When Alex goes to visit Harper in detention and they talk at the window and declare their sisterly love for one another. Also during Meet the Werewolves when Alex tells Harper how Mason lied to his parents about Alex being a werewolf and Harper goes "He lied again?" and looks around like she wants to find Mason and tell him off.
When Harper is made the patsy from the monster hunters (ep w / Brigitte Mendler) and she had a dress covered in markers. And she had to run for her life!
No, the dog never showing up again didn’t bother me and let me tell you why. There is an episode later on, like WAY later on, where Max addresses it. He mentions how he didn’t tell his girlfriend about the dragon dog because he never understood what happened to it. Gold.
yes i was just about to say that i LOVE meta/self aware comments in shows (Henry Danger has more and more towards the end and they get me every time). the dog was so much more memorable for me because of this moment and i would absolutely take this little moment if dialogue over having a dog in the show lol
I praise Jen for discussing periods and menstrual cycles! I think it’s something totally normal to talk about. I always questions why so many people were embarrassed of it or scared to discuss it, it’s something normal that happens to women and it shouldn’t be taboo to talk about.
I’m nervous about having yhe convo with my daughter only because I started mine on a school field trip and I was in white shorts and the teacher that tried explaining it to me was so much more confusing so the discussion scares me on making sure I explain it correctly
@@breeprice2307 don't be afraid to ask a healthcare professional for advice on how to approach it. Also don't be afraid to use a pamphlet or any other kind of educational guide to talk through with her and then give it to her and let her know she can approach you with questions.
As a cis man, I agree. People (especially cis men) need to stop thinking periods are taboo, or something to be ashamed of. All people who have uteruses have them. It's a normal part of biology and it's nothing to be embarrassed by.
I try to talk about it all the time with my family and im immediately shut down just don’t understand when my mom is a woman and she tells me not to talk about it. Kind of ridiculous that we are shunned about something thats natural
29:27 In "New Employee" and "Harper Knows" they show us that they use magic to switch between the freezer and lair depending on who goes in and out. They use their wands to highlight the door handle.
They did explain how justins dog went missing. Justin said he ran out when the pizza guy came but it was revealed at the end that 7 year old Alex wanted to take him for a walk and he wanted to go for a run and thats how he went missing
the quintessential alex quote is probably "you're saying i have to come up with a solution all by myself, to a problem that i created all by myself? well that's not fair"
David talking about the little girl asking if the magic is real is the cutest thing ever, it’s always so nice to hear that the actors who played the characters you loved are just as lovable ❤ 41:28
I love that you mentioned the episode continuity because it DID always bother me as a kid. The one that bugged me the most was the last half of season 4 where Alex and Harper couldn't decide if they had graduated or not. A few episodes following the story in the apartment building have them either going to school or mentioning school (usually as an excuse for Harper to be off screen). I remember it really getting on my nerves that the story didn't quite add up. Love these recap episodes, keep them coming!
that’s such a good point! i know in some countries like Canada it’s more common (at least more common than in the US) for teenagers to have their own apartments but in the context of nyc it makes absolutely no sense for them to still be going to high school while living in an apartment. there’s so many reasons why that wouldn’t work lol
@@crab2195 its not even that they had their own apartment, it was that they graduated BEFORE they got their apartment in the episode where the meteor hit the school. After the apartment blew up in their face, they go BACK to school! I imagine it was bc they were filmed out of order and, in Disney's defence, I don't think the show was really made to be watched in order (except for the Wizards vs. Vampires etc).
@@elisgeorge2420 ohh okay i see what you mean! it honestly makes sense that season 4 was a complete mess after the original director left. makes me wonder what could’ve been!
I remember as a kid the dog being gone from the rest of the show bothered me for like 2 weeks until I forgot about him again. As a kid watching, that made it confusing to know when that episode was in the timeline bc the addition of a family dog seemed like something that would remain canon. They do hand-wave the dog away with a line in S3E19- Max tells his crush about magic to the point she’s familiar with particular spells and magical artifacts from prior episodes and someone asks “max! Did you tell her \everything\” and he responds “I didn’t tell her about the dragon dog because I’m still not sure what happened to that”
You guys really need to get Amanda Tepe on, she was such an amazing reoccuring character 🤣 Also, i didnt watch the show in order so the missing dog didnt bother me but thinking about it now it does bother me, dragon was cute ❤️
Well I was searching the Wizards IMDB page while watching you two and Holland Sanders was listed. BUT I just looked again after I finished the video and guess what? She's no longer listed on there. That was quick work.
