For people that don't know the story...this is the Wings JLA horn. The horn used gases no longer legal in buildings and they found a way to make it work without those said gases. So the sound is slightly different. Also LCA will have massively different acoustics to JLA.

If I were a Red Wings fan, I would be happy. All indication seems to be that an exact, one-for-one replica of the JLA goal horn is just not possible. If they were somehow able to move the old horn to the new arena, I've read multiple times that the acoustics in LCA are so massively different from JLA that no one would be able to hear it. They've done the best they can. A real horn is better than a garbled recording, and the classic Red Wings goal horn that uses compressed air and sounds a little different, is better than another Tampa Bay Lightning horn clone, which half the league uses.

After looking it up, it seems like the new horn for this season is actually closer to the original horn used in JLA, before the one we're accustomed to from the mid-90's and beyond. It's a lower octave but it's almost exactly the same note with the same the blast sequence.

The media obliviously lied. It’s not the same model or the chord. The horn at the Joe was a Buell Reed Trombone. The new one is a Kahlemberg T3-383 , different model and manufacture. I’m glad the wings got a new horn but the old one was what made Detroit, Detroit ! Hope they can figure out to tone it down so we don’t have to sound like Florida or Atlanta. I get the “they can’t use the old one because of updated safety code” but I’ve seen plenty of people owning Buell Reed horn even some were ready to give it to the Red Wings…without requiring nitrogen so why did the organization lie about it ?

as a wings fan, i really missed having a real goal horn, and im so glad the recording is a thing of the past. i’m just upset because it doesn’t sound like how it did at the joe, it sounds like the panthers horn. hopefully they’ll do some type of tuning or something so it’ll sound more like JLA.

I was playing around with the new q3 horn sound in audacity, and I noticed if you change the pitch to -8%, it sounds just like the old joe horn! They should try to tune it that way.

Okay... Some people believe the Red Wings in that the new horn is the same model as at Joe. It's not. Joe had three pairs of Buell Trombone G-2027 horns. The new horn is a Kahlenberg Q-3 483-3 with three horns instead of four. If they wanted the new horns to sound the same as the old horns they could alter the tone by ordering new bells for the horns from Kahlenberg so that the notes are Gb and Db instead of F and Ab. Arena acoustics have nothing to do with the tones that the horn produces. Source: I bought my team a real goal horn. The tone changes about 3 Hz depending on the rink. Not 20 Hz like some claim is the case with Red Wings new horn due to building acoustics.
