I only played half of KH1 but it holds a special place in my heart as it reminds me of staying up late playing it with my mum before she passed (she liked all the disney characters). So happy and excited for Sora in Smash.

The way Sora entered the scene, carelessly flying over everyone as if he's saying "It's gonna be alright. I'm here now" gave me chills and got a little emotional too. That music will always have the same impact on KH fans. I never really got myself SSB because I'm not good at it but I'm seriously considering getting it now and be better at it now that Sora's around.

I think Sora as the last character is very fitting considering in his games he goes to various worlds connecting the hearts of people together, I feel like it's a good ending for a game that's a love letter to games in general.

@@MonoDree My headcanon is that this is actually when he was put to sleep by Namine post Chain of Memories. His heart was summoned by the keyblade in the Smash world. Explains the outfit, his matured voice compared to KH1, and why he appears younger than in KH3

Sora is not a disney character. Kingdom hearts is a collaboration between disney and square enix, but the game is developed by square enix and sora is definitely not a disney character. There’s no need to blame disney for everything

This has been known for a while and was 100% confirmed back during the Disney Infinity days by a Disney exec. Notice whose name comes first on the box. Its Disney. Notice who holds the copyright on Sora for smash. Its Disney. Notice who os the main focus on EVERY KH copyright screen. Its Disney. It even acknowledges that Square only holds copyrights for their content (FF, TWEWY). A quick google search can tell you that Disney owns KH. Do they have to consult with Nomura before doing snything with KH? Yes but the same is true for the other side. Its a respect thing and part of the deal but Disney owns Sora, KH, and ALL original KH content lock, stock, and barrel.

I just saw the replays to my comment and: To MelancholyJoker19, I didn’t know that Sora was owned by Disney, since the game is developed by Square I assumed it was owned by them, my mistake, thank you for correcting me. And to ATRILEY II DarcTheLad, chill, I’m not trying to “spread false information”, as you said. Apparently I was not well informed and I didn’t know about it, everybody makes mistakes and is wrong sometimes, but there are different ways of saying things. @@nofilterneito Nothing against the English version, but I just find Hikari (The original Japanese title which translates to Light, and its lyrics) far more fitting especially in the main chorus. Also the rhythm and beat of the original match the instrumental/orchestral version to a T.

No character will satisfy everyone, but if you're looking for a "best" character to finish on, the most highly requested character among fans worldwide is probably a safe bet.

Sora's whole purpose as a character is to be a shining beacon in the darkness, to uplift when sadness seems so overwhelming. So isn't it painfully perfect that, while we all prepare for the wild ride of Smash Ultimate to end, Sora comes not only to seal that finale, but comfort us and bring us joy at the same time? As much as Doomslayer or Crash or Rayman mean to video games, none of them holds that thematic weight, and none of them could have ended Smash as perfectly as Sora. Thank you, Sakurai

You know what felt so NICE about this? It wasn't just another character coming in with GUNS BLAZING. RARING to fight. It was just....It was just......sigh. It was Sora coming home and Mario giving him a handshake to welcome him as part of the Smash crew was the perfect note to end on. A welcome home party, rather than "FIGHT".

I had a similar feeling. If you followed Smash since the beginning over 20 years ago, Smash was always about imagination. How we use our imagination when we play with toys. The Smash flame going out, is the imagination finally coming to an end, and it is time to put away the toys. The last flame represented that the imagination is not over yet. There is still a little bit more. Sora and Kingdom Hearts represents that same imagination energy so well. It is fitting that they were able to end it on Sora.

Fortnite's character crossovers feel like cash grabs by a company while Smash feels like a celebration of gaming. That's why it's loved by all because at the the end of the day, Sakurai is just a gamer like all of us. I hope he gets a good long rest after all this.

Fortnight is all about micro transactions though, cuz the base game is free, so they would of course release a bunch of stuff to get people to throw their money at them. Smash is a full $60 game and their DLCs are more limited so it definitely has a different feel to it. They don’t NEED the extra money, it’s just something nice to add for the fans that want it.

