Oddly enough, despite not being a Jew, the Jewish one. It was my first experience with a different religion other than those of the Lakota and Christianity.
@@brendaclark6576 Oh, dang! I love that one! Beware, Beware, Beware the power of Santa! I'm pretty sure he built up all of these over the course of the year as to not impact his schedule/quality as badly, but maybe?
It's so great that Rugrats was able to cover different holiday traditions throughout its run. Personally, I've only ever seen "Babies in Toyland," but I would like to see the other specials as well.
I always liked that scene when the "impersonator" Santa shows up and when giving a present to Chuckie asks kindly "do you still think Im scary?". A neat bit showing it was the real Santa Claus
I love the Hanukkah and Passover specials, cause even twenty years later, it's still one of the only times kids got specials specifically about Jewish holidays.
Santa Experience will ALWAYS be my favorite Rugrats episode!! I remember it being re-aired multiple times, everyy Christmas on Nickelodeon (or so it felt like when I was a kid!) My parents and I still talk about Angelica getting a lump of coal every holiday season and I remember genuinely feeling motivated to be good because I thought Santa was watching! After I subscribed to Paramount +, my parents (in their early 60's) and I (in my late 20's) sat down and re-watched the episode and it was just so nice to re-live those Nostalgic times with them.I remember the other holiday episodes, just not to the same extent as the Santa Experience- It was a true experience for sure.
Yeah, have to agree: as much as i love this episode, i actually like their Hanukkah episode more. I just like the idea of learning about other traditions like with The Proud Family in celebrating Kwanzaa with a homeless family they meet. I love Christmas but there's just something magical about knowing everyone has a holiday they celebrate around this time.
I still have the VHS tape for the Christmas special! Man I need to rewatch that special, looking back it's kinda sad seeing Angelica being so, broken per say, after her phone call to the "North Pole"
The best part of Rugrats first Christmas special was Angelica’s story of how handing out Christmas presents got started. “Soon everyone started handing out presents, even the Easter Bunny started doing it till Santa Claus hit him with a lawsuit” 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣 This gets me laughing every time!!!
I remembered watching Rugrats holidays back in the day. I would always set in the den, eating snacks and watching Rugrats with my family. So nostalgic 🥰
rugrats always did incredibly well with holiday specials, easy for young kids to learn traditions and lessons from, but still very entertaining and i played the original ones for my nieces and nephews recently, which they loved
Very memorable special: I also like how the Rugrats episode took inspiration from Gift of the Magi for Phil and Lil's storyline, and I'm also glad that Angelica still got a lump of coal inside her gift, otherwise it would have just gone against the whole message (since she did mostly try to do good for wanting gifts). On another note, the first time I heard of Chanukah and Kwanzaa was actually in Blue's Clues, but the second time I've ever seen it portrayed was in Rugrats, which was really cool. I'm glad when children's media takes the time and creativity to have their episodes do something informative in one way or another, particularly showing different cultures and traditions.
Chuckie was being stubborn about Santa being bad until the real Santa showed up and give him his present and showed Chucky he's a nice guy. Chuckie learnt his lesson. The best part of the special was Angelica trying to set things right after she took the twins' toys. She tries to do good. At the end, she got her gift, but got a one piece of coal at the end. It tells her that despite doing good, but she did some bad things. It serves a reminder to be good.
Rugrats are literally the reason why I started saying, "Happy Holidays", since I was young lol. So nice to learn about the differing holidays and their meanings.
I have an odd history with this show. I never really watched it on TV, but I absolutely adored the movies, and have some vague memories of the various holiday specials. But now, similar to Hey! Arnold, this is near the top of my list of shows I need to rewatch. Also, seeing that blue border genuinely made me scream internally.
I remember watching so much rugrats when I was a young kid it was such a good show. Thanks for the videos Jordan. Also hyped for the what's gonna happen in these next days of Fringemas!
Love the reference to the old yarn about the pair who sold their most beloved possessions for a gift for a close friend. Disney told it as well, but I don't know which retelling came first, this or their's.
I briefly mentioned in an earlier comment but, I have been celebrating Christmas my whole life. However, the Hanukkah and Passover specials were my first real introductions to those holidays and I vividly remember being impressed by those stories. Not long after I meet a girl who was half Jewish. She would not only be my best friend for tens but she would introduce my to all kinds of traditions I never heard of. Love your videos 😸 stay awesome
I hope you going to do a review about the Kwanzaa special very underrated special especially getting overshadowed by the christmas and Hanukah specials.
I may not be grown attached to RugRats but I will admire the fact they have made into Great Holiday Specials from Christmas to Hanukah to Kwanza and the Santa Experience is always a Christmas Classic
This episode taught a 5 year old me to be kinder to my little sister. Seeing Phil and Lil act that way really hit me back then and still hits me now rewatching it.
