We got a flat tire in our rental car when we drove that road in Glacier. My mom and I started walking up the road to find help when a truck pulled over and warned us about a bear straight ahead. Thank God they saw us stranded and pulled over to help fix the flat with equipment they had. Ranger showed up right when we fixed it haha. It was quite a memorable experience!
I grew up on a dairy farm - my brother is raising his children (ages 9,7,5,2)on that same farm. Teaching them to do dangerous things safely is an all-day-every-day task. It’s the same for you letting the kids explore and learning how to do it safely! Kudos to you guys for helping them know their surroundings! Love watching your journey!
Yes! I had 3 sons & a daughter…my stance was “you can hang off of the side of a mountain…as long as you do it safely & with the proper instructions & gear”…scout leader said that isn’t the mindset of most of the mothers. Oh well, their loss!
When we visited Glacier we stayed off park at Hungry Horse National Forest. A short drive and beautiful, no where near as crowded. Hate to admit to you we didn’t have to wait for anything…shuttles, boat cruise, hiking drop offs. Took a tour on the red shuttles via road to the sun . No smoke….perfection.
We were stationed at Great Falls for four years when I was in the USAF. We were able to enjoy Glacier, before it was “discovered” for three seasons of the year. We have pictures of Tick Falls flowing full and just through the bottom. We revisited it with our sons when they were small and they were forever hooked on the Rockies. Two Medicine is our favorite campground and the lake has the best skipping stones to be found anywhere. Thank you for the memories!
We did a motorcycle ride with about 100 other bikers a few years ago. Started out in Kalispell, did Eastside, Canadian border, and came back down on Westside, in August, gorgeous weather in Kalispell, but rain, sleet and snow in the mountains. Glorious and scary day!!!! Loved seeing the clouds from above them instead of below!!!
My son used to have the same problem with shoes! We had good luck with wide and extra wide widths from Stride Rite. There isn't a brick and mortar store near us anymore, but you can still order online.
Ah. East Glacier Lodge the best stay ever. The 8 hr Red bus trip over the sun road was the best. The Boat ride in the morning at Two Medicine Lake. Plus Via Amtrak equals zero frustration vacation.
With the crowded roads, the 21 ft length limit and the tight parking it sounds like a good place to tour on my motorcycle. I was there several decades ago but I really don't remember much of it. Keep the good stuff coming guys and give the kids a hug for me.
Hi Marissa, I have been watching JJ since he was a baby and I noticed he was barefoot a lot, you need to get him earth runners or just barefoot shoes in general so he doesnt kick his crocs off LOL the bare foot are much wider exactly how our feet are supposed to be. In Amercia we wear shoes that are so tight its not supposed to be like that. Great episode, you guys are awesome. Watching every week.. Maybe we will see you on the road sometime best always, April Wright
Live just north of Glacier near Waterton Lakes National Park in Alberta. It’s beautiful too. We used to drive over Going to the Sun Road in Glacier every weekend to get to our cabin near Kalispell. It was a lot easier to travel but it is sooo busy now. You’ll love Lake McDonald on the East side. Water is beautiful and so crystal clear.
I went to glacier national Park last year. It was so much fun, but yes, the roads and the buses suck, but it was still such a beautiful place and the Ranger reviews at night with all the information and the walks so beautiful thanks for sharing it with me again. You guys are the best, God bless
Thank you for sharing this adventure...so beautiful & fun ! And I agree about the bumps, bruises & scraped body parts, as my lesson was a KFC chicken bone under my patella while walking across a footlog. Kudos to you both, best homeschooling EVER ~ Wanda & Vinnie
We just returned from East, West and North Fork-Pole Bridge adventures to Glacier. Yes some of the roads are crazy. The one to many glacier was just ridiculous. Good road then pothole road then good road again. One of the park workers told us it must be for crowd control. Just crazy bad road. We were used to the gravel roads as Kentucky is full of those but that many glacier was something else. This was one of the most beautiful trips we have been on and I can only imagine how it would be camping there. We enjoy your channel and adventures. Be safe!
Two Medicine was my favorite area of the park! We stayed up late photographing the stars and saw I northern lights for the first and only time ever. Many Glacier was pretty cool too! Oh, the memories you guys are digging up, thank you!
I’ve Been to Glacier 7 or 8 times. Gorgeous place! We have seen grizzlies every time we’ve been there. We had one go through our campsite in glacier campground.
We love watching y'alls videos, especially this one! Our family visited Glacier (and Yellowstone) back in early June and it was wonderful. We actually stayed at that Swiftcurrent Motor Inn you referenced. It was so cool to see your family experiencing some of the things we got to see and do earlier this year. Have a great last few days of summer!