No, Alex DID buy the dragon dog. Justin didn't want the dragon dog initially, Alex bought it FOR Justin. Also Alex DID say what happened to Willy (the dog Justin had previously) Alex let him out to have him go for a walk and "Willy wanted to go for a run". Didn't you guys JUST watch this? 😉 AND, they DO mention the dog again in Max's Secret Girlfriend because Jerry asks Max "Is there anything you didn't tell her?" and Max replies "Yeah, I didn't tell her about the dragon dog because I have no idea what happened to that".
@@elen1758 Whenever they have mentioned it they usually seem to rewatch the night before. I know they have said "last night" when I watched it and such. David in this episode even says at 0:17 "I was up late again with Tony" so again that sounds like he watched it the night before filming. Now I apologize if it came off as rude though it was meant more in a playful banter way.
I think what I've gathered from these podcasts is it seems like they bingewatch a certain amount of episodes, so while they're in the studio they can record multiple podcast episodes back to back in bulk to have to release for a while. So if they refer to "last night", means they might have just had their most recent binge. Also the "Max's Secret Girlfriend" episode was written by the same duo that wrote this episode so that's likely why it was referenced
Okay so searching for Holland Sanders online I found a ‘wall of celebrities’ page for her that lists her under a French title of wizards. I’m thinking maybe she could have voiced one of characters in a French version of wizards. So the entry is maybe actually correct but should say voice of or something. It’s something to look into at least.
I found her! She has her own website and everything. She was born in 2000, so most likely her parents didn’t claim her credit and when she got old enough she did, which is why it appeared suddenly. I can’t link her website because I’ll get reported as spam but if you google “Elle Holland Sanders Wix” you’ll find her website which even explains she wants to go to school for neuroscience! So neat.
Yeah, I noticed that too. Also it looks like she's no longer listed on the IMDB under Wizards. I checked half hour ago and she was but checked again a few minutes ago and she's not anymore.
@@TheCGoerlich Whoa!! So weird!! I just checked it out & you’re right! I even just looked at her IMDB page which mentions everything except Wizards now! (Just a note that her personal website lists everything her IMDB page does/did as well, including Wizards. I didn’t assume the website was the same Holland Sanders just because of the name, it mentions Wizards on there!)
@@fifinoir it’s def the same person as the IMDB matches their website. Perhaps they were like 4 years old when being an extra? If not, something is fishy!
It did kinda bother me that the dog was never seen again. But at the same time I’m glad a dog wasn’t used past this episode, because of animal cruelty on sets being talked about so much. Regardless, the show turned out so well even without the dog. I feel like in the first season, continuation was not much of a thing- whereas in further seasons, continuation is better i.e. things would still be in more episodes or be talked about more instead of just one episode.
my heart broke when jennifer said she wasn’t allowed to pet the dogs because they’re show pets or whatever. i’m sure (at least i hope) the dogs receive affection elsewhere but the idea that none of them can comprehend why no one is petting them is heartbreaking😭 justice for dog actors they deserve a big hug and a million “good boy”s!
@crab21 They do. It's the same as not petting service dogs. They are animals and lose focus easily better to not risk it. Source a friends dog was used in Marley and me but he ended up being cut (Scene when he was running through the park)
Honestly, it didn't bother me that we never saw the dog again. It did bother me when they had a situation that I knew a spell from a previous episode could fix but they wouldn't use it! But they have to do it for the plot so I'm not complaining!
It means so much to me to get to hear you two talk every week! I wasn’t allowed to watch anything with magic as a kid so I thought wwp was the “rebellious” kids show- hearing about how loving and wholesome the whole thing was is really doing it for my inner nine year old 😁❤️
Continuity wise, the one that bugged me specifically was that Miranda was Justin’s girlfriend very early on in the season and then several episodes later we get “introduced” To Miranda. My guess is they filmed them in there correct order, but i just don’t understand how they let that one slip through the cracks.
