They say Dame was using company money to start other ventures without his partners. That’s a big problem. They say Dame was using the Company account like it was his personal. If you listen to the end of the black album on the last track, Jay Z called out Dame and said “Dame, remember when you was keeping all the books, you had that fucked up ass handwriting and shit, your accounting was crazy wrong, but we figured it out”. Jay just sat back and played chess, he was always paying attention, just not acting like he was.
Quoted wrong Hov didn’t say this bruh. His exact words at the end of “My 1st Song” are as follows Dame, whattup! Robbing the bank Niggas thought we was crazy, man, remember uhh You had that fucked up ass handwriting You was writing all the numbers that we was spending down For the videos we was doing ourselves (Ski, whattup? Original Flavor in the house) Your accounting was crazy wrong and shit But we still put it together This is him rifting and reminiscing on the song’s outro which makes sense since the Black Album was supposed to be his retirement from rap.
It took me so long to watch this video because I just knew this British guy would not know shit he was talking about, and after watching I have to eat my words because this is the absolute most detailed and accurate account of what happened with Rocafella Records. This guy really took his time to do research and also pay attention to details. I’m very impressed. You definitely get a subscription from me.
@@damienright8032 he assumed he wouldn't know shit about rap because he was white and british , so he is racist and xenophobic. And btw , white isn't a race
@@allindbz typically a British white person wouldn’t know anything about this shit so no it’s not racist I’m pretty sure even regular whites feel the same so stfu tryna argue
I love Jay Z but if you’re saying he got to his goat level by being a “good” person then you’re just as fooled as legendary business moguls want folks to think.
lmao the "skill" is appearing to be a good person while being a ruthless cutthroat. i'm not saying that's jay but american capitalism definitely does not reward being good or nice. there may be some examples of people like that but they are the rare exception to the rule.
@@napatora easy to work with doesn’t mean good or nice. It just means you don’t make the job more difficult than it needs to be and you don’t hinder the process of making money. Jay didn’t hinder the process and this when they needed a new guy running the label, they chose Jay.
@@lmtrey5 I’m pretty sure that’s not what he meant. Regardless it’s just common sense, who do you think was easier to do business with? Dame or Jay? Business is the numbers is very important obviously but most millionaires have options. Meaning if they can potentially make money but have to deal with a dame.. most would just find another deal
Shlomo Jewdog Rabbi Barksteinbergovitz bro you just proved that dick heads point ignore negative energy and act like it don’t exist and just move on let niggas think what they wanna think if you know you have it you have that’s all that matters
@j t it has nothing to do with knowledge in this instance. It's all bs when speaking about other people. I agree with your points regarding knowledge. But when speaking on other people and gossipy situations.. my original cliche applies...
Want to learn how to go broke 101? Act like Dame in 1:04 I once heard a wise man who said: “If you don’t respect a penny, you don’t deserve a dollar!” And that’s the principle I’ve been living by ever since!
you idiot, they were interfering with his business. Respect goes two ways and thats not saying Dame had any for them in the first so it was bound to go down at some point. His mistake was not addressing the issue the right way
@@nosmoke6556 how can the talent be shady man people love dame for the same reason they hate diddy these guys leech of talent and that’s a fact when people leave them they are successful
I mean how did he not do some shady shit. Are y’all that blind? Dame and Biggs backed Jay when no one else would. They put up the money and started the label. There’s no Jay without dame and there’s no dame without Jay. Jay wasn’t shady for branching out on his own. Jay was shady for going behind his brothers back and not letting him know the deal. Meanwhile dame is going in board rooms and yelling at people because he thinks they’re having meetings for his artist behind his back. Dame really looked like a fool while jay knew what was going on the whole time. That’s what’s foul. You don’t let your homie make an ass of himself like that. This all could have been prevented if jay was straight up.
