Little Heart is a dark tale that explores a woman’s confused memories of her childhood and her conflicted relationships with her mother, once a film star, and her father who smells of ink and paper and at times is indistinguishable from a dark-beaked crow.
Full of luscious imagery, the story reminded me of the work of Angela Carter and Shirley Jackson with its fairytale themes and dark twists.
In the interview Georgina talks about her influences and the nature of her stories.
She has just finished a novella Honeybones, and this story comes from her very well-reviewed collection This House of Wounds

Always enjoy a lazy Saturday morning, coffee, and a Tony Walker story. This one was rich with description and dark beautiful tones of a terrible secret and it’s destructive consequences. Thank you Tony. Have a lovely weekend!

Beautifully written beautifully narrated and very evocative of Angela Carter especially The Magic Toyshop.

Needs several listenings...like looking at Hieryonimous Bosch. Pushed so many buttons- if I'd had the intellect and imagination how I'd like to write. But, thank you Georgina you gave me ideas for "stories" for my therapy journal and Tony's the best, he never goes overboard or hammy. I am adding the book to an ever growing wish list- I won't live long enough to read all the books I want too. Wish I could dream read each night- so I could read day and night. Thanks for probably the best dark tale in long time ( excluding yours Tony!) and for all Tony's hard work, expertise, and great guests and interviews. I love writers... Namaste. Z ( I look in my mirror, oh blank! after that delicious Alexander McQueen-esque book cover, sigh, beauty...)

Great story and narration! Georgina did a fantastic job writing this! One can tell she teaches speaking, reading, and writing English. Her writing is perfect! This story is truly haunting! Great job. Thanks!

This story has stuck with me the last few days and I realised that I forgot to give credit to Georgina so maybe on a subconscious level if you don’t ever read this Georgina, keep up the good work! I’ll be looking out for you and I’m sure that you will make a lot more money from writing than teaching eventually! For a story to stay with you for a few days...... you’re gifted!☯️ I lived in Japan when I was 17, Osaka and then Tokyo and it was so expensive I ended up working as a bloody hostess to Wealthy Japanese businessman...... they were the only ones that can speak English- That’s my excuse and I’m sticking to it! lol! Didn’t like Tokyo was home sick from London even though I’m from Ireland originally!

@@ClassicGhost Thank you Tony! I don’t know how my iPhone turned Tokyo into Turkey! Funnily enough it was difficult being vegan in Tokyo because I couldn’t read the bloody ingredients! They had these machines everywhere with junk food in it and I would just live on that! Thank you so much for your reply!😇

Amazing! I wasn’t expecting the interview at the end! Thank you! This is a dark gem, enticing a look closer as its facets twinkle, menacingly in the night - begging to be discovered, splintered in a thousand sharp stars, and what is inside, revealed. I wonder, did she kill him, as she killed her mother? Did she really kill her mother, or was it father’s darkness, come alive as a being inside her, and she was then the ersatz Anna, worn as the other mother had been worn? Disassociated identity? Her mother’s death a consequence of the guilt of blame, fueling the splinter, and creation of her husband in her daughter... and when she finally saw it - the thing she was always looking for in her daughter, it had come to life, vengeful, and she had a massive stroke...? So disturbing, looking backwards and forwards - and so sad

I saw it as her father being a predator/ pedophile and she had simply blocked out all the memories. She mentioned seeing an intimate scene between her parents and her father smiling at her during, which is a weird thing for a parent to do. The film did not have any sex scenes, so this particular vision may have been very real. Then him giving her some crushed pills (with raspberry-flavoured syrup) to calm her down or make her fall asleep after the film night. Her seeing blood and a feather on her thigh seems symbolic, as if the figure she envisioned had touched her there. It's possible he got caught and went to prison, and that also triggered her mother to look at the daughter with some animosity
