She is one of the few reasons why today's mainstream artist's (well most of them at least) song are so easy to forget. This genius of a talent must be made to surface for music-loving souls to enjoy.
I think about how it might have been We'd spend our days travelin' It's not that I don't understand you It's not that I don't want to be with you But you only wanted me The way you wanted me So, I will head out alone and hope for the best And we can hang our heads down as we skip the goodbyes You can tell the world what you want them to hear I've got nothing left to lose, my dear So, I'm up for the little white lies But you and I know the reason why I'm gone, and you're still there I'll buy a magazine searching for your face From coast to coast, or whatever I find my place I'll track you on the radio And I'll sign your list in a different name But as close as I come to you It's not the same So, I will head out alone and hope for the best We can pat ourselves on the back and say that we tried And if one of us makes it big We can spill our regrets And talk about how the love never dies But you and I know the reason why I'm gone, and you're still there So, steal the show And do your best to cover the tracks that I have left I wish you well and hope you find whatever you're looking for The way I might've changed my mind But you only showed me the door So, I will head out alone and hope for the best We can pat ourselves on the back and say that we tried And if one of us makes it big We can spill our regrets And talk about how the love never dies But you and I know the reason why
She reminds me a little like Linda Ronstadt - beautiful, brilliantly talented and very smooth. A great listen too artist and performer. Thanks for the post.
Rachael Yamagata has a way of relating to humanity. The lyrics, although unique to her experiences, touch us in a way where we can see ourselves in past relationships/ a past relationship. The silver lining in her song is if we hadn't been through the heartache and letting go, we wouldn't be standing on the other side in love. I especially love her beautiful, youthful face, contrasted with her strong, adult voice. Although, in the lyrics she is going through pain and misery, her inner strength indicates to the audience that she has handled the fallen relationship.
Oh God this reminds me of THE ROSE ending or whatever that movie was where she's on stage alone...and I'm already depressed...THAT MICROPHONE sound...good music though.
This is what I listen to when I just want to feel my feelings. Kills me every damn time I hear it. Such angst. How can a song sound so good and hurt so bad?
I must have listened to this about 200 times, but everytime, it bowls me over & reduces me to zero. This girl is a very special person. Thats all I can say.
This song reminds me of the one I love. Especially that part "And if one of us makes it big, we can spill our regrets and talk about how the love never dies....." He's a musician while I'm a model/actress. La Boheme.. And he's married. We live different lives and hope to make it big on our own. But we never fail to look at each other from the distance. And sometimes love is like that, you know the reason why but it just stays like that. And love isn't enough to bring you together. It's sad.
I'm sitting here with a miss Yamagata, (cousin) you guess which one, and she told me you were a singer, I'm a music major and HOLY FUCK GIRL!!!! you're amazing I love the youre voice and your piano skills are off the charts, I want to reach for your level. I made a goal to play at an open mic this semester and I did a voice recital and-and open mic (in sequence) and I was pleased, but I want to know your secrets!!!! if you want to email me or something... id appreciate that.
how do I rate this more than 5 stars ??? Seriously.. I've loved this girl since the day I found out about her about 5 years ago. She's got an incredible voice and is an incredible songwriter!
Just perfection, a voice that whisper the pain and reasons why life/love is so hard to explain and quantify. The seaarch is what keeps hope alive and is true in life. Rachel, beautiful song PERIODDDDdD
Every time im heart broken and want to end it- Rachael soothes me … just God…. Was so lucky to see her live . 🙏 . She puts all the unsaid thoughts & emotions into her lyrics .
@quoyote Rachael used to perform in a band called Bumpus, in Chicago. She decided to make the difficult decision to go solo and perform her own music. Its not a secret that she was also dating one of the band members, or that this song is about their eventual break up. She's writing a new record, and soliciting donations for preferred access. I'd suggest to everyone that you look up her website and make a donation. She's the best. Honest.
@romayousaf that is good to hear but i mean, from my experience, sure girls like emotional/sensitive guys however they also wan guys who can be upfront, take charge and be a man right? which i find contradicting so i guess you need have a good balance in between. I am a sensitive guy but i like to turn it down or now show it for those reasons. Any thoughts?
Just came across this on youtube and went straight to Itunes to BUY Rachel's album. Love pure artists like this. No manufactured cookie cutter pop rock. Will always support people like this. Awesome talent.
