You got me started in the hobby because your very detailed and explain what you do! Sadly, I had to take a break but I am excited to start again. Great video
Looks like the tank is filling out nicely. I also prefer the lighting now to how it was previously, much less shimmering and it seems easier to film without the camera struggling with the light.
The tank is looking very good as usual.I'm looking forward to seeing the newbie, perhaps next time. The clown fish seem busier than normal. Are they in breeding mode?Have a great week.
Yeah I hope I'll be able to catch it on video next time 'round! Hmm good eye, I'll definitely keep an eye on them to see if they're up to any shenanigans!
Thanks for the info about running your skimmer wet. I recently added skimmers to my reef tanks and run it wet . Ive been wondering if I need to replace the skimmed water with fresh or salt water. Thank you!
Looking good ;) I did some cleaning on my tank this week and my first ICP tests. I pulled gyres apart for the first time in probably a year and now theres a heap more flow at 60% LoL The ICP was predictably shocking and my very low phosphates turned out to be 0.56 (not 0.05) - I believe that because my test kit has a reagent tester in it and they are gone. Not sure how I have been keeping Acropora with Potassium (K) at over 650 - that makes me doubt the test because where would that Potassium come from (I wasn't dosing it). Anyhow it's bad so at least I can improve it ;) That pump is a great solution and I wouldn't worry about a dead spot there LoL..
Heh yeah the Gyres need a monthly cleansing or they will really clog up and not produce a lot of flow.. Oof that's VERY high for phosphates, although I've had that as well for prolonged periods of time and most fish didn't even seem to mind. Then your nitrates should also be on the higher side, right? And I'm not too worried about the dead spot, just slightly annoys me haha
@@DutchReefer Thing is I haven't had high phosphates or nitrates (based on my testing) ever - I don't think I've ever seen over 0.1 PO4 and over a year ago I was showing maybe 30 NO3 and the thing I worried about was the ratio being so high - generally I am in the 100-150x range. I tested NO3 last night (after 29 days) and they read 3. I need to buy a new PO4 test kit today but given Potassium (K) is so high on the ICP I am not really trusting those results. I think everything would be dead especially my tenuis.
@@sunnygoold9449 Yeah that doesn't make a lot of sense, the Tenuis would have died a long time ago in that case or at least wouldn't have any color left haha... Weird though how the ICP has two values that are off the charts... Did you use ATI or Triton or another brand?
@@DutchReefer Hmmm well I went to my LFS and they tested PO4 and got 0.3 - so it's true. Anyhow it's possible for Acropora to hang on at these PO4 levels and I may lose some later but I doubt they could with the K and I did test it at 450 so I hope it's wrong and a few water changes will bring everything down. I did switch to Grotech salt for 1 bucket (just changed back to Tropic Marin and I was occasionally dosing trace but it would have been a fraction of the recommended. I think I should be able to fix this now I know but we'll see ;)
@@sunnygoold9449 Good that you got it double checked! Well that's water changes then, and possibly a carbon source, although that would deplete your nitrates pretty quickly... At least good that you found the "truth"!