There was something Harper said that legit molded my Braun. "I don't ever feel insulted, my brains wired differently!" This. I aligned with harper so much. The hardships she went through as a character as well as her demeanor. Hearing that, made me think I was some one meant to be ok with being made fun of. While it did thicken my skin, made me funnier, and able to understand social situations, growing up it made me very passive. It's only been until recently that I've been getting more capable of standing up for myself. But it was also thanks to seeing you two here now, doing this podcast. It helped me grow, seeing how you have grown. Thanks for being some of my TV parents. Live ya both dearly for what ya did for a young Joe. Also love the pod!
When David mentions his dachshund it makes me think of Itchy the dachshund that David's dad did the voice of in "All Dogs Go To Heaven" RIP Dom Deluise. The little things that David does reminds me of his Dad.
I appreciate the attention to detail you guys point out, but honestly I was young so I didn’t realize anything when it came to continuity 😅 I never realized the dog never popped up again or anything else that didn’t because I just looked at it as an episode by episode basis, since it was always something different each time. I notice that kind of stuff more with dramas or soaps that have a set storyline & carry things onto the next episodes/seasons.
I understand the frustration about the continuity of the dog thing, but having recently binged the whole series, I completely forgot about the dog and it didn't bother me. However, in season 3 or 4 there is a call back that is hilarious where Jake is grappling with the potential of being the family wizard and is talking about all the responsibilities and he says "I still don't know what happened to that dragon dog!" and it brought it back and was hilarious because it left me thinking "wait, what did happen to that dog?"
Noticed during my rewatch that there's a spell named after Peter Murietta (Murietta Animata). Is there a reason this spell is named after him like a personality trait or an inside joke? Great episode as always ❤
yesss!! they said the producers would make inside jokes out of it. Another producers name is Gigi McCreery so they named the "McReary-Time Reary" spell after her in episode 2
I watched this show a lot growing up on Disney channel and I remember when your guys’ show first came out and how much hype you guys got. It makes me really happy to see this podcast, especially after watching reruns of the show recently. You guys have great chemistry together as hosts too
I gotta give a shout out to the poor soul who sweeps the floor of the podcast set. All those names dropped all over, must be hard work. Though to be fair, I am a fan of a lot of those people.
I'm always concerned about the dog too. In action movies and stuff, when the main character goes through something crazy and comes out alive, I'm always like okay, but where is your dog! And the banter between you guys is goldm never stop.
Yes, it did bother me a little that they made such a big deal about keeping the dog and it just vanished. Like no "the conwizard took it back" or "he set fire to someone's bed". Again we hear from Max that the dog just disappeared but that was two years later.
I only noticed the dog once I started binge-watching the series along with you all. From week to week when the show first aired, it never really occurred to me.
GUYS , HOLLAND SANDERS WAS REMOVED FROM THE IDMB !!!! This morning, she was still on the IDMB for wizards, and when I came to do my rewatch of the podcast episode , I searched up after hearing David going on his amazing campaign. HOLLAND SANDERS IS NO MORE
I am really enjoying tuning into this podcast. I love the back and forth between the two of you. Thank you(again) for coming together for this Wizards podcast.
Throughout the podcast you guys have mentioned storylines and bits that were never continued which, as a kid, I never noticed. However, the dog is definitely something I did always wonder about
I gotta stand up for you David!!! Jenn is Tripping!!! YOU HAVE EVERY RIGHT TO BE ANGRY!!! I’m currently writing a letter to IMDB, and I’m sorry but Jenn can you please try to let David finish talking sometimes you have a real bad habit of cutting him off when he speaks and it makes me feel really bad for him. Love both of you and the show so much!
I'm getting to this episode a couple weeks later. I've searched this episodes IMDB and Holland Sanders is no longer listed there. Nor is Wizards listed as one of her credits on her IMDB. Guess they did the work and changed it!
The incredible mismatch of the Clickbait Outrage Title and the fun, human conversation makes me laugh every time. Title: “FIND OUT WHY JENNIFER STONE WAS JEALOUS OF DEMI LAVATO” The episode: She had a cool phone :)
She has a full website, and was born in 2000, so was probably so young while an extra that she didn’t claim the credit until recently. She has a Wix website! If I link it here the comment may get flagged but google “Elle Holland Sanders Wix” that’s her full name, and she acted under her middle name it appears.
id love to hear both of you talk about general stuff outside of wizards more!! your general conversations are super entertaining and interesting to listen to but it tends to be cut short (for time reasons understandbly) but itd be awesome if u did!! its interesting to hear about yalls daily life
The freezer was also an actual freezer, it was just like a magic portal to their layer. There were times that showed frozen produce in there when the portal didn’t work.
