I read The Repairer Of Reputations when I was a teenager and couldn't get my head around it. I wasn't familiar with the concept of the "unreliable narrator" and did not understand what was happening. Reading it as an adult fifty years later I could "get it" a lot more !

Holy Stars! That Was Fantastic! It never ceases to astonish me just how very talented you are as a storyteller. I have always thought you have the perfect voice for narration and you always go above and beyond. Your accents are beautiful, you bring each character to life with their own personality just by the tone, pitch cadence and strength of your voice. Absolutely Brilliant And Gifted Storyteller Is Exactly What You Are. I'm definitely going to listen to this one again. ❤

The first story in the King in Yellow is one of the best. Though they are all good in their own way. From the supernatural horrors of carcosa to the horrors of war and ending on the joys of peace. It is a very unique collection. Mr Castain was well rendered and read here. The gradual decent into madness was great.

What an absolutely fascinating story. It made me think of The Man in the High Castle. Totally agree with you about the much maligned True Detective 2. I also really liked it.

Great story and narration! I like how you ended the story. That was classic and seems to portray a madman quite well. Great rendition of a fantastic story. I picked up on a few things I missed when I heard this before. Thanks! Your chat at the end of this is fantastic. I agree that Chambers is sadly forgotten by folks today. Some people mistakenly give Lovecraft credit for "The King in Yellow," Hastur, and Carcosa. It does not take long for people to set them straight!! Thanks for this fantastic treasure!

this whole canon of related stories i would never have discovered if i weren't a long time reader of ambrose bierce. who always struck me as the 'bizarro mark twain... the loosey-goosey relationship with reality reminds me of samuel delaney's DAHLGREN.

"If you don't like it, don't speak about it to anybody" 😂 You crack me up sometimes. It's interesting you bring up cats and rabbits. I had a rabbit who would actually attack me. I don't think she was socialized very well before I got her. I don't usually have issues with cats. There is always a good reason for a cat to attack someone, if they do. It saddens me that for most of written history they have been viewed and talked about so negatively.

Yes, doesn’t it? I love listening to Tony’s “rambles”. On the other hand, I had a little disagreement online with some lady the other day, who said that she hates cats because she could never trust them, they’re so unpredictable and apt to “BITE AND SCRATCH” (her rant was all in caps, as if cats were out to overpower her and liable to take her eyes out, although she’s no doubt much bigger than any cat). Yet, I’ve never had a cat act that way, except of course kittens play, cats give love nips, (no strength at all, just putting their mouth on you to keep you scratching the itchy spot or what have you). Only mistreated cats act that way, and I told her if that’s all she’s encountered then she must be handling them in a way they don’t like. She didn’t appreciate my advice on the subject. If you were a stranger who suddenly came up screeching at me and picked me up, I’d bite you, too. It’s a shame cats have such a bad rep. On the one hand, they’re less likely to stick around people who mistreat their animals, and it’s a good judge of character - much more discerning than the unconditional favor of any dog.

@@-Reagan It is really sad that someone would say they are "unpredictable". They are animals and they have rules and boundaries. They also have their own body language you just have to learn how to read. I can't think of any situation where any animal attacks out of malice or where they would be at fault. Animals attack as defense or to hunt food. Even the bunny I mention, I know it wasn't her fault or that she was crazy. I got her when she was already 3 years old so I think she was just fearful of humans due to not being handled enough previously. Some people still don't understand this, although understanding and acceptance of cats is growing fast and it's beautiful. Without cats, many human civilizations would have starved due to rodents eating all the grain.

I assumed this was story was something like the movie the Cabinet of Dr. Caligari, and the narrator was in the asylum the whole time. That’s why he had no opportunities to kill the doctor when he visited-the visit was just going to a therapy session with Dr. Archer. It works either way, either he was really out or it was all in his head. Mr. Wild was another inmate who self-harmed, his cousin was a guard in the asylum. It’s a thought anyway. I loved the way you changed your voice for the final mad scenes. An excellent reading. ❤

What a highly disturbing and incredibly fascinating tale of bizarre horror!! Never heard of this story or author before---but certainly was picking up on the references to "Carcosa" (however it might be spelled) and I'm glad you brought it up in the ramble. Yeah---I only watched season one of True Detectives----never going to rewatch it, but it was so sickly riveting I couldn't turn it off at the time. Once I caught on fully that the protagonist was completely insane---I began to think pretty much all of the atmosphere and characters were warped by his layers of mental illness. Yet, I believe that the Yellow King volume was Real---and a portal of evil, so yes---Once you read it, you're under its power and go insane. Yellow can be a "trigger" color at times. Not yellow daffodils...but other, nasiter sorts of yellow. Thank you for the Tale to go with a frighteningly WINDY Saturday here in the mid-west of the USA. Very moody and sad sort of day. Bless you!

Love your French! I love speaking in French SOoo MUCH but English is the most expressive, beautiful language ever and we are so lucky 🍀 to have it as our first language and to live in UK🇬🇧 ! We take it for granted! What I never take for granted are the books that you write in English and you really do the language justice and I am not saying this to flatter you…. I am always sincere and I only subscribe to channel’s that I love! I think your brother is a very lucky man to have you as a brother and I love this author and the French author you started the rain asmr video with, Guy de M something and you know I refer to him….and all so called deceased author’s on here in the present tense, because speaking from my life experience, my perspective of it, after an NDE when I was 24 after an accidental overdose (I don’t even smoke anymore, my only vice is meditating and automatic writing!!) so NO I AM NOT DRUNK!!! I just feel good! Thank you so much Tony!!!! 💫🔮💫

@@ClassicGhost Well, Idk, maybe. I took it as the superficial “clean”, and “functional” veneer of an Orwellian society. You know, you’ve got bright lights, big city glamour, and there amidst the paparazzi are the suicide booths… like in Canadia. But I was just being silly. ;) Not MY term for our Northern Canadianian neighbors, that’s our White House Spokeshole’s geographical excellence speaking.
