The relationship between seed oils, sunburn & skin cancer

Paul Saladino MD

Paul explains his hypothesis that consuming seed oils (linoleic acid), causes a worse sunburn, and additionally, putting linoleic acid directly onto skin via skincare products or sunscreen may lead to skin cancer. He shares studies that show how inflammatory oils create inflammation in the body and how saturated fat, like tallow, have the opposite effect.

I ran the self experiment all last summer. For context I’m the fair skin type who freckles and burns easily. I would even burn with sunscreen often for years when younger. Last summer I got regular sun exposure, cut out the seed oils and didn’t burn no matter what I did. Towards the end of the summer after not burning I wondered what would happen if I added them back in. So naturally I went to chick fil a and loaded up on their nuggets, sauce etc - and the next day was the first time every for the entire summer I even got any sort of a burn. I cut them out again and never burned after

I'm extremely fair skinned. I've spent my whole life getting terrible sun burn and avoiding sunshine as much as possible. Which is pretty easy cause I live in the UK. I have done keto on and off for years, done a bit of carnivore, but for the last six weeks have been pure carnivore. I swear in the last two weeks 8-10 people have said to me 'wow you're looking tan!?'. THIS IS NOT A WORD I HAVE EVER HEARD USED TO DESCRIBE ME BEFORE. EVER. It's bizarre. And it hasn't even been that sunny this springtime. I could not be more surprised. On another topic, I've been using jojoba oil as a moisturiser for years (it cured my roseacea for any sufferers out there) and based on this video thought 'oh no! I hope its not high in linoleic acid', so I checked and it isn't. It's actually a liquid wax ester, not an oil, and contains 73.4% eicosenoic acid, 14.7% Erucic acid and 8.3% oleic acid. So if you want carnivore appropriate moisturiser use jojoba oil, it's magic in so many other ways as well. It's the best.

This may at first seem off topic but it could be a directly relevant. It may be possible that Grounding or Earthing would also decrease sunburn and skin cancer as well. It greatly reduces inflammation throughout the body and sends a massive stream of negatively charged particles into your system the moment you are grounded. The free radical particles need a partner and when they don't have one they steal them from your cells disrupting them and sometimes starting a cancerous colony. I recently purchased a silver threaded grounding pillowcase that plugs into the ground on an electrical socket. It felt as though I was buying a pet rock or something ridiculous but I wanted to use it for meditation purposes as it fills your body with the earth's Schuman resonance which coincides with the Theta brainwave state you are seeking when meditating. Immediately after using it the first time I was shocked by the lack of morning aches and pains and I felt like it was a fresh spring morning. I was worried that maybe it had numbed my nerves or had some kind of undesirable electric current so I researched it deeper. I had no idea but as it turns out one of the major benefits of grounding is the elimination of inflammation and pain. Sunburn is actually your body reacting to the damaging UV rays and inflaming the skin. Given that seed oils cause all sorts of inflammation and grounding stops inflammation It makes me wonder if grounding can make the consumption of seed oils safe?

Adding to the light sensitivity convo. On a low fat diet my eyes were sensitive to light and I sunburned easily. After doing keto I stopped needing sunglasses and I can go in the sun without getting burned. So it also could be the lack of good fats causing the sensitivity as opposed to caused by bad fats.
@DeviatingVapors
@DeviatingVapors Год назад
curious. you seem to be onto something here. lack of good fats is rampant. similar with lack of good salts. and w/o the proper electrolytes your cells cannot repair ... the skin is the largest organ that no one considers (is even an organ at all), but skin issues tell us a lot of what is going on inside. have seen obese patients going overboard on the moisturizers for the last decade (all proponents of honey .. which doesn’t help them at all). thanks for triangulating this. will help me explore the unknowns involved... I have been wondering now .. how fresh water vs salt water vs chlorine or bromine water is affecting health, since I got a half decent gym membership in March, + have started to explore different temperatures of the water .. sauna, etc. how much is too much. what is getting absorbed .. very complex.

