I worked at Rocawear as a designer... Dame used to walk around the office EVERY NIGHT asking EVERYONE if they were ok... One day, one of the designers said "NO" and explained why. Dame held on to that... On the next meeting (with everyone, directors, partners... etc.) , HE STOPPED THE MEETING and said... "We're not moving until my man is taken care of!!!!"... Dame is a solid dude!!!! (pause)
I am sure Dame was a solid guy ...at some point way back in the day. But money, mistakes and mismanagement will change anyone if you don't learn from the lessons in each. I challenge you to find a clip or quote where Dame holds himself accountable for any mistakes he made that don't indirectly put the blame on someone else for taking advantage of him. He somewhat tried to do it to get back in Jay's good grace but when he saw it wasn't working he went back to his old self.
I meet Dame at battery park city on time. He was with his daughter and I was with mine at the play ground. We had a short conversation but at no time he was like “oh you know who I’am”. I salute this man he fought hard for roc a fella to get there credit.
@@camron1053 Cam yes Dame was definitely one of the chief architects of the Roc and deserves credit for sho, and yes Jay was moving crazy funny with you and several others for whatever reason. But today in 2021 ( I am sure you as a successful businessman can appreciate) it's all about relationships. All that bravado and ra ra only gets you ostracized bro. This is the decade of teamwork. It feels like TODAY Dame is a man on his own island drinking his own koolaid.
@@reapov2665 poor guy tricked off his money to his ex wife and the gun is shinny just no bullets to fire anything meaning projects. Jay z hated his guts cuz he spend like a drunken sailor and was a drama queen not a real biz man
@@mh-df6xk Kanye was already Kanye, but I think meeting Dame turned him up even more, to see someone so much like him that was winning on a major level. But I agree with u too, I’m sure he learned alottttt from Dame too 💯💯
Kanye is a rare breed.. yes my guy dame taught him!! But were dame got arrogant at, Kanye didn’t!! It’s why Kanye is the only true businessman that performs music!! He humbled himself and ascertained the knowledge in his field of business! He even took interning gigs even tho he was already a millionaire!! The difference is dame would’ve stated I don’t need to learn that shit, I already know😂🤣 dame knows the business side of music better than anyone!! But other fields he’s a novice!! Personally they’re kindred spirits! Kanye isn’t a brand ambassador like jay, Dre, diddy, magic Johnson etc.. he actually started and owns his Yeezy brand 💯% which is why he’s the only true billionaire in hip hop!! The rest have a white guy that owns them always around! Puppets who will market an already established company and receive 5%!! Dame and ye will attack whites for blacks jay will attack blacks for whites.. Stephen from django
I agree, but let’s not act like him knowing Jay-z didn’t help him out A LOT though and let’s be real, most small businesses fail no matter how hard you work at keeping them alive. Unless you have a genius idea or an innovative invention that you’re putting all your energy and heart into, it’s very hard to make it as an entrepreneur. Especially since if you fail once, you’re usually in such a deep financial hole that it’s borderline impossible to ever become an entrepreneur ever again. Now their are some safe start ups that are usually fool proof like liquor stores if you’re in a state that requires liquor licenses, investing in real estate in up and coming neighborhoods or reselling expensive products like Supreme online that you got for retail price but they’re not very fun start ups/entrepreneurial ideas that most people are willing to put their all into and your income ceiling doing those things are usually pretty low (I’m talking like 50-70k per year profit for you, unless you’ve got millions of dollars to put into that idea from day 1). The sad reality is people would rather go to the Walmart’s/Amazon’s/McDonald’s of the world than spend the extra dollar to help a start up company who really needs your business. If you truly believe in your idea, I definitely recommend starting a company but if you’re doing that MAKE SURE you have enough time, heart, energy and money to have the company looking legitimate from day 1 because life is all about first impressions sadly. Especially if you’re a minority. I will say though, make sure the start up company is something you’ve been trying to do FOR YEARS, because if the reason you’re starting something up is because you just got into, for example, cooking 1 year ago, you may fail if you fall out of love with it in 2-3 years. Also, make sure your company offers something different than the competition or else you won’t stand out and if you don’t stand out, people probably won’t come back.