@@temjinAMG it really is though, if u dont like then its just not for u, for those n im sure theres a lot, that played the game since its start point or picked up the game from 1, back then most games were purely enjoyable because it was new, ur new to the game life so u enjoy a lot of it because ur ignorant, but kh is more built upon feelings n story, it is a gd game n explaining it would b 2 long, but those that look at these games from when it was first aired, they feel connected to their childhood n thats wat makes them enjoy it more, n im sure its with everygame not just kh, so to those that love kh n got sora im hella happy for them, cuz they get to see their childhood game character make a stage on the biggest game collab ive seen

Wood, I've never ever cried for a reveal, but this was the first time I've shed a couple tears. Sephiroth was cool, but sora... Sora has been a major part of me since back when I was six. Smash bros has been a major part of me since brawl. I won my switch through a competition for ultimate, and to see my favorite game character get into smash? Yeah, I cried.

This is definitely a Bittersweet moment for smash,I been playing all them from the start of the 64 one and up to ultimate, love every minute I play of them and I had a hunch it was going to be Sora and I'm excited to play the KH games on my switch and I'm looking forward to giving Sora a go on Ultimate!

Happy with the choice. I grew up with Sora. In 2002 kingdom hearts came out 2 days after my birthday. I was in the 6th grade. I am now 31 years old 😆. This game has bought a lot of tears and friends together. I will forever be grateful to such a franchise plot-holes and all 😆.

Kingdom Hearts, for me, has always been a huge part of my life. its one of the first games I truly connected with, and I was excited for every new game I could find. Watching Sora, Riku, Kairi, Roxas, Ventus, and all of the crazy characters as I struggled through the game was always amazing for me. Sadly, I had given up hope for Sora to ever come to smash despite really wanting him too and plus I had to work during the live stream. On a break I scrolled through the news articles on google and found Sora was in smash as one of the first headlines. I checked out the actual trailer after work but it felt empty since I already knew he was in it. But i'm still really happy hes in the game, and of course very happy the games are coming to switch at long last.

im no smash player so its coming from a guy like that, but i feel a bit weird about the whole concept. first it was just nintendo characters. now almost every original nintendo character is in and plenty of offbrand as well. but the balance is weird and a lot of famous characters are missing. i know it doesnt work like that but still they should somehow put in a couple of more like crash badicoot and master chief and rayman ( is pacman there ?? ) also some indie stuffs like hollow knight or not so indie ori. even characters like klonoa are exist and the list is so long. abe's exodus, doom guy ( which would go well with samus and master chief ), maybe a family friendly mortal kombat as well ( raiden forexmpl ) or prince from persia heck there are lost vikings and lemmings as well we can go back so far...

From this point forward, I hope Smash exists as a service type model. At this point, I would hate to lose any character (except Steve), so I think something like that would allow them to keep licenses longer, though I'm not sure of all the pros and cons of it.

Tough luck, Sakurai already said ultimate will be the only smash with this big roster of characters. So expect the next smash to have half the cast or a little more.

Thanks Wood for having one of the best overall views of this. I see a lot of discourse and pointing out how significant KH is in Japan and in the West is a huge point most people are missing. Selfishly, my wife walked down the aisle to an orchestral version of dearly beloved and this just feels right for my childhood self playing KH1.

Honestly, I'm not a big Smash fan. Haven't played it in over 2 years. I am a big Kingdom Hearts fan, though. This gives me a reason to play Smash again.

Honestly. I love that it's Sora I love the fact it's truly a poetic end to an amazing ride for this game. Because all of the symbolism behind kingdom hearts and all of the symbolism behind smash bros. Just screams that the idea is the memory and the characters will always go on.

It was probably still in development since Disney has the majority licensing rights to Kingdom Hearts. The amibo of Sora will likely be showcased at a bigger event like The 20th Anniversary Fan presentation Square Enix and Disney will be hosting next year. Other viable options is we won’t be able to see it until either the video game awards in November for the upcoming Xmas season or in March -April for the next E3 of 2022 being an in person and online hybrid event.

