Trapped at the bottom of the ocean and running out of oxygen-this is the fear that consumed the world for four days as an exhaustive search scoured the ocean for a missing submersible. But as the public prayed for a miracle and prepared for the worst, the spiritual faux pas at the core of the expedition, the shady history of the company behind the submersible, and the CEO’s risk-taking reputation . . . All pointed to one ultimate conclusion, while some believed it served as a distraction from the truth. Let’s take a look at the eerie history and theories surrounding the Titan submersible.

As someone who went to 6flags and water parks as a distraction when my dad died I kinda relate to the step kid, its just an unhealthy way to bury pain and put it aside instead of working through it and actually grieving
@Ponderosa518

I had a student come to class even though her mother had died the day before. It’s not necessarily unhealthy, for many people going forward with plans and activities helps them process the stages of grief, and makes the initial shock easier to cope with.

@sarah259 I didn't do normal things, instead people made sure I got to do fun stuff I usually didn't get to do. I was constantly with my friends, I was going to amusement parks, and getting to do all kinds of activities. I was 14, I didn't actually start grieving till I was 18-19. I'm now almost 23 and have a kid of my own. For me it wasn't sticking to a plan, it was putting a barbie bandaid on something that needed stitches, I hope that's not what that guy is doing. He probably bought the tickets months ago and was excited for it and thought it could give him a couple hours of stress relief. I hope the families of these people are doing okay. Rich or not, losing a loved one is far fr easy.

No one should presume to tell anyone how to behave during a death, because kids are going to still run and play. That said, the fool kid was not in a grief stage yet. He was in a crisis. When adults are in a crisis, they stay together and comfort each other while little boys play. The fool kid was immature and did not understand that he needed to be with his family until the crisis was resolved. When the sun was found and everyone was known to be dead, it was perfectly okay for him to go to a concert. But he’s an immature child who doesn’t take his responsibilities in a crisis. Boys like that are the same kind who drop their wives off at the hospital and go to a concert when their kids are being born. They don’t understand what it means to be in a family crisis, they don’t care, and they leave it to the adult women to take care of. The fool kid probably never saw his stepfather and didn’t give a rip.

Indeed; the difference between the vacuum of space and the inside of a rocket at normal pressure is a mere 1 Bar. And as the experimental Bigby Inflatable Habitats proved, you don't even need metal for all the spaceship! For parts that require strength, carbon fibre needs to be laid in alternating crosswise sections. The way they made the Titan's hull was to simply wind carbon fibre into a cylinder, making it susceptible to compression. There's a reason all other submersible passenger/pilot cabins are spherical; it's the strongest shape against external pressure - a cylinder is far weaker.
@terryarmbruster9719
@terryarmbruster9719 11 месяцев назад
Actually the forces on lots of the parts as it goes into space is far hgjher than 5000 psi but those forces are not coming in from all directions or going out in high amounts. Hence whatever parts get that kind of force are designed for that. Can't compare sub to space station but instead the rocket ship gets it there. Best example of a pressure coming in that covers ship is reentry. Lol those hear mg tiles there because of frictional pressure. Lol it registers in the 100ks psi but its mostly frictional and one sided. Instead of imploding at that speed if not heat protected you'd burn into a crispy cinder well under a second if not ripped apart faster. Red bull jumper suit was way more for friction and reentry pressure than coldness of height. Lol think of putting your face out of window when in car lol. That's only highway speed not fifty times that

At first the video game controller threw me for a loop as well, but most experts have said that that’s the least of the problems that they had, and in fact, it’s not unheard of and actually is implemented in pretty hi tech, regulated, military, space, and underwater vehicles in important and legit operations. The real experts that have spoken on this disaster actually don’t have an issue with the controller…..The unheard of part was the carbon fiber hull and the shoddy construction…

I'm surprised people really latched onto the whole thing of the navy hearing the implosion but letting the search continue. Nobody could've been completely certain, at the time, that what they heard was DEFINITELY the sound of the sub imploding. With retrospect its obvious, but the ocean is always making weird noises. And even if they were 99% sure the sound was the sub imploding, there was still a small chance that the passengers were alive and stuck down there. Better to do the search anyway and find a wreckage, than not do the search and risk the chance that they're abandoned down there alive.
@loisen
@loisen 11 месяцев назад
The navy gave the information about the explosion sound to the search party. The media definitely doesn’t need that information. Everyone who’s saying the opposite should overthink their life.
@Nylak-Otter

