One of the finest (multiple) uses of those cheesy 'play-along' instrumental backing records (and other similarly sourced LPs) ever (re-)committed to vinyl. "Weescoosa knows the way!"
I really can see the Zappa/Beefheart comparison but this is something that has a life of its own! Totally brilliant inside of complete insanity! Thanks for posting
Best Christmas album ever who needs Darlene love or Bing Cosby or whatever this is what plays over the Christmas tree while everyone opens up presents like yodeling pickles and the classic nose and glasses disquise or a residents vinyl ahh the holidays
the level of creativity and originality is epic. I prefer the 'Analogue' years, Santa Dog thru Commercial LP. Just because I love the warmth of those recordings. It feels like your in a room full of weirdos LOL
I believe it was sent back with a stamp that says 'Refused'. Frank Zappa had received a copy as well, but that was sent back because he was moved at the time,
“For Christ’s sake, Manolo, you LIKE this stuff?” “Si, sir, it’s better than your noodlings on the piano...you should call these nuts and set up a jam session! You could use them!”
I have had this album together with Meet the Residents on one cassette tape. I must admit that THESE Residents I like the most. Same with Mothers of Invention or Captain Beefheart. Older the better. Kind of...
If you like this check out the "A Nickle If Your Dick's This Big" compilation that recently came out. It features some of their oldest surviving officially released recordings, including three live performances.
My favourite mothers album is freak out (their first). My favourite residents album is their first but favourite Beefheart album is trout mask replica (just above safe as milk and lick my decals off)

Why, oh why, was I condemned to love the music everyone else hates. I've met like 2 other people in my entire life, since I first heard them in 1982, who like/love the residents. Life's not fair.
@@RaptorFromWeegee it's a really acquired taste ESPECIALLY the more avant garde stuff the newer stuff while still it experimental is defenitly not quite as weird
MrChrisHermes Oh, it would be fun, in a somewhat horrifying way. :) (Apparently, the father of one of the Hampton Grease Band got their album into the muzak at his insurance company's building - THAT was probably scary...)
umm okay sweaty lemme explain since you obv dont know. post punk was invented in 1738 by blaise pascal, yeah. that IS after he died. fuckin normies smh
The punk scene did enjoy the Residents’ cover of Satisfaction, but besides that, this band isn’t affiliated with punk at all. They are an Art-Pop band. They frequently make eerie covers of popular/Pop songs, like Boots by Nancy and the aforementioned Satisfaction, and albums like Duck Stab are just otherworldly Pop albums.
He does sound like Bryan Ferry a bit, and the surfy pop-rock collage aspect is there, but it's much weirder and less "pop" than most of what Roxy were doing, even early on.
This just proves that there have always been weird musicians. Also these tracks sound like something that would play right before someone has a panic attack/ expirence a prolonged Heroic BSOD
8:48 Ohh - "kick a cat" is obv a reference to Zappa, for all his brilliance, losing his primeval innocence... Existential crisis or no, don't do it folks! (Dont lose your dreams .. Or kick anything small and fluffy!)
Hi @@shinybeast8946 1- The songs about Frank Zappa 2- 8:20 Dont REALLY 'kick a cat' kayyy? With a name like yours I figured you'd know - Beefheart was WAY more my cup of tea :) Merry New Chiristmas !
@@pongnose Snakefinger met them in 1970 actually. He appeared on at least 2 of their earliest live performances in '71 and '72 (they also did a show at his wedding) and one of their demos in '71. He, however does not appear on this release. That much is true.
