For those who don't have the SHARE partition showing, you might need to allocate a drive letter to that partition to get it to show: To assign a drive letter in Disk Management, complete the following: Right-click the drive you would like to change. (find the share partition on your SD card in the list) Click Change Drive Letter and Paths. Click Add. Click the letter you want to use. Click OK. Hope this helps!
do you mean the unallocated partition. ive followed 4 tutorials, 2 diff batocera versions, no shared folder, no boot after flash, why is there no simple instructions anywhere.
@@MrMichaelrichards Flash the image to the SD - boot the SD, the SHARE folder will be auto-populated - do a proper shutdown through the menu - pull the SD out and into your mac/pc - drop your stuff - boot the SD in the handheld again - enjoy
I installed MinUI on my RG35XX Plus and I honestly haven’t looked back. It’s perfect for me. It’s so streamlined and minimal and stops me tinkering around with the system setting and has actually got me playing games. I know it’s not for everyone, but I highly recommend it if you like clean, minimal UI’s.
Thats what I have been doing the last 2 years, now that I have most of the handhelds from Anbernic, Mini Miyoo, Nintendo, AYN/RP, and Valve, I can actually play the games i spent a thousand hours configuring...(yea man, I wanted to do it!) From OnionOS, to GarlicOS, to MinUI, to JELOS, to Batocera, to Emulation Station, to Android/Daijisho, to Adrenaline, to Linux/SteamOS/Proton/EmuDeck/Chimera, emulation is stronger than ever... btw retroachievements is soooooooooooooooo good!@@Micchi-
I like the minimalistic design but not the minimalistic functions like missing support for some systems mainly (no MS-DOS and no Arcade if I remember correctly?). But its greate CFW for all GBs, NES, SNES, Genesis… GarlicOS was nice compromise for RG35XX something between MinUI and Koriki, but for now no real support for RG35XX Plus, so I give Koriki a try definitely.
Zombies Ate My Neighbors was one of my favorite couch coop games growing up, that and Toejam & Earl. Love those games so very much, and it excites me to see you playing them!
I tried this the other day. It looks great. I love Emulation Station. It needs to be emphasized that this is a relatively early build - there's still some way to go. As much as I liked it, the boot time and a few other omissions stop me from using it yet. Hopefully it wont be too long before it becomes really good.
MiyooCFW just added USB Mass storage mode. This means you wouldn’t unplug the card from the device, you would just plug the device directly into the PC to transfer game backups
My favorite thing about this is that it is about the same dimensions as my phone, and since I have my nose in my phone anyway, it will be helpful with the controls. 😊
Loving your videos. ❤️ I won't switch from the stock OS until we get HDMI and BT. Looking forward to feature parity on a custom firmware for my RG35XX Plus.
Very great video showcasing this custom firmware. I think I'm still just gonna wait on Garlic OS 2.0 to get fully baked. I like the ability to multitask and to just turn the system off while I'm in the middle of a game and being able to turn it back on and it'll boot up right where I left off. But I do understand the appeal of Koriki and if Garlic OS wasn't a thing I'd see myself using this for sure.
Zombies Ate my Neighbors is one of my top favorite games, it was just fun, new, and tons of characters. I really wish somebody can revive that whole game ground up
Got a crystal white RG35XX H just like this one. Love the "Amblernic" build quality and the form factor, but this is the second Amblernic device that the stock micro SD card died almost immediately. Replace those cards people! Put in a Sandisk 128GB card with Batocera, now this is my new daily driver.
I've been holding out on a hand held retro device for a few years. Your video sold me on this one - with the software suggested in this video, I think it's great. The price on this device is also cheap.
likewise im just waiting around for garlic 2.1 to drop... garlic 2.0 is just no where near as good as garlic 1.xx on the og 35xx (non plus) i use my og 35xx all the time still. my plus just collecting dust for now...
I’m glad I gave your vids another shot, you’re not doing that unwatchable accent thing. You just gained another subscriber! I’m still waiting for my H, by the way… can’t wait if it’s anything near the old 35XX original.
As far as I can tell, it doesn't allow vertical arcade games to play sideways, which is a great feature of the stock OS, and a great reason to buy this device. If the developers are reading this, please add this mode. Built in cheats would be nice too. Thanks for the video.