Man, I have gone to the ocean in different places. Mexico about four times and I have ALWAYS peeled and consequently lost the tan or color I had achieved. Using tons of whatever sunscreen. I went to playa del carmen about a month ago, didn't use absolutely nothing other than coconut oil before going in the sun and beef tallow at night everywhere on my skin. If I at some point felt that the sun was hitting too hard, I'd wear a long sleeve shirt and hat with no issues. And well, surprise surprise, this is the day that I still have not peeled not even a little and my skin is looking better than ever. Still use the two products mentioned above the same way. In 2009 I had several melanoma lesions and swollen lymph nodes. I did a deep dive into cancer and heard on One Radio Network an interview with dr Nicolas Gonzalez (search the gonzalez protocol). In one melanoma case study Gonzalez wrote "We put all our melanoma patients on red meat". He also put all his patients on organ meats. Right after that I switched from vegetarian to emphasizing red meat and here I am reasonably healthy 14 years later, still emphasizing red meat. I also take and apply iodine as discussed on many sites. (eg breast cancer choices ) Hearing Dr Saladino mention a study showing an association between melanoma and seed oils, it occurred that in changing my diet to emphasizing red meat, I eliminated processed vegetable oils. Lucky me.

Why is Apob so severely associated in many studies with cardiovascular problems and arteriosclerosis?
@bobstrongbad
@bobstrongbad Год назад
from what i understand, there are a few different kinds of LDL particles. The ones that have a tendency to get lodged in arterial walls are called small, dense LDL particles. So when our LDL is measured, we don't know if our high LDL is made up of a bunch of large buoyant LDL, or, even if our LDL is normal, perhaps a lot of small dense LDL. Apo B is a protein that acts as a kind of a doorman between cells, that is attached to the LDL, it allows LDL to bind to other cells that need cholesterol. When you have a high concentration of Apo B, i guess the reasoning is that it's likely you have a large amount of small, dense LDL particles. I could be wrong, so if someone wants to swoop in and correct me I'd like to hear from you.

@lenguyenngoc479
@lenguyenngoc479 Год назад
@@zzzide why apob is so severely associated with heart diseases in many studies, explain the machanism? ChatGPT Apolipoprotein B (apoB) is a protein found in low-density lipoprotein (LDL) particles, which are often referred to as "bad cholesterol." When LDL particles accumulate in the walls of arteries, they can form plaques that narrow the arteries and lead to heart disease. Several studies have shown a strong association between elevated levels of apoB and an increased risk of heart disease. This is because apoB plays a critical role in the metabolism and clearance of LDL particles in the body. LDL particles are taken up by cells in the body through a receptor-mediated process that involves apoB binding to the LDL receptor. However, when there is an excess of LDL particles in the blood, the receptor system becomes saturated, and LDL particles with apoB are not cleared effectively. As a result, LDL particles can accumulate in the walls of arteries, causing inflammation, oxidative stress, and other harmful effects that contribute to the development of atherosclerosis and ultimately, heart disease. Furthermore, high levels of apoB are also associated with other risk factors for heart disease, such as insulin resistance, obesity, and hypertension, which can further exacerbate the effects of LDL accumulation

Aw crap. I avoid sunscreen, have had multiple BCC, recognize the importance of cholesterol for skin health, and I love the sun (even though I'm a ginger). I had a number of melanoma two decades ago. Never felt that the narrative they push as far as the sun being the cause is correct. It is something wrong in the body that the sun simply brings to the surface. If it´s the seed oils as Paul says one can only speculate. I think several factors together. Either way I still go sit in the sun every day almost (and I live in a climate where its hot and sunny all year round). Never again did I have any issues. I did change my diet somewhat and I stopped using conventional sunscreen, not using that anymore. Been fine ever since.

Hemp seed oil is very high in Omega-6 (about 60g/100g - in other words, hemp seed oil is 60% Omega-6). That's higher than corn, peanut, soybean, sunflower, or canola oil. Just because it's "considered healthy" doesn't mean it is!

Hemp seed oil has been studied for its benefits to the skin. It is a great moisturizer and is good for acne prone skin because it is non pore blocking. It is also thought to offer some protection from UV radiation. Linoleic acid is only one component of hemp seed oil. It also contains alpha linoleic acid (omega 3), oleic acid (omega 9), gamma linoleic acid (GLA) and a lot of nutrients, including magnesium, potassium, zinc and calcium. It is also rich in vitamin E, which is a powerful antioxidant as well as vitamin D and beta carotene, which all work in synergy to improve health.

In traditional Okinawa culture tofu is long fermented thus reducing much of soy's inhibitors unlike modern practices where tofu is rested overnight only.