@@QuaIityContent any artist that get signed that get signed by a label and gets an advance it means the label is investing in them when they are nobodies so does that mean they should own everything the make and have a lifetime contract this is exactly what diddy does to his bad boy artist he robs them then tells them I believed in you when no one else did suge knight and Birdman play from the same book as well
At 12:34 Dame is sitting on a barber chair and there is a guy with a comb making believe he is combing Dame's hair. But, Dame is bald. He has NO HAIR. HAHAAAAAA !!!
I interviewed Jay-Z in Stockholm 1996 and Damon destroyed the interview by talking all the time. He answered questions for Jay-Z and semi-changed his answers until Jay-Z really looked ashamed….
Dame seen how big Jayz was getting and couldn't handle how successful Jayz was becoming and seen him as competition...... But his ego and pride just kept getting in the way of making the best logical decisions.
He literally got the name of Roc-A-Fella's history wrong. It was a hustler in NY. That's why Nas said "Roc A Fella died of AIDS, that was the end of his chapter. That's the guy you chose to name your company after?"
John D. Rockerfella and his son were both the riches men in the world. What does “dying of aids” have to do with Jay Z’s company. It was about the business not his personal life.
But hes still got more money than you me an everyone commenting on this hating ass post .. I respect Dame even though I feel he has wasted a lot of his talent 💯
That's not what Jay has actually said about Damon though, he knew what Damon was like way before Wt males who are in the business of Black humiliation were in the room.
I think Bleek intentionally did that to piss off Dame. Dame was going at everyone on those tours and he got got. Then that big dummy went on to kill his businesses.
Dame dash, suge knight and irv gotti 3 dudes with over inflated egos who NEVER realised they weren't the golden goose. Jay z, dre and 50 cent, keep doing your thing.
Revenant no.....its the fact dame dash a dipshit that makes it ok.....marrying a fuckin intern at YOUR company? Thats some simple jack shit Dame should of composed himself, disregarded women and aquired funds.
Dash is his own worst enemy. His ego won’t let him admit that he wasn’t as good a businessman as he thought. Watched too many gangster movies as a kid and thinks he can negotiate multi million dollar deals in white tees and sweat suits. He’s a clown.
But the funny thing is when he posts clips of his cheesy movies on Instagram the comments are 90% positive. Peolwl bigging up his films and his business sense. Someone above said Dame is major to hood people and I think they are right.
Reality is he did put together multimillion dollar deals in t-shirts an Air Force one's You can't knock that he helped build a half billion dollar company that's facts He'll always be a legend for what he put together they changed the game
Christopher Simmons No doubt about it. He definitely built a brand but his ego got in the way and he couldn’t accept that Jay was shining more than him. Don’t get me wrong. Jay is shady too. He was just smarter about it. No one gets out without getting dirty.
Dame Dash kept it real with me. About publishing the dismantling of the label and ownership. Much respect to him not taking advantage of a new artist like other CEOs tried to do
Yo Ross this was an amazing breakdown of what happened and a very comprehensive understanding of how everything went down. I pieced all this together through research but this is GREAT! I’m a businessman so I appreciate this! Thank you 🙏🏾
@@carloslosamoore1 you are the clown ass who is obviously incapable of applying critical thinking. Everyone has a boss. Everyone has to rely on someone, or group for income. Whether it be a board of directors, investors, customers, etc. Think beyond the surface clown.
I think he was just misunderstood. He was more about taking the long route and investing their product and brand to the culture. Whereas those around him were sprinting to get rich by selling to mainstream media. Idk what really happened because I wasnt there but just an educated guess.
@@kevionthomas5984 I admire what he accomplished. The brother has a gift and it is clear. But we cannot excuse abhorrent behavior. The two are not mutually exclusive. Nah mean? He is both repugnant and widely creative from a business perspective; the latter doesn't grant him a pass. Chill Dame, be humble.
Mr. CYP yes they do. No matter how big your business is your customers are the people you get money from and the government are the ones who benefit from you. No matter how strong you are, you can never be strong enough to run everything around you.
