The Ride That Made Me Sell My CRF300L..

My favorite about being a contact creator is getting to know people from all over the world, so when Rob hit me up on Instagram wanting to ride I gladly accepted and we loaded up the 300L for its final voyage.. Yes you heard that right. We start out at Lake Pleasant and make our way up to the small mountain village of Crown King. This was by far the most torture I have put this bike through.. I bought the 300L with the intentions of doing a lot of dual sport riding, but the longer that I have been on the road, I have come to the realization that it is just not practical. I travel full time with my dog and I cannot leave him for a long periods of time, and further more I am getting comfortable with my leg again and I am wanting to do more Hard Enduro style riding. So why would I choose this overweight, under powered dual sport as my main dirt bike when there are much better options on the market? I will have a full video coming soon talking about my thoughts on the bike after owning it and putting over 1000 miles on it. But I have made up my mind and a new machine will be coming to the channel very soon!
The ride up was absolutely beautiful and be sure to stay tuned for part 2! Thank you to Rob and Dan for showing me around.

Don’t feel bad, things change and that’s what life is all about. Your opinions about the 300l are still valid for your old riding environment but your new circumstances require a different bike. There are so many great options to choose and my only recommendation is too get a plated bike because it opens up many more areas for you to ride and film. Especially if you plan to travel to other states with different OHV laws/regulations.

I watch your content, waiting on my CRF 300L to arrive. I've been waiting for 4 months or so and it should arrive in 3 weeks. I'm little bit sad, that you decided to sell it, but it's your call. Thanks for entertaining me with CRF 300L content while I was painfully waiting. I'll probably continue to watch your content, but I bumped into you just thanks to CRF 300L. Ride safe! ✌️

No goggles? C'mon man! I would just upgrade the suspension. $1200.00 or so and you could manage those rides. Why can't you have two bikes? One bike is never enough.

Love your work man! , I too have recently sold my 300l. I really liked the bike but wanted something I could go a bit bit further a bit quicker and able to carry more luggage. I bought a T7 and am loving it but still want something a bit lighter to add to the garage in the future. Don't regret selling the 300l as the next dual sport will be at least as light as the 300 but with more power. Good luck with your search...

Yep yep! I had to add a te300i rockstar for the tight mountain woods of NC. Really loving it. Goes well with 300L. But yeah man you can’t enjoy that terrain out there and kick ass like you know you can on a KTM/Husqvarna/GAS GAS. Always appreciate the great content and straight up entertainment AD! Cheers 🏍💨

Can't believe how much I enjoy watching you do wheelies. Before I retired from trucking I just hated those guys doing wheelies at 50 mph in front of me on the highway. I knew with one screw-up and they would flat as a pancake and I would have to live with that the rest of my life.

I used to think people decide what chances they take and have already accepted the loss or gains of the situation. Don't feel bad about it. In my working life i hated my job and was always angry and that was the kind of thinking that prevailed in my mind. Retired now five years and seem to have given things a lot of thought and decided a lot of good people make bad mistakes they are not recovering from. In 2018 in Tampa Fl. a teen was involved in an accident that led to the death of pedestrians. He was racing his buddy down the street and hit a woman pushing a baby stroller. The judge was in tears explaining the minimum standards in sentencing guidelines. You Tube. A harsh reality..

Great stuff as always Tanner. I have a 250 CRF-L. I upgraed the rear with a Hagon (UK firm) & a HyperPro on the front. The bike never bottoms and has tranformed the bike. My skills are nowhere near yours but the local green lanes are very chalky with loads of stones everywhere, so similar but milder than the early part of this video. Both mods were less than £450 to buy. My confidence as a returning rider, has accelerated, exponetially since the mods. Just a thought for other owners of CRF250/300s. Cheers, Miles

You inspired me to get my 250l and it was a great first bike, but I have since sold it for a KTM XC-W 300. I do miss the dual sport because I loved taking my boy on little rides and doing exploration from my house, but the 300 is epic and it opens up more opportunities to ride with people.

I'll add another vote for Beta. I sold my 450L and got a 390 Beta. I definitely recommend giving them a try. The clutch and fueling are excellent. The seat is the worst I've ever sat on, but a Seat Concepts tall seat fixes that nicely.

