Ulf is Daemon and Viserys half brother. It's fitting that he got his grandmother's dragon. Hugh is Daemon cousin, so it is fitting that he got his grandfather's dragon.
20 years ago I was an assistant mechanic and my boss let me drive a Lamborghini around to test drive it after repairs. Yeah I was definitely Ulf that day. 😂😂
@@seanyoung9014no clearly Rhaenyra sent him to go bait Aemond so he and Vhagar could get jumped by all 3 or 4 dragons. Because he had a saddle which Silverwing didn’t have on before because she didn’t have a rider until Ulf. He was sent over there but is not that good at flying just yet, it was a risk sending him to bait Aemond but the risk almost worked.
Seasmoke: Sniffing out that salty fire, finding his own dawg! Vermithor: Natural selection, dawg gotta be strong and suicidal to ride me! Silverwing: Oh, nice to meet you! You'll do! 😊
Apparently the dragons take the personality of their riders. Alysanne dragon silver wing is more chill while Rhaenyra’s great grandpa is more grumpy 😂😂
we got big dragon queen standing on bidness telling niggas to pu😭 this reminds me of the wire when they send one lil nigga to attract the opps into an ally
Jace has a point. He is clearly a bastard. Everyone talks about it behind their backs. If another bastard dragon rider is there, who even has silver hair, he could have just as a claim to the throne.
@@unc54yes they do. But, so was Rhaenys ( who was half Beratheon) and the Velaryons weren't black in the book. That's why her children parentage was only speculations
@@wolfbane7497dragons don’t care about each other lol Vhagar and Meleys used to ride together all the time and Vhagar showed no hesitation killing Meleys
Vermithor : " THEY KILL MELEYS OH HELL NOOO HEY VHAGAR COME BACK HERE AND GET THIS FADE !!!!!! I GOT TO GET MY GET BACK FOR MELEYS !!!!!!!! YOU GOING TO TRY TO COME TO DRAGONSTONE AND SPIN MY BLOCK!!!!!!!! "
Jace is completely in the right. If a bastard with more Targaryean features challenged him for the throne after Rhaenyra died what would stop them. They didn't honor her being the named heir what's to stop them from not honoring him being the heir.
And what really gives him more legitimacy over them? He's also a bastard but with no Targaryen features and a much smaller dragon. It's not difficult to see how this would cause some major problems in the future
They didn’t honour her because she is a woman. Even if jace had Targaryen features and these other bastards didn’t have dragons, I see no reason why there would honour Rhea’s decisions. She is still a woman.
Vermithor and Silverwing are a mating pair and they are complete opposites, Silverwing was always known as the more friendlier dragons in the books hence she was so chill, and Vermithor has always been a smoke demon. They are basically yin and yang.
Silverwing is the friendliest in targaryen history, she barely kills non targaryens who come across her let alone targaryens ,i love how each dragon has its own unique personality ❤
Jace is right. His legitimacy is not in question because he has a dragon, and now there are two more Targaryen bastards with bigger dragons. You could even argue the Hugh and Ulf have more of a claim then Jace, with Hugh being the son of Saera and Ulf possibly Baelon that makes them the grandsons of King Jaehaerys, and because all three are bastards then it would eb open for any of them to claim the throne after Rhaenyras death and Hugh and Ulf would now have a claim over Jace.
Jace is right, and at the same time the Blacks at this point in the war had little choice on how to proceed, I would have preferred Rhaenyra to do more of a filtering out process, get a sense of a potential rider's personality and history before granting them a dragon, Addam of Hull was the perfect candidate, but not everyone is going to be an Addam of Hull.
Yeah, at first i thought jace was just being an ass, but i saw his point, it does make him look really weak. At the same time, his claim also doesn't mean shit if they can't win this war first. It's a fucked position all around.
What I think Lupa understood and the rest of you missed about Jace: while he is Rhaenyra's named heir, so was Rhaenyra to Viserys. Once his mother is dead, he will need to shore up his support and remove any challenges to his legitimacy. The rumors of his true father weaken his claim to the throne, but there is a perception among the people of Westeros that being a dragonrider makes one closer to a god than a mortal. In short, him having a dragon allows him to dismiss the challenges to his claim; regardless of his hair color, he is clearly a noble dragonlord. But if Rhaenyra shows the world that even the low born--the blacksmiths, shipwrights, and idle drunkards--can claim a dragon, it demystifies the dragons...and makes Jace's ability to ride one less special. It removes his second greatest defense to his claim. Hugh, for example, could argue that his claim is stronger than Jace's, since his mother would have been ahead of Viserys in the line of succession. If Jace has no symbols of legitimacy, it is easier for his claim to be challenged.
But the problem with that is how little it matters right now. If they don't win the war then he won't be heir to shit. He'll be heir to fuck all if they don't win so that is not important rn bc that's not a problem rn, the war is
But if they didn't have more dragon riders he is going to die 100% so it's either a 100% lose situation ( if they have no dragon riders) or a maybe losing situation ( the risk of challengers)
@@CallOutTheChaosWhile he was good, he’s only known for that because his rule was for 50+ years. Greatest King is something that’s always gonna be opinionated. His daughters certainly would disagree with him being the greatest.
@@decariusb71 I think his daughter's opinion is more related to his ability as a father, less than that of a king. The situation with him and daughters reminds me alot of Augustus Caesar and the issues he had with his daughter and family after beating Antony and being the princeps.