I love how open and vulnerable these two actors are 🥰 talking about periods should become a norm. It's not disgusting, it's a part of life for women. Also, I understand why the dog wasn't shown in the following episodes, but I i wish they implied that they still had the dog through dialogue 😅
"Fuck those people, write me a letter!!" - DeLuise said what we were ALL thinking!! 🤣 Also, there is a moment in S3 where Max does a callback and says he still doesn't know what happened to the dragon dog. Lol. And I think they did use the wizard computer when they were searching for Jerry and Kelbo's sister to redo their wizard competition so the whole family wouldn't lose their powers. But that may have been a different device, there are also of props used so it's hard to keep track lol.
A guy asked me (years ago) if I had a razor cell phone and I thought he meant a razor for shaving. So I proudly said "yeah. It's purple." He goes, "they make them in purple?" I said yeah and was extremely confused. Then he said he was asking about the cell phone and I went "ohhhhhhhhhhhhhhh!" 😂
Nope, he absolutely does in Max's Secret Girlfriend (Season 3). Max tells his girlfriend Nancy (Bella Thorne) all about being a wizard and Jerry asks "Is there anything you didn't tell her?" and Max replies "Yeah, I didn't tell her about the dragon dog because I have no idea what happened to that".
I think not bringing back specific aspects of the show works for the plot because we're only seeing specific moments of their lives. Like the typewriter, because technology was advancing or maybe online shopping became less frequent - whatever the case - it wouldn't make sense to circle back if it wasn't important after that moment. Even the dog. Maybe there were reoccurrences on days that existed in the WOWP universe but not written into the script and made into an episode.
I personally don’t think not seeing the dog again ever bothered me. I was just normally so focused on what the next episode is about. But it’s until someone mentions something that happened in the past, then I think, “oh yea, hey whatever happened to that”
I thought at some point Alex said she wanted to take Willy for a walk, but he wanted to go for a run? Like she opened the door to take him outside and he bolted, that's how he got lost.
You know its gonna be a good day when wizards of waverly pod posts ❤ also i "looked up holland sanders wizards of waverly place" and pictures of the actress who played gigi popped up maybe they just got them two confused?
They did use the typewriter wizard computer more than once in the early seasons, maybe three times. one of the other times was when Justin was doing online dating with the centaur...
You two should make another podcast where you tell stories about experiences you feel comfortable sharing (Example: What made you choose the career you did? What was the hardest part of acting? How did you get started acting? Who inspires you? Did you ever get into a car accident or injured yourself doing something, has anyone backstabbed you horribly? What was your experience growing up in your neighborhood? -) Also give advice(ex. tips for college, tips to start acting, tips to be more confident, tips to have a good mindset, tips for time management or exercise), interview your friends, and random Hollywood connections. I recommend calling it Bubbles Of Sunshine because your energies radiate positivity and your smiles are infectious. Just a suggestion and I appreciate what you guys have done for many people's childhood. Stay safe
but ads are how they get to make money off the podcast! I personally just fast foward on the times i wanna skip ads but it really helps the podcast grow if they get sponsors :-) ❤
I honestly didnt even realize as a kid that it didnt show up again. I watched it on tv and not stream so i waited at least a day or a week until i saw another episode. As a kid i didnt even realize that series had a set order. I mean i was like 4 or 5 or sth when i started watching wizards
Can I just say that I love my sister. Hearing yall talk about Alex reminds me of her. We work in the same building. Rarely interact, but the love is there. And whether we ask or not. We are always there for each other.
For me to answer the question about the dog, it never bothered me because at the end when the dog farted, even as a kid I thought, oh they're not gonna end up keeping him, because the whole family seemed grossed out. So there was an assumption that they probably gave it to a more responsible and capable family. I suppose as a kid, with the rest of the continuity and loop holes never bothered me now that I think about it. I just remembered the show as very well written in terms of punchline and storyline, and it still lives up to today even as an adult!!
The men listening aren’t bursting into flames, we’re still here to listen, learn, and enjoy whatever you have to talk about. I think many of us are also very interested in the filming aspects, your personal lives, the acting industry, we want to hear it all. So just talk, and talk, and don’t worry too hard about what the audience thinks. We’re here to support you.