The rugrats premiered one year before I was born so I literally grew up watching them, and as someone who grew up in a small town with very little diversity, their specials that featured other religions was my first ever exposure to the different ways one can celebrate the holidays.
I grew up in a town with many Jewish families. We got off for all the Jewish Holidays. Marching band practice would cut short for some even though the Marching band didn't have that many Jewish kids. I knew a lot about Christian traditions, so it helped me learn about my friends from a young age to see the Chanukah special. The rugrats will always hold a special place in my heart and made me who I am today.
I used to love the (1993) Rugrats when I was little on DVD, and The 90's All That block before it rebranded into NickRewind but I haven't seen the older Rugrats Christmas specials since I was little! and forgot some of them existed.
I’m not going to lie, the thumbnail change was a good idea. Saw the new rugrats didnt click… couple hours latwr saw the old rugrats and clicked it right up 😂
I never cared for the Rugrats because I think I was just too old to be in its demographic. However, I DO remember the Passover special the most out of everything involving them. I don't know why, but I think it's because you never really see other Jewish holidays represented fully in shows. Most cover Channukah, if they even attempt to at all, but never really go into Yom Kippur, Rosh Hashana, Shabbat, Passover, etc. etc. etc. It was honestly amazing to me as a young Jewish girl to see a cartoon of all things tackling one of the most important Jewish holidays that no other media at the time, or even now, makes an attempt to tackle.
I don't know how long it's been since I've seen this, but i'll definitely rewatch it (thank you Paramount+). My favorite part is Angelica calling the holiday phone line ("It's over Cynthia, my future as a kid is over". ).
oh my God Rugrats and All Grown up was a huge part of my Early Childhood in the 90s and All Grown up in the Early 2000s I still remember those Christmas Episodes.
This was one of my favorite specials as a kid. I always enjoyed watching Rugrats as a little one. Also, the mall Santa was too thin, IMO. Angelica got what she deserved in the end.
Another show that did a good job of showing different holidays was The Weekenders, it was always a show I would watch when I was younger and I think it did a good job showing different ways people celebrate just like rugrats did!
I always liked the rugrats holiday specials. Even as a kid, the parts of the non-christmas episodes i was able to grasp i found both endearing and enlightening to other faiths and cultures.
early Scott the Woz crossover foreshadowing? guessing he'll either appear in the show as a cameo, or Jordan is going to appear as one of Scott's friends sent in to save christmas. i was thinking it was just a bit about eggnog or something.
Rugrats is one of my favorite cartoons and because of it and other tv shows I learned alot about Hunukkah and Kwannza that I wouldn't really know otherwise. Anyway, I can't wait for the next video!
Hi Greatness Jordan! Ah my goodness, whoa good work and it’s always nice watching the original Rugrats jolly Christmas. I hope you have a Wonderful Happy Sunday! :)
I never thought about it much as a kid, but having seen the special more recently, I love the guy who tells Angelica she's naughty. Just so random and out of nowhere, this guy tells a random wrong number she's a bad kid, I love it.
The Rugrats really taught me about respecting other cultures. It really has a special place in my heart. They taught me so much about the Jewish faith, things I never would have known otherwise. And for that it will always have a place in my heart ❤️ Barakallah
I love how in the Santa experience the cast had to travel out of town for a white Christmas. It’s funny how during Christmas no snow but the blizzard episode they have snow. Rugrats weather is so weird. Oh did any one catch that. Some one was watching “ it’s a wonderful life” it’s right before Angelica makes the phone call you can see end credits of that movie LOL
I grew up in southern New Hampshire and we rarely, if ever, got snow on Christmas (usually our big storms happen in mid January), but if we traveled just an hour north there would be.
The rest of the world : crayons Americans : cra'ans Really tho, I loved the rugrats specials so much. It was genuinely the first exposure I'd ever had to a religion other than Christianity, especially living in a rural community with little access to things like TV, no internet, nothing! My school was incredibly white and rather set in its ways, so exposure to other faiths was highly frowned upon at the time. And yet here I am, a whole ass adult now, and celebrating as many faiths as I can, with the people around me, whom I love and cherish! I've chosen to move on from Christianity to observe life and the people in it! It's a big world out there, with many ideologies. Always something new to learn about too.
I remember really liking the Passover and Chanukah specials because I grew up catholic and didn't know any Jewish people as a kid, so those holidays/traditions were just something I heard referenced a lot but had no kind of context for. And even back then I thought it was cool Rugrats would put a spotlight on those holidays whereas other shows I watched at the time like Recess would only maybe give them a pity mention, if even that.
