The reason Sentinel is so overpowered in Marvel vs Capcom 2. 

Of course he's overpowered - he's just 1 sentinel in a game thats absolutely *replete* with mutants!

I always wish they made this specific Sentinel an actual comic character. Just think that somewhere out there, in the sea of jobber and easily trashed Sentinel robots exists the dreaded COTA-94 model who completely fucks mutants up without mercy.

Yeah, devs must've been overworked when doing Sentinel- they let so much slip through the cracks. If the game was out today, he would've been patched within the first few weeks of release lol.

Long story short, This Sentinel is missing a TON of frames and animations that this sprite had in COTA. MVC2's lazy programming is to blame.

Sentinel welcomed me to Marvel as he was my very first online fighting game experience,got bodied every single time and I couldn't see 80% of my character because of that flight mechanic. 10/10 Would fight him again.

After all these years, the 'unflight action mode' was a surprise to me. MvC2 is a Field of Study at this point.

That was interesting but I still have one question: Did the character select BGM singer ever take you for that ride?

I don't know how difficult it is to include the twitch chat in your yt uploads, but a lot of mvc2 og's have been dropping knowledge during them and it would be great if they could be preserved.

I love how you didn't even have time to talk about like half the reasons Sentinel is insane in this game. Chip damage on all his normals, insanely busted damage scaling, unblockable mouth beam, the list goes on. No wonder they call MvC3 Sentinel Wackbot lol

He flies, can defeat the one exploitable weakness of his flight through a glitch, has massive reach, chip damage on normal hits, projectiles that cover the stage and can combo into and out of supers, a hit of super armor and can cover the arena faster than characters half his size...and that's WITHOUT assists from his team. He has literally everything. Is it any wonder you can't turn around without seeing him in a match? How he's not banned from more tournaments is beyond me. He's the Shin Akuma of MVC2.

I don’t know if he mentioned this but sentinel can absorb like 140% damage (please correct me if the exact number is wrong) compared to a normal character taking a hit. So it’s like having a character and a half.

i remember being overkilled by my brother using sentinel, magneto and storm i never understand the background of it since i was a teenager, now you came with a good explanation, never had a chance against my brother hahaha,if i was able to escape the ground combo he always find me in mid-air to lock it with the aerial combo and finisher

Even with all of Sentinel's BS, I always found him a lot more fair than Cable, Magneto or Storm. At least Sentinel can't infinite you into another infinite while building meter or AHVB 5 times in a row with a brainlessly easy motion. Also Sentinel is very easy to infinite himself. Just saying.

You say the word 'LISTEN' more than Navi the fairy from Zelda OoT.

Unfortunately the classic meta has turned into Rock Paper Scissors. You have Orthadox sentinel teams, Unorthadox sentinel (trap) teams, and then you have MSP (Magneto Storm Psylock) which counters the unorthodox teams and also makes short-work of all the riffraff.

You also forgot about Sentinel's Unblockable. The ducking hp if you can make the thick outer portion miss but the inner portion hit, the inner portion will not be unblock able. There's a way to defeat it with some characters, like blocking 1 frame before the beam touches you. This allows you to conserve your guaranteed guard frames allowing you to block it, but some characters [Psylocke for example] can't use this defense at all. This can be done when a character falls in from the side of the screen, after falling from a super-jump, and after a hard knockdown in a combo allowing you to reset the damage possibly killing the character.

I miss those days...no nerfs, no buffs...it was what it was. We labbed and found ways to defeat those characters that were considered "broken."

We used to play like this to add depth so it wasn't always an MSS mirror match: 2 bans each. No one picks those characters. P1 bans once. P2 bans twice. Then P1 does second ban. No dupes in character select, so once a character is picked they can't be on the other team (or same team if you were on Dreamcast). P1 picks 1 P2 picks 1 and 2 P1 picks 2 and 3 P2 picks 3 You got some really varied teams that way and needed a deep roster. The last person to win was P1, not always the P1 slot. You could skip the ban phase if you wanted top tiers, since it was pretty much always MSSC that got banned in my town.

none of those glitches are exclusive to Sentinel, though. Iron Man also abuses those with crazy efficiency.... with unfly mode activated, Iron Man is BY FAR the most menacing (not the best...) character in this game (even if he's not really the best one opening people up), basically, he's the only one that can kill anyone from any hit anywhere because of those very same glitches you pointed with Sentinel. also, I really thought you'd speak about Sentinel's unblockable... that thing is very important as well.

Cable Sent is definitely a really strong combo to play.

MvC2 must be the fighting game with the highest skill ceiling and depth. Correct if wrong. But i miss the times where characters didn't all have one same basic combo, instead the game made you experiment from the very start. I need to see more games like this being made.

You missed a ton of points on why he’s the best character in the game. He’s faster than more than half the cast in flight which means most characters cannot catch him if he holds backward in flight mode. His normals not only chip but have incredible range and angles that are insanely difficult to deal with. Rocket punch (rp) being one of the highest damaging moves in the game; other characters have to work for 50% combos while Sentinel super into air combo rp is easy to hit AND other characters combos might be hard to hit on specific characters like Roll, sent’s work on everybody. He has the highest health, has super armour. His beam is unblockable if timed correctly. DHC into HSF super resets the damage scaling. All 3 of his assist are viable. Sentinel is great on point, he’s great 2nd to DHC into hsf for the damage scaling reset and he works 3rd as an assist. He’s literally always good in every position

this youtuber: His flight is "low-key" one of the most broken things in the game. And that's how I knew you sucked in this game. EDIT: You wanna get better at this game? Stop picking non-characters. Cyclops is a non-character, just an assist, and you're obviously not Justin Wong, so you can't turn non-characters into characters. Doom's movement is so trash that he needs to be played by a defensive god-player who can actually defend the pressure from the S tiers. So I really don't know why you can't see it, but your only character is Sentinel. You're playing 1v3. Also, yes, Mag/Storm/Psylocke is a thing, but the execution required is so difficult (because Psylocke is a non-character) that Justin Wong in his peak eventually switched to Mag/Sent/Cable, and then he became hated as the guy who won EVOs by turtling. The only guy who consistently played Mag/Storm/Psy in Wong's level, I don't remember his name, but I'll never forget he invented a combo-reset after a decade of the game being out, and when the guys in the forums asked him what genius possessed him to come up with that, he replied that he mostly played half-drunk, so he had barely any recollection of his thought process. Also, it seems like you're bouncing between characters and between games. When I played MvC2, I dedicated the same time to Mag/Storm combos as I did to my guitar practice (hours on end). So you'll never pull off anything exciting in this game unless you focus on it like it's the most execution-heavy fighting game in the last 20 years (correct me if I'm wrong, but I think it is).

He didnt even explain the DHC glitch that makes sent very powerful. His hyper sentinel force doesnt scale off a dhc which makes dhc's do upwards to 90% life with the right dhc's.

Isn't commando better with sent as an AA, they get hit with captain corrodior and you get to hit them with a rocket punch and follow with some more pressure string while dishing out more chipping damage. Haven't played the game in a decade but back then the mall we used to go to had that arcade and many players that's competitive will swing by as well. Unless your opponent is locked in with doom assist, and youre using cyclops to break through doom's rocks.

@jmcrofts you forgot his 4th glitch the last frame of his laser is unblockable. For example if your enemy is waking up and you time Sentinels cr.HP so that the end of the laser hits as they are getting up , they cannot block it then you rocket punch super. This is the only constant character in any of my teams. He’s kinda busted but he’s just too fun, the most fun character of the top tiers imo.