Jay both knows and is on record saying this as well. This is one reason why I've always shook my head in confusion and disgust when heading thos who--despite it being 10, 15, 20, 25 yeats later, so many are dead set that Dame is to blame and must damned for stopping the Roc-A-Fella party by not cowtowing and towing that devil's line the way Jay did; they NEED Damon to be the loser for some toxic reason. There is, AND ALWAYS HAS BEEN, more to Damon than Jay and Roc-A-Fella--he's always been better-looking too, so. Black People gotta stop needing a hero to worship--an entertainer to distract and anesthetize them from their misery: they have too bad a track record when it comes to selecting who those back-stabbing heroes are. Dame has been and is proving that he cares about Black People prospering AS A COLLECTIVE--NOT. JUST. ONE. NIGGA. FLEXIN'. ON. OTHER. NIGGAS.
If Dame was thinking about himself, he would be a billionaire. His mistake was trusting people. He could have shafted them with contracts, he wanted everyone to be equal. The good people always lose in that world.
Dame was thinking about himself and thats the reason he loss everything. It would have taken him forever to make a billion and perhaps even not. He would had to split profits of any rapper he signed many ways. Their is no real big money in rap reason why investment is necessary. Name one rapper that made 1 billion off a rap album. Jay trusted Dame. Without Jay Dame would have not made the money he did. And yes during a certain period in time Jay needed Dame. But how long are you going to keep allowing someone to eat off you when they not doing anything for you. How long do you allow someone to go behind your back and make decisions with out including your partners. Or how about borrowing money without asking from the company and using it to fund your own business. Dame clearly was only thinking about himself. Jay became a billionaire once he broke free from the freeloaders and deadweight. Dame is delusional. Jay started Roc nation and signed artists offering them better contracts with development and management so that they to can be successful. Had Dame been 100 perhaps he to would have become a billion. And maybe, just maybe he might have been invited to the roc nation brunch.
@Akeem Hudson akeem, im not going to argue over your opinion. I respect it. If you reread my comments I believe I put in at some point Jay needed dame. I think you should also look at what made jay a billionaire. His investments!!! Signed artists were only a small contribution to becoming. Jay, dame and biggs funded ROC and from what looks to be Jay may have been the one who forked over majority of the funds. Earning him more rights, privilege stakes and funds in ROC. But this is only speculation. Again as an investigator you work off of what information is available. You never heard Biggs much nor Jay. This speaks volumes. I would assume that both Jay and Biggs allowed Dame to over see the management and call shots because he knew more about that during the time of signed agreement. Jay only got smarter and although people loved dame no corporation or higher up in the industry wanted to work with him. This is very dangerous. Jay knew this so he cut ties with dame not just because of this but many other factors. And if Dame is somewhere here creeping in the comments section im sure he know these are facts beyond reasonable doubt no pun intended. If you go back to Jay old album and probably not one of jays best called Kingdom come. A song called "Dig a hole" will explain a bit. You really have to listen and decipher its words as jay used some encrypted messages. Dame needed jay to survive. He is without jay and look who has won. When you own a company you are supposed to maintain the highest level of integrity. Dame miss used that and the consequence was fatal. My best!
Finally, somebody dat actually kno how to conduct a interview and not just askin corny annoyin old questions dat nobody care about.. I gotta subscribe fam salute 💯💯
@@12121212293 you say that like it’s a bad thing. Many people have no great ideas, he’s been a part of something legendary that will stand the test of time. 90% of the world population cannot say that.
I agree. However there are plenty of talented people that never make it big because they lack hustle or lack hustlers on they side/team, going hard on their behalf.
One of the realest and informative interviews to date ... Shot out to Dame for keeping it 💯 and the interviewer doing a great job for asking all the right questions...salute ✊🏾
He's a man that never had to bend the knee to eat. Meanwhile some of the people that he's worked with sought the approval of many bosses to eat. So therefore those people act accordingly as subservient servants.
David, another great interview! Dame is the man. He's right. We need to reach success and help others reach success. We should want to see each other succeed!
I get why you say that, but I mean it's not new, Damon is a man. And men are people, right? People get hurt, hurt, make mistakes, need to figure shit out out, grow, and learn. He is on some other greatness shit now.
