Some things you might be playing wrong (hard to tell from your wording): 1) If a spot is full, you cannot move a die if it would end up in that space (unless it's your die or the white die and you pay to move it more spaces). You don't just go to the next space. 2) In the advanced mode, you don't "get another flag that's now available" by putting a workshop on a white space. It's pretty much the opposite. Those flags can be used normally and you can't build a workshop on a white space unless its flag has been used. 3) You only choose one of the 2 bonuses to use for the white die. You don't get both.
Small rules mistake around 3:10. If the area the die would move to is full, you just cannot make that move. Tom show the die automatically skipping to the next empty region, which does not happen. You can still of course pay 1 ruble to move an extra space if the die is in your player color, or if it is the white die. But otherwise, the move is just illegal if the spot the die would land is full.
This is what I thought, too. But also it is still innovative, having the dice pool shared instead of each player having their own dice, and also only being able to move it the pip value of the die.
There's also recognition penalties for players who claimed a part of the cathedral if another player finishes building a part above them before they did
Money's not "extremely tight", because of the unlimited free action to trade prestige for money. Timing things to where this costs you the minimum is really important.
This game might need a timer so that people doesn't sit and calculate all the options for all the moves. As that will slow the game down to much. So give each player maybe a minute to make their move, and if not they just have to move a die quick. Or something else. People shouldn't be able to sit and count everything, it will be more fun that way.
This game looks interesting! Now...I’d like to address the imitation Tom in the video. From what I know of real Tom, I’m not sure he would wear a hat from the DC universe...
One day, euro games won't be about gathering resources and completing objective cards to score points. I hope. Being mainly a euro gamer, I'm a little fed up of these.