You definitely can. You can even create an automatic 'vertical shooter' game collection. But the screen rotation will have to be done manually (via the retorarch settings). You'll also need to save a vertical arcade control config that you can load up when you start a vert shooter. If you save the game override it'll always be applied when you play that game. But you're right, it'd be nice if it was included as a default config!
So I've figured out how to fix the drastic menu. The default config for the main controls has a plethora of incorrect settings Formatted on the side, to get to the menu I pushed in R-stick, after that, I continued to press B to scroll down, and after that, L1 to select control options. Then i pressed A to get to the Options on the side and pressed R1 to un-map those. To scroll Down to unmap the rest of them continue to press B **After I did that, I went to extra controls by Pressing B until I scrolled down to Extra's, and then pressing L1 to Select the option. If you press Extra's and you are on the Right control options, Press B to scroll and unmap everything, after you do that you can go over by pressing A and unmapping the settings in the middle, vice versa. This step is REALLY IMPORTANT. Go over to the left by pressing A again, If your already on the left GREAT! Press B to scroll and Only map theese settings to what you would like and ONLY THEESE! Enter Menu (Function Key Prefered) Swap Screens (Push In L Stick Prefered) Swap Screen Orientation A (L2 Prefered) Swap Screen Orientation B (R2 Prefered) Menu Cursor Up, Down, Left & Right. (R Stick Movement Prefered) And last, but not least, Menu Select (Push In R Stick Prefered)** Tips for anyone who is confused :) Everything in Bold Is only done in the extras menu :) Everything not in the extras Menu You just have to unmap everything on the side like I said earlier. If you wanna change thoose controls do that on your own accord. I don't know how anyone wants their cursor setup so just lmk if you want me to give you a tutorial on that. YOU MIGHT HAVE TO SET UP MENU SCROLL IN EXTRAS I HAVE TO EXPERIMENT WITH THAT.. Any other questions are welcomed. If this just doesnt work and it only works for me let me know haha :) Make sure you save the settings per game :)
DraStic is a friggin mess of an emulator but at least it kinda works. It lags during heavy 3D rendering in some games even though it can FF far above 100% speed
I would love to be able to play more platforms on my 35xx+, but honestly, MinUI has me hooked on it's ridiculously fast startup and the ability to just press power to shut the device down in the middle of a game, and have it resume instantly on power on.
It's worth noting that Batocera has a strictly non-commercial license, meaning it would be illegal for it to be shipped with any of these systems by default. This seems to be primarily because the libretro-based emulators included have non-commercial licenses. Then again, these companies often are totally fine with shipping ROMs with their devices, so whether they care about legality or not is debatable.
I think my favorite theme at the moment is Elementarial. Doesn't support my language so I didn't take the internal updater route - instead I download the package and put the fonts I wanted to use in it and then changed the config script to use the fonts. Really working well in my case.
Just tried Koriki and it seems that I am unable to use the second SD card slot. Neither formatting it from within Batocera and pointing the storage location to it, nor using a preformatted FAT32 SD card seems to work. Dealbreaker for me, to have both the OS and ROMs on the same SD card as shown in the video.
Zombies Ate My Neighbors is one of my favorite snes games! I'd totally get this if I didn't already have the RP2s (but I might try to get one for my dad so we can play retro games together!) Great review!
Got a regular RG35XX last week from Amazon, but don’t care much for the OS offerings or the cramped form factor of that model. Just ordered an H today and gonna try to return/sell the RG35XX. Been using Emulation Station since around the time of NES Mini release. It’s my favorite frontend, too.
I would say that this and the rp2s are the two pocketable ones in this form factor. Teh rp2s being slightly more expensive, now with the frequent discounts.
Thank you ever so much. I am a newby to this and your video guided me through it all. Batocera is a very big improvement and my 11 year old son loves the games I've been able to add to my list
It looks like you know what you are doing but for an old man like me who knows nothing its definitely to hard but you ate a star for putting this video thanks so much awesome bless you
Yup. No moonlight either. This is Alpha stage so I'm sure we'll have lots more improvements very soon. Even still, just as a gaming frontend, it's still totally worth using even at this early stage :)
Hey @TechDweeb Nice video. it really helps a lot! One Question, can we just copy paste the Bios files on the device to the new batocera sd card ? does it need some more files or less than those in the original sd card (64gb)? im asking because the folder seems a real mess ( the sd card that comes with ). Thanks !
i was wondering the same thing, the part where he says a folder for roms and folder for bios, drop the bios in there, he doesnt explain where that bios came from or if we need it from the orignally or what???