Thank you for this journey to Glacier Park. It looked very beautiful there nice hikes. Nice waterfalls. Nice area to camp. Nice seeing Nathan playing with the kids. Spending time with them is a great thing to do. So glad Nathan was able to get JJ’s shoe out of the water. I too have issues with finding shoes that fit with my wide feet. I have cricks too but they are called Mary Jane cricks. They are comfortable. Thank you for taking me along with you on this journey. Can’t wait to see the next video! Stay safe and safe travels. See you soon! Have a great weekend!
Ahhh, yes! We snagged a week at the campground and scheduled our entire year-long trip around getting to that reservation! Roads were bad back then! What a great campground. We loved walking to the visitor center from the campground, too. We were so surprised at how bad the road was to Many Glacier!
We went to Zion National Park in Utah on a family vacation. Our daughter-in-law had never been there and she grew up 1/2 an hour away. It's so beautiful.
We just got back from Glacier last month. We drove our long bed F350 dually on Going To The Sun. Which was an experience in itself. We loved Many Glacier except for the road in! We stayed at Johnson’s RV park up on the hill overlooking looking St. Mary. Had a black walk through our campsite in the evening.!
A fun side quest on your way from glacier to Yellowstone is the natural bridge waterfall near Big Timber, MT. The river goes underground and comes out of a rock wall during the summer months when river levels are lower. Just another cool waterfall you could visit while your here in my home state. Thanks for you great content! I love you guys!!
We were there in 2017 too over the 4 th of July before the fires. The Going to the sun road had just opened. We are heading back next year. There are many wash board roads out that way we were on quite a few of them. We loved Two medicine lake. We took a 10 mile hike to see the two lakes from the great divide.
The mountain back behind the hotel … you can see grizzly bears and mountain goats. Just pull out the binoculars and watch the show! The moose in that lake are constant at Many Glacier. Such a magnificent national park! You can see it all right there, in a nutshell! ❤😊
It is so great you got to go on a hike with your girlfriends Marissa, the views were stunning! Ohhh, that was a little toooo close for comfort! - Michelle
Oh my gosh!! I did see you!! Seemed like we were following each other all over the park. Just always saw you from a distance or drove by you. Very smoky during that week, and hot, but still beautiful! Next time we hope to say hello! We should send you some coffee. Lol ;)
In 2018 took Amtrak from Portland Or. to West glacier. We stayed at an adorable cabin in Agar and took the shuttles to all our hikes. We learned that we had to be at the shuttle stops way early. The hardest one was coming back from Logan pass ( the continental divide point on Going to the Sun road). Waited an hour, but it was worth it just see the view instead of white knuckling the drive.
Me too! I mean, I still remember it fondly from way back then! You had such a nice time. I hope you got to visit The Great hotel at Lake McDonald. So beautiful
We went in 2018 when Two Medicine was FCFS…we drove from the west side all the way around to be there for 7 am, with fire visible in the trees as we drove. Scored a spot which was magical…but the GTTS road was shut at the top for the west side fires. Went again this year, staying in Apgar…the GTTS road was snowed in. 🙄 Someday we’ll hit it just right! PS the JJ shoe episode was hilarious.
We were in Glacier last year for 2 weeks; 1 week each on the west and east side. Did quite a few epic hikes and rarely saw wildlife 🙁 We decided on one of our low key days to head to Two Medicine. What a gorgeous area and not a lot of the crowds!
Love your channel, I watch every time you post. I am from Crossville, obviously right up the road from you in Cookeville. Glacier is my favorite park in the lower 48, I had a weeklong visit with some buddies and unfortunately it was smoky for us the whole time also. While you were camping at Many Glacier it brought back great memories; we had intended to cook our meals at our campsite but after we accidentally burnt the first breakfast we ending up eating from the store every meal after that lol. Thankful you get to see so much of God's Creation.
First, question for Marrisa...where is all ya'lls hats especially when hiking? You should be protecting your head from the sun. The St Mary's side is harder to navigate. That will be our next trip. We went to Apgar entrance and did the Red Bus tour to Road to the Sun. It was SO AWESOME! It was worth the cost. We rescheduled for 3 years and finally said the heck with it and went even though it was smokey when we we're there. Thanks for your videos. You are a beautiful family
New balance makes wide and extra wide. One of those might work for JJ. My son use to love his crocs too. Everything is so beautiful! Bucket list for sure.
We remember when y'all were on the Eastside with the Airstream and white van. That seems like forever ago. We were on the Westside in June before the going to the sun road was open. In my opinion, it's just not enjoyable there anymore. We love it. One of our favorite places in the world. It's just too dang busy. We have a picture from like 2015, in Logan Pass parking lot. There were like 10 cars. That'll never happen again.
