To mark anti poverty week 2014, the Don Dunstan Foundation spoke to three people working against poverty in the Playford area to gain a better understanding of the issues people in Adelaide's north face with regard to the Commonwealth budget and the looming closure of Holden.

So my first job as a lawyer, thus a university graduate with a degree, standing 5hours per day in court, wearing my black robe, representing ~20 clients per day, was for $13 000 per year. I do not lie.

C'mon no lawyer works for that if you we're state funded you would have been receiving quite a respectable salary.

And what of those on workers compensation, as per normal nothing mentioned about the impact of a workplace injury. We have injured workers in the northern suburbs who are on 80% of their pre-injury income, we have injured workers who are in dispute and have had their income ceased. 100% of costs of living still have to be covered. These people are not able to get help from the mainstream charity system because they are "deemed" to be employed. Work Injured Resource Connection Inc is the only place that the injured workers can go for help. We have seen an increase in contemplated and attempted/threatened suicides. However because workers compensation is not recognized by any of the Community Services, our voice is not heard.

I am in Victoria and i am able to tell you Rosemary McKenzie - Ferguson that our community service WILL assist injured workers as much as we possibly can with Food parcels, grocery vouchers, car insurance payments, utility payments etc. At present we have clients and we are doing the best we can for them along with several clients who are homeless, unemployed, low income etc. So please do not label all 'community services' with the same tar and feather attitude. I am sorry you did not receive the assistance you needed .. when you needed it.. that is really difficult to deal with.

Holden's Went Down The Drain, And So Did Most Factories That Replaced Their Hands On Personnel Officers, With, The Useless, And, Inefficient Human Recource Officers, Lets Get Rid Of, The Old Ideas, In Other Words, Lets Get Rid Of The People Who Have The Hands On Knowledge, And, Will Make Us Look The Incommpetents. He is doing amazing works in the community.. and all you can do is whinge about listening to him.. go get a real problem and see if you could keep up with doing a tenth of the amount of social justice and humanitarian works he does.. !!!!