I know I'm late to this vid but I'm setting up sd cards while I wait for my rg35xx h, and with Koriki can you have the OS only on a card in slot 1 and the roms on a larger card in slot 2? I see you put them on the card with the OS in slot 1 here, wondering if that's for a reason.
I tried batocera and performance for n64 and dreamcast is way better. Menus are nicer too but hdmi and my xbox controller didn't work so I switch between the two depending on how I want to play
Sorry, I have no idea what I’m doing here! When you update with the UI, do more games get automatically added? I got a 35XX H and I don’t have things like PlayStation games etc
Nope, you have to add the games yourself. If you have the original SD card you can copy the games to the ROMS folder of the new SD card. Check out my updated guide here: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-MVPUu2BWuqw.html
Do you have a guide (or one you could recommend) on adding BIOS files? I'm new to the emulation scene and I've read that the ROMs/BIOS that come with the device aren't good and you should download your own. I think I've got the OS and Roms thing down but I'm still struggling to grasp what BIOS actually are and where you get them and what you need them for. SO yeah, any guide recommendations? :)
wow this looks great, i have the 35xx+ and I wanted dreamcast to run just a little bit better I think with flycast and frame skip will really help. Plus this firmware just looks better I plan to use that noir myself! Now the BIOS can I pull the original card that came with the system? Or I have to get bios for all the emulators I install?
Is the firmware no longer called Koriki? Is Batocera Lite v40 the latest version of this now? Just bought an RG35XXH and wanting this firmware on it but the last Koriki build was in Jan and there's been Batocera Lite builds in March that look more fleshed out - Just checking if the name changed
Flashed to my RG35xx Plus. Love the interface, but does batocera not work with WiFi? I've been trying to get it to work for like an hour now and I feel like I've tried everything. If Wi-Fi doesn't work on this, I'm probably going to switch back to the stock OS. :/
Pretty good review. I used this os for a week now and two things you could also add. You could add roms with ssh / ftp software . The default password are root / linux . Also , dont use eco mode because i find it making snes game sound atrotious like rayman , even worse sometime. And the sleep mode seems to not work fine for now ( huge batery drainage ) .
That I didn't test. This was a quick look. I'm gonna play with it for the next few weeks and keep an eye on the updates and I'll make another video if I have new info or some good tricks to share.
Great video! Thank you for sharing Batocera with community! I had same frustration with OS and tried to find a replacement. And Batocera looks great! I am kinda new to this. Could you please explain what BIOS is (in terms of Retro Gaming) Is it required to add bioses after install? Where do I get those? Thanks!
How do you exit a gane and return to the main menu? Also what happened to the CPS category with this release? How do you access the retroarch menu options?
What bios files are you adding where do you get these files? I found the reddit website to get all roms I need. Don't know where to get these bios files you need seems like a lot
Jut got mine 2 days ago! Any tips on how to fix battery issues? Battery seems to drain even when in complete shut down. Many thanks in advance! Saved this video for future customizations on my handheld.
The batocera alpha boots in 24 seconds and Dreamcast/Saturn performance is sub par. For that you still need the Stock OS! Don't just switch to an alpha full time, it's not there, yet.
I'm planning on full-timing it for a week or so. Maybe I'll get frustrated with the boot times or lack of HDMI but we'll see. Hopefully every issue gets ironed out in future updates 🤞
Boot does take a while, but performance if you use the "extreme" flycast libreto core runs the same as stock OS, stock OS does the job but looks terrible :/ for what I play the alpha version of batocera works excellent, only issues I've had is with final burn neo ROMs that should be running like outfixies or night slashers for some reason they run slow as hell going to try to download the ROMs for the available mame cores I and see if that fix the problem. Also for me I can't seem to make wifi work, if I plug it to LAN cable it works but wifi doesn't work on my device with batocera, it does work with stock OS, so have no clue what's the issue
Hello! Incredible review! One question, which firmware you recommend to play n64 games? I do not know if STOCK OS is better o this CFW could give me a huge performance in this plataform. Thank you so much and nice video!