Skechers has wide width kids shoes. If you can find a good shoe store and measure his feet it will help even if they do not sell skechers you can then order online. Used to go to a Shoe Box store to find the wide width kids shoes, One of my kids had bigfoot feet wide and huge and another had skis for feet for her size. Looked like you had a lot of fun. Stay safe and healthy.
I have clearly commented too many times on this episode but Nathan, my dad let me try to get his fishing lure in a glacial river deep woods camping near Jasper as a kid. It was a gorgeous coke bottle lid. Lol. But I love that story and it was freezing and I don't regret the experience. I don't recommend it but I don't regret it.
When my son was small (now 48) his feet were as wide as they were long...literal squares. We could only find one pair of shoes, a Nike, that was really expensive at the time. He wore that same size shoe, wore out at least 2 pairs a year, for 4 years!!!!
It would have been so fun to meet up with you guys. Ah next time. Of course maybe you guys bring the smoke ;-) the park is the same as its always been, but the traffic is unreal anymore. I wish i could have shown it to you just 20 years ago.
We did the Iceberg Lake hike in July of 2018, when we got there the icebergs were all over that lake and the deal was we both had to jump in the water which was freezing. 😂 but a lot of fun and reenergized us for the hike back.
Cool to see Glacier Park again. I used to go down from Alberta on long weekends sometimes a long time ago. I would highly recommend each adult have a large canister of bear spray in a holster on their hip while hiking in Glacier Park. You are in grizzly country. I did a lot of hiking alone in grizzly country in the Rockies in Alberta/BC before bear spray became available. But I never hike without it now, even in black bear country, but especially in grizzly country.
That road at Many Glacier has been that way for years. Not sure why they do t fix it. Many Glacier is awesome. Love that campground. Just found your channel. New sub 👍
@@LessJunkMoreJourney Hmmm. Not sure. I believe when you cross the cattle gates you leave the reservation and enter the park. The National Park Sign is there as well. A few years ago the road was that way all the way out to Babb and then it was paved it up the cattle gate that has the National Park sign. Not sure.
Had the same issue with my son when he was that age(he's 21 now). Only shoes that worked were DC Shoes. The ones with velcro. Not cheep but they were worth it.
My brother and I loved the east glacier side of the park. You guys had a great spot near swift current motor lodge. We actually hiked 🚶♀️ to red rock falls. At the trail head on the other end of the motor lodge parking lot, we met a native Blackfoot Indian. He and his wife were hiking to red rock falls. They asked if we wanted to go. It was an epic hike, he lived in st Mary his whole life, his grandfather worked on railroad and lodges in park. As we hiked he was like a scout showing roots on the trail 👣 bears 🐻 had eaten , moose 🫎 tracks, we even seen a lynx, a black bear. And mountain goats 🐐 on a cliff above us. We told Donnie we had missed the double boat ride from dock Nathan mentioned across swift current and Josephine to hike to Grinnell 2mornings in a row as we waited for someone not to show up for the boat. So we decided to hike to the Falls. We got to the Falls, and told us you guys want to continue to a glacier. Donnie took us to swift current glacier, it was a beautiful hike alot like Marissa hike to iceberg lake. Really enjoyed your last couple videos of the park. Love ❤️ you guys, safe travels , and buy another pair of crocs for JJ 😅
If it makes you feel better, I worked at Swiftcurrent Motor Inn for a summer (1979) and only used the buses to see the other Great Hotels…and once for along the Going to the Sun road. Mostly we hiked. Where you’re at is the best starting point for hiking.
We live on Vashon Island, in south Puget Sound and YES, the ferry system leaves little to be desired and the lack of coast guard documented crew is a real problem! You never know when, or how long the ferry closures can happen.
@LessJunkMoreJourney whoops! My comment was meant for the video of you guys on San Juan Island! Lol, not sure how I messed that one up, but I think you understood
We moved from Texas to Missoula, Montana 2 years ago and when we went to Glacier National Park for the first time..my Husband accidentally drove our 28ft RV on Going to the Sun Road and when he passed the area of no return..he had to do the whole thing from West to East Glacier bc there are no turn arounds lol. Thankfully he was a firefighter for many years and is a fuel truck driver now and can drive big trucks in little spaces, and he didn't hit anything and stayed in his own lane the whole time. A cop pulled him over and I pulled over in the Mustang behind them (now I drive a Subaru bc a Mustang doesn't do winter here lol)..The cop said "I don't know whether to cite you or salute you haha" and gave him a warning and we continued on into the St. Mary area to camp.
No worries on the crocs! My daughter actually had really good hiking shoes with her when we went to Glacier, and she still wore her crocs on most of the hiking trails. I actually didn’t even notice that until I went to edit the videos! 🤣😂