@@OBELISK3210 It's interesting. Does this mean Aegon is actually a nice dude at his core? Bc Sunfyre seemed pretty damn chill and friendly. Vhagar and Aemond make sense and match each other and so does Caraxes and Daemon
@@MrFredstt plus Vhagar is a battle hardened old dawg who was ridden by Visenya.. they did some crazy shit in their times.. so Vhagar''s antics make sense even more
@@MrFredstt aegon was just a spoilt child who originally didn’t want the thrown. He was pretty innocent young man in s1. He got shaped into being a usurper/fake king & his environment made him what he is today. I definitely agree dragons reflect on the rider’s character.
I think the dragons get a feel for riders based on their personalities (at least that seems to make sense with a lot of past riders). It very much seems like they all have a preference and choose based on who is compatible with them to bond with. Vermithor was the mount of King Jaeherys and seems to be drawn to fearlessness and strength which is why I think Hugh became his rider. Both him and Jaeherys are unyielding and strong men who are also fatherly. Silverwing is a docile and friendly dragon that's never fought in war - she's motherly and tends to eggs and not aggressive by nature. She pushes Ulf out of the way to make sure her eggs are okay, but I think because of his bumbling about she kinda just saw him as a goofy ass human and harmless so claimed him like a mother would. Basically Vermithor wanted a challenger and Silverwing was like "wow bro, you can't survive by yourself i'm adopting you"
@@MrFredstt Vhagar was the dragon of Visenya Targaryen who was stern and warrior like. Vhagar herself is destructive and aggressive and has been in hundreds of battles. Aemond is brave, willing to fight and ruthless. Visenya is the same and so is Vhagar. I think Vhagar likes brave and "bold" riders, and Laena fits that too. I also think Vhagar saw those traits when Aemond was a child and approached her. Sunfyre is an odd one since he basically grew up with Aegon as a hatchling. We know in the books that they have the strongest bond between rider and dragon. However, I don't think much is known about Sunfyre's personality. Based on what we have known of him though he seems quite relaxed and friendly, which fits Aegon pre-being disfigured. I don't see Sunfyre as a war dragon and more as "I'm happy just flying with my rider" dragon and that fits Aegon as someone who didn't want to rule and would rather goof off. Also, it's hard to say without spoilers but I think they mirror each other well throughout the book as characters that get put through the ringer and yet persevere. I guess if I had to describe it myself, i'd say they are both resilient?
Jace is right you're not listening to what he said. If another silver haired bastard challenges him he really is no better then them and the people would pick the silver haired challenger over him. He's not blaming the dude for being picked by the dragon he's talking about all the silver haired bastards that they find and give not only a dragon BUT the biggest dragon in the world.
@@Tashwampa yeah, he was expecting noblemen who had already pledged for the Blacks, they would have skin in the game and already be publicly sworn to his family.
Vermithor and silverwing are rhaenyra’s great grandparents dragons and the funniest part is great grandpa Jaeharys is probably rolling in his grave that hugh hammer son of Saera Targaryen claimed his dragon. Saera gave up being a targ princess to become a hooker and her and Jaeharys had an awful relationship due to her promiscuity. Big J eventually did miss her near the end of his life but she was his most troubled child
Well, he came to regret letting Saera live in what was basically exile in Lys. I'm sure he's glad a grandson of his, in some form or other, has claimed his dragon.
I feel like he’d be proud of Hugh seeing how brave and devoted to family he is. I see him claiming vermithor as a symbolic type of closure to the saera buissness
Oh big J would not like Rhaenyra, her children, or any of these other bastards. Like Viserys said big J would've kicked Rhaenyra to the curb a long time ago