Dame seems like the type of dude that will mess something up but blame everyone except himself and that’s a dangerous person to be around in my opinion
Cris Martinez they settled their differences. It happens in business all the time. Currensy just did an interview awhile ago where he said they are still cool
There's something about JayZ that sets him apart. He's like a business man who happens to rap and enjoy HipHop culture... Everyone else is a rapper who wants to play corporate and falls somewhere along the way... A well deserved billion Mr. Carter.
This video was actually Damn near perfect!!! I've posted & said this numerous times, Dame Dash is 50/50. 50% of what he says is Powerful & Motivational the other 50% is Garbage!!! All the people giving this a thumbs down are the people who don't believe fire is hot or water is wet. Figure out how to see or get your hands on "International Grizzly". It's a documentary that Dame had Choke No Joke shoot & direct (which Choke NEVER got paid for, which is why he's been dissing Dame for over 10 year's now). The DVD is basically 2 part's the 1st 80% is Dame & Biggs blowing tons of Roc - A-Fella $$$ all over Europe with a bunch of flunkies they took with them. Dame claims they are in Europe to expand the Roc-A-Fella & Rocawear brand. You can tell Jay is about to leave because they get a call about Jay recording Me & My Girlfriend with Beyonce they knew nothing about. Later after the break up Dame refuses to mention Rocawear at all & is wearing his "CEO" clothing line. Jay made the right BU$INE$$ move & even Biggs has NO problem with Jay & done business with him since he came home!!!!
Am I the only one that always thought Jay just flat-out snaked & screwed Dame over out of pure greed & selfishness? Maybe cuz I was like 4yrs old when all this happened? But yo after watching this...Dame has/had a massive inferiority complex e.g. his insatiable desire to flaunt weath & "a$$hole" demeanor. Real talk, I wouldn't wanna be in business w that dude either. And counting the 2000s lawsuit settlement, Dame got approx 40-45mil in late-1990s money (inflation adjusted probably 60-70min in 2022 money), PLUS owning (most likely, seems like) at least 50% of the masters to Reasonable Doubt -- which is STILL Hov's most classic album even 26 years and 10+ albums later. Forgive me if I don't shed any tears for Dame's woes and misfortunes. Jay owes him nothing & Dame maybe didn't receive the *full* buyout value commensurate to his ownership stake & intellectual property ... but I'd say he got at least 60-70% of it. And that's just business right there, that shit happens every day across the globe- someone getting shorted 20-25% based on poor negotiation or lack of functional leverage or even just sheer stupidity/greed. Long story short, this vid completely switched this preconceived idea I had of the situation. Honestly sounded like Jay was just done w him, and not even inna "im goin screw you over n take everything" kinda way... moreso inna "Yo I can't even talk to this MF anymore. Call the lawyers, let's figure out what we gotta do & how we gotta split this pie up, and let's get it done and gtfoh & away from this arrogant lunatic.. and If Dame call looking for me, just tell him I'm in London or some sh*t" kinda vibe
Dame is his own worse enemy he treated so many people like shit! He thought he could act like he was better then other people especially people that wasn't as successful. I believe Jay Z got tired of how Dame was representing him and how he treated people reflected Jay I think Jay realized that Dame wasn't as business smart as him and he could go way further on his own then his self.
Leave her alone..with her fine self!..none of us know shit as to what exactly happened but i do know as long as that bitch ass lyor cohen is involved theres alot of stealing going on so with that said theres no way to know exactly what anything is...live yr life not theirs...
