This was because, in reality, Lucy Lawless broke her ankle after she fell off her horse and so they switched places. The actress who play Calisto did a real good job portraying, Xena lol

@@RicardoPerez-rz8pu I doubt it because she said in an interview that green screen was in infancy in those days. She also mentioned that all the stunts that were done were actually done by real people including herself for close-up shots. She mentioned having her eyebrows cinched a couple of times

Well, it was indeed a great concept but I think Hudson acted better than Lucy. Lucy didn't make full use of this great opportunity to play the ultimate psycho villain. She tried, yes, she was different from her usual but not a perfect Callisto. Hudson had set the bar too high. Still a very enjoyable episode though.

Yeah, it helps the audience to really buy into the idea that they are in each other's bodies if the actresses imitate each other's mannerisms and tone of speaking. It is indeed funny to hear them do each others' war cries, though lol. Hudson Leick (Callisto's actress) wasn't very good at doing the Xena war cry, which is probably why she doesn't do it in the following episode where the two are still stuck in each others' bodies.

They are both incredible here. Lucy is especially good with the physical stuff while Hudson absolutely nails Lucy’s delivery. She is even better in 10 Little Warlords.

Ms Lieck was having so much fun playing the bad girl it was hard to pry my eyes off of her. Lawless has great range as an actress, but Lieck could hold her own when she was screwing with Xena as Calisto.

Imagine the fear Joxer had approaching Callisto and yet he still did because he knew that was Xena's horse. That is bravery. Side note. Loved Lucy Lawless as Callisto and Hudson as Xena. Well acted.

That's the thing about Joxer. He may lack any fighting capability and even appear cowardly at times, but he was extremely brave and a loyal friend to Xena and Gabrielle. He was a hero at heart.

Callisto as Xena and Xena as Callisto was absolutely amazing! Both actresses really captured the essence of the characters! Especially Lucy...she is so good at capturing all the subtle nuances! Everything from being Callisto to Xena's Doppelgangers to made-up characters (Miss Amphipolis among many others) and impersonating actual characters on the show (Cleopatra). She is just incredibly dynamic!

@@deekayteeohthree Gabrielle was inferior to Xena. Joxer can't even be classified as a fighter. But he was one of Xena's most loyal and trusted friends, along with Salmonius. Bless his heart. He was brave even though we knew he couldn't hurt a fly, even if he tried 🤣 It was really sad to watch Eve/Livia kill him. He was the most gentle person.

If you watch the Xena series you can tell the story is not politically motivated or crammed full of propaganda unlike the new shows they crap out these days. Xena is written by a person who just wanted to write a good story, exactly how it should be.

Lucy's Callisto is OK, but it's a bit more generic baddie. Hudson's Xena, however, that's a next level performance. I honestly wish we could have seen more of it. As much as I love Lucy as Xena, I'd have been very OK with a longer run with Hudson as Xena for maybe... a season. Or two.

Hudson Leick so brilliant and deliciously evil. Sad when they turned her into a "goodie goodie". Waste of an awesome character. Sad she's no longer acting, but happy for her that she's doing what she loves now as a brilliant yoga instructor. As for Kevin Smith...still mourn the loss of him. So many other great actors from this show went onto great acting careers. Our loss of what could have been.