Kingdom hearts is one of my favourite franchises ever, in fact KH3 was the only game to ever make me truly cry at the ending, so you can imagine my reaction to Sora getting added to another of my favourite franchises of all time

Literally anytime I hear music or sounds or see visuals from or remind me of kingdom hearts I get the chills. Its literally my childhood and so nostalgic for me and it helps that its such a good series.

Sora was wanted by so many people since Brawl, he upsets the least amount of people and he is an icon of gaming he is the absolute perfect character to end on (And a bonus certain scenes in his reveal trailer fit with “Lifelight” the theme of ultimate)

Tbh I'm not an avid smash player (I gave my copy to my little brother) and I tried to get into kingdom hearts but it wasn't my bread and butter but just seeing this and seeing how this game brings everyone together all these people and companies makes me emotional honestly. I just love seeing people passionate for the things they love and when I actually watched this live with you (heyo) I had the biggest smile on my face just knowing how many people came together to make this happen and how many people are going to come together because of this.

The distant sparks called to a past still unnamed. Back then we were looking to this moment. where we finally know the past. Sora always seemed to me like he walked a fine line between video game character and Disney character, so the fact that he made it into Smash was something I didn't expect at all. That said, I'm happy he made it in (even though something's telling me that, if another Smash game gets announced, the cry for Goku will be louder than ever).

I've never played any KH games. I know a lot about it from friends and general word of mouth in the gaming community, and personally being a fan of Final Fantasy, I have that bit of connection to KH, but very little, and generally didn't care much for it. That being said, I teared up at Sora's announcement, I felt the impact this had on the community and how happy all the fans who wanted him must've been, and like you said, what his inclusion means to the fandom. It was the perfect ending to Ultimate, they couldn't have picked a better last character. Hats off to Sakurai and the Smash Ultimate team!

You have no idea how livid it made me to hear my friend whine about Sora being in the game and wishing it was Master Chief. I think he's the perfect end point for the DLC and Smash as a whole for what he represents. A crossover to end all crossovers and the fact that Sakurai could even get past the legal hellscape that is Disney AND Square Enix to get Sora into the game.

this has been the best reveal in the history for me. 2nd was the reveal for Joker. Best thing everything was so fitting. - The build up on the start seeing a fire again. (everyone was like another fire emblem character???) was so good. - The music that was used which has been suiting for people to go emotional. - the relief sakurai when he showed off the poster and mentioned how hard the team went thru. Man, it’s crazy. Sora has been with me since I was 5, and KH1 literally helped me learn English from the many many times I’ve played it. It’s so awesome seeing him essentially enter the video game hall of fame: Smash. I am beyond happy right now :)

I think Sora is good character to end Ultimate. Hopefully if there is a next smash as Crash and/or Spyro they'd be a good fit but not gonna be upset about it

@@statesminds true, hopefully we get to see a new smash game. We need Sony to rep a character too for sure! Any one of Ratchet and clank, Sly Cooper, or Jak and Daxter would all be interesting additions. I know Crash is but isn't Spyro also Sony? Id say Crash is the best fit as far as being the "bigger" gaming icon. Spyro would be so damn cool though! Oh and not to mention Sakurai deserves a break for sure lol.

I got into gaming when I was 3 by playing kh1. It was so exciting to me and was my favorite thing to do. I had been waiting for Sora since the 1st dlc character and had kinda lost hope so his reveal made me very very happy and nostalgic. I am really grateful to Sakurai for making it happen

Am so happy, I love the KH franchise. Sora is finally here. 😭 But I beat there was a big fight with Disney to get sora in here While I agree that I wish KH was coming to switch normally, am still glad it's finally on the switch at all. I never thought that was going to happen.

I also went to a video easy in my hometown from Victoria. The memories of picking up smash bros, or if they didn't have it then renting a different N64 game i loved and playing that will be one i cherish forever
