbnail is conveniently a photo I sent to a friend during this project when they asked my what I'm doing.

"Quality videos ", hell yes, your videos are excellent. They are tutorials of tried and true methods but your voiceovers are what set you apart. "I am doing this because of this, and because of this I have to do this." The thought process, the order of operations, you take us along on the journey. I have many of the same tools and follow along with my own personal projects. For me your narration, thoughts on construction for intended use, and just simple competence. You don't realize how great it is to see a project done well by someone who using their own ideas, skills and experience beginning to final product. No sugar coating, this was a challenge, I may try this next time, this technique worked well or didn't. The only bad part is that I feel bad for you freezing in that garage. You do you, it has been a very enjoyable ride. Thank you.

My brother keeps trying to pursuade me to put my work on YT, I remind him I don't have time to set up all that equipment as I would lose money and then customers as you don't get the work done in good order Really appreciate you taking the time, there are very few real world shops on here and I only watch YT

It definitely adds time onto builds. But, if it is something you wanna do, go for it. I don’t find myself missing deadlines because of filming. And I stopped filming stuff like sanding and painting and just show the finished product.

This is the first video I've watched of yours and I really admire your honesty. I'm a woodworker in UK and I'm 62 now, so been at it for well over 40 years - I've seen changes come and go. My best advice to anyone out there that I have always stuck to is not be watching what rivals are doing - don't worry about them, let them worry about you. I don't care if the guy up the road is better than me at some aspect of carpentry or joinery, I do what I do and that's it - and that's how I've always got by (and I know I always will)...! The same goes with videos or anything else.

I love your channel. If I ever did a RU-vid channel it would be for the same reasons as you mentioned. I can't see myself doing one as a "maker". I prefer the done to earth, practical and informative channels the most. So many of th4e "makers" try to entertain, I hate that. Don't entertain me, teach me something. Ill watch a music concert if I want to be entertained. I try to watch every video of yours and love them all. Unfortunately I often forget to like them. I'm really bad about that. Your shop (especially your previous shop) reminds me when I first started out 40 years ago and I often see some of the same tools. Brings back happy memories. Keep up the good work, I hope your channel takes off soon. You deserve it.

Thanks for the video. I recently became monetized after about two and a half to 3 years. I watched the numbers all the time since the beginning and I can see that the amount of work that I put into it is a direct correlation to the results I get. I also realized that some channels grow faster than others and make a lot more money sooner, for whatever reasons. I analyze all that stuff. I think you're doing great and like some of the others I have said your honesty and sincerity shines through. I'm just a hobbyist compared to you and I hope to get to your point at some time even though I don't need the money I see it as a challenge, and I enjoy doing the videos. Have a great day Honey Badger.

I started watching you videos around 6 years ago. Surfing the web, I came across a young person with a mask over their face about to use a table saw. I thought this is going to be interesting if not somewhat gory. Been amazed ever since. Anyone who can make fine Funiture using a chainsaw is one hell of an Artist / Woodworker. Keep them coming. I personally wish they were longer.

I enjoy your videos. I’ve often wondered about growth and earnings on RU-vid. I don’t upload enough content yet but I have been getting emails about channel growth. Still a hobby for me but fun to share what I’ve been doing, hoping others enjoy and some get ideas and maybe learn something. Mine have been documentary more than actual process as I’m not into all the editing that some do. I mainly combine clips and post with voice overs when needed. When I retire from commercial construction I’ll post more. Really appreciate the info and past experiences you gave this morning.

Love your videos and your honesty and integrity. But most of all, love your woodworking. I miss them when I'm away and off grid (like the last month) but delight in catching up what I've missed. I wish you more success but not at the cost of your lifestyle and intentions. I run my channel just to share and keep a record of some of the things I make so never made a penny, which is fine. By the way, if you ever stop making, please narrate audio books, that accent and tone are wonderful.🙂

Great video, love the content but mainly appreciate your candor. If I may, how does "sponsor" videos tie into it all and are those more lucrative than your youtube monthly income? Is there a threshold from a viewership perspective they focus in on (number wise) before approach you? If you do not want to share I totally understand. I was merely curious. I am NOT a RU-vid video poster nor do I have the desire or time to do so. All that said, I love your videos every Saturday morning. I enjoy my sipping my morning coffee, watching (but mainly learning) your video posts. Thank you. God speed, good luck and wish you continued success. Cheers!

I’ve never done a sponsorship, and by sponsorship I mean being paid to advertise. I hear they can be good money but honestly I don’t know how I feel about that sort of revenue. I have done review videos which is advertising in exchange for a free product. I do not do those a ton anymore because they are time consuming and I do not like advertising a product without throughly vetting it first and most companies want quick turnaround times on videos.

I learn something every time I watch one of your videos! One question… I have a one car garage that I store stuff in but unfortunately the door needs to be replaced! I was thinking about using some Poplar to build it out of! Any suggestions? Thank you for sharing your work!
@HoneyBadgerWoodWorks

Poplar is not a good lumber for exterior use. Douglas fir is a decent exterior lumber especially is you paint it and keep up the maintenance. And you can get it in dimensional lumber at big box stores.