I wish they’d just squash the beef. They just grew apart. I see both sides of it equally. I see how Dame feels betrayed but I also see how Jay Z was growing up seeing the big picture. Can’t be mad at either of them
Regardless of his actions, both Dame and Biggs will and should always have a bad taste in their mouths about the way in which jay went about dissolving the label without saying anything. Not excusing dames faults or saying jay is a snake but seeing that everyone says that they were friends I can understand how everyone could take this whole thing personally as well as having things change so much financially. While we celebrate Jay leaving with complete ownership, they left with only one master of the whole catalog
My thing is that nobody talks about is Dame was stealing company money out of Rocafella to fund his own personal projects that had nothing to do with Jay and Jay got wind of it through one of the reps at Rocafella, that's how all this started, so I dont see how Jay is wrong in any way period, but not only that, how could Jay be wrong for just wanting to leave somebody if he felt he was out growing a guy, dont he have that right to say I dont want to stay in this environment? So with the fact that Dame was stealing and yelling at everybody he came into contact with, because he felt he was the smartest and everybody was beneath him, that's how Dame thinks...
CD Williams you literally just agreed with me. They kept the masters because they are real hustlers who couldn’t walk away empty handed. But they were NOT happy with jay leaving the way he did. Don’t play yourself fam
say what u want but dame brought cam/dipset to the roc and made them more than jay.. took a chance on kanye.. dude shouldnt be dismissed because hes loud
Especially if that's your boy that got you to where you're at... I could never get 1 over somebody who helped me with my dreams. Jay a backstabber and a fraud.
@@aryaxz2255 If you're in a business partnership you suppose to be in constant communication with each other to finalize deals. Jay had beef with Cam at the time and Dame puts him and Dipset in a video and wanted him to be VP. You straighten it out with your associate first even if it's for the greater good. That's what a partnership is, not go behind ones back
@@coinkidink9997 Dame was spending the company money like crazy to a point Jay had to put a halt to everything and let him know all expenses come thru him first. Between yelling and screaming as well as belittling ppl in meetings, restaurants, parties, Jay had enough of it. There comes a time in ones life you have to show professionalism and class. Dame could have been sharing billions with Jay.
wow, your amazing. you are definitely made for this, all your shows are informative and unbiased. plus hella funny. the cream rises to the top. at the start i noticed he was referring to jay as his artist, i was like, that’s disrespectful. he probably heard about the amazing talent and tried to befriend jay into partnering, because he probably knew jay was headed to the top. along with disrespecting all the people of the by talking shit about they nothing cause they ain’t a boss. it not the money that makes you like that, it’s what you been. lots of people have money, and they don’t think bad or look down on anyone. because they don’t judge by money, they judge by if your a good person or not. money don’t make you shit, and without out jay-z i’m sure he would have never been as successful as he was. that makes me realize that Jay-z making ways to benefit artist and helping the industry is for real, he’s not just a rapper, he was a smart man that analyze the business and then made his moves after testing the waters and got with people that were in line with his desires and made it happen. some people were holding him back, he had to do what’s best for him. it’s sad, because at the end of the day, he seems like someone that would have been happy to keep them all paid and successful, but some people weren’t humble, kind, appreciative, and definitely didn’t deserve to be holding hands with him on the way to the top.
I'd love to see a full in-depth breakdown of the Jay v Cam feud. There's so much info out there about it, but I've never seen it done in your style where you go through the whole beef in order with every little detail. I'm sure there a ton of bars from Jay about Cam that I've missed.
@@godloveszaza yeah, what he said on Drink Champs was def the most in-depth I’ve hear anyone talk about it in one sitting, but that’s his side of the story (as it should be, he was the one being interviewed). I’m talking about something like what TLR does and goes all the way in with the different perspectives and info that’s out there. Something from an outside perspective.
@@rotweilerscholar1181 If we are judging dame by average mediocre standards then yea at 29 million he doing more than the average person. If you hold him to a higher standard due to how long he has been in the game he got shafted with that 29 million dollar deal. Let's keep it real. I'll always root for my brothas to succeed but at the end of the day there was no growth with dame dash which is why he is in the position he is today. Still doing better than most people but not considering how long he been in the game and comparing him to his contemporaries. Jay put in the work and grew as a businessman. Keep it real and hold dame to a higher standard.