You can really interpret it in a lot of ways. Saera's revenge against her father or one of reconciliation given that Jaehaerys did regret his treatment of Saera in his dying days.
@CallOutTheChaos We were talking about Hugh and Vermithor. Ulf is still his grandson if his story holds any weight, as Baelon lived a good while longer than his sister-wife Alyssa. He never remarried, but a trip or two to the Street of Silk is not out of the question.
Hugh is the son of Saera Targaryen, the rebel daughter of King Jaehaerys I, she ran away to Essos were she owned pleasure houses and made a life of herself. Hugh claimed the dragon of his grandfather
Jace was spitting though, like think about it, everything that makes the Targaryen family special stims from their ability to tame and ride dragons. In Jace's case him being a bastard but still being able to claim a dragon for his own takes a bit of heat off his back at the same time people will still whisper behind his back, however, now that Rhaenyra called for the dragonseeds to be dragon riders it opens up new conversation and puts a new target on Jace's back. Being a heir to the queen is one thing but him being dragon rider was special to him and was one of the few things he had to prove who he was and his worth, now seeing your home being flooded with people with silver hair and with looks that people believe YOU should have inherited, it damages his own self-worth and identity. I do understand why Rhaenyra made the decision she did and it's importance but the fact she can't see where others are coming from is selfish.
I found it so frustrating how the conversation just sort of… ended lol. She had nothing better to say to him after he was crying in front of her and being so openly vulnerable? She was just like yeah well tough luck buddy it is what it is wtf 😂
there was nothing else she could have told him hence, "what would you have me do?"...this was the only choice they had and she knew how much hurt her son was in that's why she found herself crying as well...with him
Rhaenyra basically just pulled a Viserys and set up for another war and succession crisis after she's gone. Jace has demonstrated he's the one able to think ahead and future consequences of actions while Rhaenyra can't think beyond the immediate effect which imo shows she wouldn't be a great ruler. I'd rather have Jace as ruler instead of her tbh

16:01 Jace is actually in the right. Rhaenyra just gave two of the biggest and strongest dragons to ppl who would be ahead of Jace for inheriting the throne, and they look more Targaryen than he does, and they have the dragons of jahaerys and The good queen Alysanne. They could theoretically kill Jace and make their own claim for the throne if they wanted too.
Jace is right, his mother put his life at risk the moment she gave birth to him. And now, she doesnt see how her own work is putting her son's inheritance in danger. Rhaenyra is the named heir, yet she is not on the throne. What does it matter that Jace is named heir if he cannot defend his claim in fronts of bastards who will claim he has no more rights to the throne than them (bc all of them are bastards) and bigger dragons?
I like how each bonding session was different. SeaSmoke went out and found his rider after prank the Knight, Vermithor said fuck everybody until someone talked shit to him, and then Silverwing was just happy someone visited her lol
The story of Hugh's mother... I think Saera? She was the youngest of Viserys' grandfather Jaehaerys' children. Anyways, her story is a very bizarre one for a Targaryen princess to end up in a brothel on another continent.
It was very stupid to think that those low-born bastards were going to be more loyal than those who are from noble houses, literally those types of people the first time you give them power will want more and more than what is offered to them while those from the noble houses think more about honoring their ancestors and bringing prestige to their houses.
Hugh's mother was Saera "for the streets" targaryen, her father was Jaehaerys, Vermithor's original rider. Hugh really pulled up and stole his Grandads old ride

But if some one with silver hair of a higher line was to come. They could challenge him. She is allowing other bastards to become gods and elevating their position. Jace looking at the future. Also pay attention to when Jace asked, if it was Mysaria's idea, cause Mysaria knows the rules and the game. I fear a plan in play.

Silverwing is actually known to be one of the more docile/friendly dragons. I think she was just happy someone showed up for once, or she thought one of her babies hatched. I like to think all this time she’s been trying to hatch a human and shes like “Oh shit, it worked!” Then immediately got the zoomies. Oh and you can see Vermithor look at hugh before he attacks kinda like he’s saying. “I choose you, but hold up one minute, I’m hungry.”
Rhaenyra manipulating starving peasants to throw their bodies at a dragon while also blocking their escape in hopes one will bond is the evil side of Rhaenyra we need to see more of. Yes. And I've wanted so much more of this from the beginning of this season. Nobles judge who's better suited to lead the smallfolk but the smallfolk always lose in their battles. All the dragons have their own personality. Vermithor is famed for his ferocity so chose Hugh because of his balls of steel. Silverwing is regarded as the friendliest, as far as a dragon can be friendly, out of all the dragons, so chose Ulf who's very personable.
Jace has an actual good point. Yes in order to get to the throne you must win the war and this is going to help with that. However you have to rule after and if someone thinks they have a claim and have the legitimacy of a dragon and probably will press their claim
36:12 Lady Jeyne Arryn did not kick her out. She was supposed to go to Pentos with Rhaenyra 2 younger sons to protect them. Joffrey is staying with her.
