Part of the reason I respect Dave is that he got off tv. Jesse James said it well when he said he’d never do tv again unless he had total control over the content

This clip is gold for any creator who thinks that making it on TV is now the dream. Seems like it used to be before RU-vid, but hearing the low value of an episode and having no control is crazy to me.
Seems pretty basic build crap trucks, give em away for views, ride other channels coat ride tails, break every smog law you can, sell cheap merch for insane profits and ambulance chase every major incident while filming .... because the vid will pay for it. Use all vehicles as business write offs so taxes dont get ya. Possible for anyone, just how low will you go to get that dollar.

Everyone for the most part that did Discovery is either broke or maybe crazy because one of the guys that had a show I think Dan was his name said they almost bankrupted him wanting to do retakes of takes and camera angles so they would have to fake the work over and over again. We need to remember this is a cable channel, Discovery and not CBS with deep deep pockets 60 years ago. Dan said the madness of producing the work at the quality they wanted for their customer with a Discover crew more less up their noses was just too much. He said enough and then went to work to restore his business and crawl out of the hole the fiasco with Discovery caused him to be in.
Fantom Works was the show. He said it best they want you to do a car from start to finish in a month and he's doing year plus restores. Delivering half done cars wasn't what he wanted to do.
What Dave is saying is what I see in his YT and VGG. On TV neither seem as fun or watchable as they do when they do their own thing on YT. It is hard to watch Derek on Motortrend compared to VGG. Seems scripted and rehearsed, not as fun.
I lost a lot of respect for Dave when about 5-10 years ago he would go on rants about how great illegal aliens are (can still find them on YT). Yes we are a nation of immigrants, Ellis island was legal immigration around 20 million people over 50 years. And we still have a path to citizenship that’s been undermined by the lawlessness. Now we have 300k illegals every month!Deep down he has no zero respect for our sovereignty but he considers himself a patriot. 🙄
And don’t forget all the give aways he did on RU-vid that other wealthy people would always seem to win. I think it was a razor he had a drawing for and miraculously it went to some helicopter company or channel.

TV is so bad and pre-planned compared to RU-vid. There is a reason most of the motor trend guys have left to do their own thing. The scope of life doesn't fit in a overly scripted TV box. Props to this group!
RU-vid is a grind. At it nearly 5 years and I’m about to hit 5k subscribers. But I make on average less than $300/month between RU-vid and Amazon affiliate program. A LOT of work for little payoff. I’t likely easier with a crew to help record and edit. But when you’re doing every step by yourself, it gets difficult. But I also get the fact that I’m not that entertaining.
Man I just realized how long I’ve followed Dave Sparks. Have followed him since the OG Built Diesel giveaway. The Diesel Bros. show kinda sucked but I’ll always like his classic RU-vid content.

I think what you mean to say is the real reason he doesn't have a show anymore is because it showed him breaking EPA diesel emissions regulations and it cost him almost a million dollars in fines. I'm sure Discovery didn't want any part of that.

Prolly because it’s all fake. I used to watch a lot of those shows but admit I’ve never heard of diesel brothers. Maybe it was just after I kind of quit watching those types of shows once I learned they are all fake.
