I saw Rachael perform this song live when she opened for Liz Phair in 2004. She made some reference to a guy named Tom whom I assume she wrote this and/or some other song(s) about. As I was leaving the venue, I saw her standing in the lobby talking to people. I walked up to her and said, “Forget about Tom. He’s not worth it.” I could have used that same advice later that year when this song reminded me of the man I was dating when I saw Rachael perform it.
With the number of views this has, I sincerely believe this is one of the most underrated songs (underrated singers as well) and videos of all time. This brings back old memories from the 00’s…also, I’ve never seen a music video romanticize Tijuana before like this. 🤔
The O.C. She was the act they were watching live when something happened between Seth and Summer or Seth and Anna or something.... I can't remember. But I fell in love with her and her voice, and this video, then.
This was my favorite song in 2004, when I was going through my first bad ‘relationship’ as a teen. The CD wasn’t in the stores where i lived, so I’d listen to those blank screened music channels every morning waiting for it to play. Thanks for making this song.
I remember this from back when VH1 used to do countdown shows where they’d show the most popular songs of the week. This song never made it to the list, but it was an honorable mention one week and I became obsessed with this song as a 12 year old boy lol
Oh! The label finally uploaded a decent version. I was just 3 yrs late. Thank you DRIVE 105 Minnesotas New Alternative for introducing me to this gem. RIP
The first time I heard this song , it spoke to me. The first time I saw the video, I had and still have a crush on Rachel- a beautiful soul😊 thank you for such great songs and being so pretty good singer - Todd in SoCal

This song is about a woman who is in a relationship with a man/woman who is still obsessed with their ex. Her self esteem and sense of self worth are being driven to the ground because her lover is always comparing her to his/her ex. Rachel is angry, hurt and frustrated and wants to leave the dead end relationship. The video represents her state of mind. She feels trapped, in a cage and the townspeople can all see her embarrassment and they talk about her. She feels like a sideshow freak and the toxic relationship is killing her emotionally. In the end there is hope as she falls to the ground exhausted, away from the onlookers and is prepared to build herself up again and start over.