@suddenllybah

Yeah, at that point, it is super reasonable to continue searching and not state cause of death, until they have more solid proof.
@immkk1125
@immkk1125 11 месяцев назад
i do not agree. the navy didn’t just detect a random sound and claimed it was it, the sound matched with previous implosion patterns and the area matched that of the whereabouts of the submersible at the time. searching past the times the oxygen runs out is pointless, they would’ve been dead by then, it would’ve been really reckless and puts way more people at risk than the initial number of victims. searching underwater is like a death sentence especially at that depth, plus even if they managed to find the wreckage, the chances of recovering any body parts is slim, so slim that anything you’d manage to find would be a mush of all the people who were on board at best, a few pieces at worst, no one would be recognizable in the least and both cases are absolutely not worth making anyone go through that recovery process and trauma. it’s really not just because the navy said that that the search party stopped, it’s simply not possible to do anything the moment that the oxygen runs out and the wreckage touches the bottom, any attempt at recovering it would be more unethical than just leaving it where it is
@blackdandelion5549
@blackdandelion5549 11 месяцев назад
This is a complicated one. The Navy did hear the noises and they did tell the correct people who were allowed to have such information during the search as this video does not go in the exact order things were released to the public. These are navel acoustic devices and more for "Navy" purposes than use in civilian issues. The US Coast Guard and everyone involved including France sending in their unmanned underwater unit did continue the search until all hope was lost, but certain things, including the Navel info and other mechanics were taken into account, some mentioned in this video. For instance the US Coats Guard has no way to retrieve the vessel if found on the first day. When calls were made, there was not a vessel that could have made any type of rescue dive that was within the 96 hour time frame they had. They were really hoping the ballasts had dropped and the vessel came to the surface because they didn't have any way to retrieve the submersible. Others who do this type of stuff always have another rescue vehicle available within a certain distance/time frame, but the Ocean Gate CEO was not into "Safety" or by his own quote "then don't get out of bed in the morning". You need to also remember that people, especially in the US, do not search without hope and releasing info like "Well, our Navy thinks everyone died because they listen all of the time underwater" would probably not have people looking very hard. Other countries were much more realistic than the US about the likely outcome.

I work Search and Rescue, and my dogs and I specialize in human remains detection and recovery (on mostly dry land, fortunately). Human remains can mean basically anything. My best dog found where a cadaver had been left on the ground for a short period of time after death and then was removed; he could smell the nutrient change in the soil and foliage that responded to the leaking of purge fluid, which is nutrient-dense, after 5+ years. The kid is the only one that has my full sumpathy and prayers. Everyone was worried about air during the 4 day "search" (i believe the government knew from the beginning what the outcome was), yet i reckon everyone believed that they had packed 4 days worth of water for an 8-10 hour trip.

They did know, the US reportedly heard something but they didn’t have the funds or something to look. It happened fast so there was really nothing anyone could do

Plus it wasn’t water they had it was air, they thought there was 4 days worth of air to survive

@@ayelmqo right, but no one ever mentioned that they didn't have enough water. Even if they had four days of air, they didn't have four days of water. They would likely have died of dehydration before running out of air. The cruelest irony.

Water suppy isn't the problem. Air is. They had a 96 hour supply of air. And the Navy knew instantly they were all dead immediately. Simple physics.
@kevinashley478
@kevinashley478 5 месяцев назад
@@RichardBrock-fv1nq yeah, everyone knew they were dead. As for the 96 hours of air, yeah, that definitely puts a clock, of the egg timer variety, on their lifespan, BUT, as far as i know you cannot go 96 hours without water.

Data indicates that a leak in the rear section contaning the motors and electronics occurred early in the decent. The attempts to dump ballast to ascend failed, and could not compensate. Disaster followed. Data also indicates that this occurred in under 2 hours after launch. The following days of hope to save them was in vain.

My guess is that the Titan's viewport blew in. It was certified to a pressure of only 1,300 meters below sea level. Sea water then shot in, compressing the air and all five passengers into a tiny area in the opposite titanium cap which remained intact. I assume that this is the location where "presumed human remains" have been recovered. At the same time the extreme and rapid compression of air into that titanium cap would cause tremendous heat. After that the carbon fiber hull would explode. The result would be one titanium cap without the viewport, one cap with about a half ton of compressed, cooked human mush in it, the landing frame, the outer metal hull which had that fin shape and thousands of tiny carbon fiber shards scattered on the sea floor, which I believe is what has been found. All the metal parts of the sub have been publicly displayed except that rear cap. The landing frame appears to be intact and straight. An implosion of the carbon fiber hull would have pulled the titanium caps inward and bent the landing frame. An implosion would have chopped the passengers into countless tiny shreds which could not be recovered.

If that was the case how would he not know that the glass would b pushed in? They made it to 3000 meters and came back up but in the video it says 4000 meters 27:14

@@IdkFoxii The viewport blew in far too quickly for anyone to react to it.

It might be worthwhile to set up a pressure test rig to determine the failure behavior of such a window under extreme pressure, with an air bubble in the test chamber to at least try to mimic the behavior of a nearly-infinite ocean of water as distinct from the behavior of a smaller test vessel whose pressure is being slowly increased via pump. If the window starts to yield in the latter kind of chamber, its deformation may cause the pressure in the chamber to drop, reducing the rate of deterioration, while the pressure of the ocean would remain high.

If you believe the final communication log, they jettisoned the landing frame prior to catastrophic failure.