I rode and still have a klx 250. But learned it can’t do the trails like I want. I live by Calgary in western Canada and lots of endless trials out here. I kept the klx for commutes and dual sporting. But for the trails and the roads to get there I bought a beta 430 rrs. I would recommend either that or a 390 rrs.

DR650 or XR650R or XR650L. Those 3 are amazing middle weight adventure/dual sport bikes. My go to would be the DR650 but if you want something a little more dirtbike oriented then a DR-Z400 would be the way to go. However, for desert riding the legendary liquid cooled Baja race bike, the XR650R would be the king if you can find a decent one for the right price and if not then you can go with it's slightly more street oriented air cooled younger brother known as the XR650L. DR650 is a good all around bike. It's oil cooled and does a good job with most terrain. Although I've heard the DR650 has very soft suspension out of the factory. Good luck!

I have a 2020 250L. I love it. I changed the gearing for more power down low. I do not hwy drive it much anyway. It is for me a 75% trail bike. I upgraded the suspension to Ohlins. That made a world of difference. A completely different bike. To me the bike is perfect now. Great suspension, now, and just enough power to do anything I ask of it but not enough to get me into too much trouble.

My vote is a newer KLX300r. It has all the modern conveniences you want (Electric Start/Fuel Injection) and is plush and smooth. It is a fat pig for a dirt bike at 282lbs stock, but still a decent bit lighter than that 300L. I put a lithium battery and exhaust to shave a couple pounds plus a dyno jet to uncork it. That boosted the power a small bit and kept the pipe from glowing red from being lean. It mostly helped shave a couple pounds off the top. No idea how much, maybe 6lbs. I live in Arizona and ride extremely similar stuff to the stuff in your video and the klx is pretty good. If you want to barrel ass though the desert whoops this is not the bike for you. Note I weigh 145lbs before gear and have the clickers set to 5 out of 20.

Made 3 trips on that route with 3 different bikes over the years. Wr250r/701 Husky/ KTM 300. The 701 trip was scary with a foot of water roaring down the super rough section by the mine then snow/ice on top. Actually came back the easy way on the Bloody Basin road. Wr handled fair and KTM with suspension sprung properly was a blast. Suspension is without doubt the key to making that ride fantastic and 60 pounds less machine sure didn't hurt.

my buddy has a wr250r which is similar. The main thing I dont like is you have to spin it up pretty high to get any torque out of it, which takes a half a second or so, which can be a big deal. I like my (modified) dr650 which is essentially infinite torque right off the get go.

That said the idea of meeting others from around the world certain resonates. I spent a year riding in Israel and have some great friends and memories from that time. Like the idea of linking up with more people and seeing what they're all about and having some laughs and ride time. (PS I ride KTMs lol!) Try the 500exc for sure. I ended up getting a deal on a 21’ Husqvarna ef350s with 261mi and thousand of $ into the bike for $7500 and it’s literally brand new owned by a guy in his late 60’s. So I couldn’t pass up the deal and I love the bike, I’m just waiting for the temps to go down in AZ to start riding in a regular basis.

After owning the 19' crf450l with vortex and fmf, 20' wr450f , 15' and 17' yz250fx, and 21' beta 430rr-s I can say the 20+ ktm 350xcf-w and Husky fe350 are amazing bikes with just a $250 jdtuner. 250 agility and close to 450 power when rung out, the 350 rips and has no problem pulling the front end up in 3rd with just throttle. The 500 vibes to much for me and is not playfull like the 350. I ride the 350, the 500 rides me lol. Also youtube is lacking review videos on the ktm/husky 350, lots of views to be had. If WI ends up in your travels, come ride my 22' 350

I can definitely see wanting a more serious, dedicated machine for riding that type of terrain frequently...

The 300L’s a great beginner bike but if you favor more advanced terrain a street legal dirtbike’s the ticket and if your gonna connect trails and hit the pavement from time to time the 500exc won’t disappoint. It’s a completely different machine than the 450L

Your experience on the 300 is real and just like Ian on his channel Big Rock media both reviews give a realistic view of the limitations of the bike. I would rather my limitations derive from the desire to open the throttle as experience grows.

Man , I have done that ride many times from quads to dirt bikes and it can be rough for me specially in a quad , I had friends turn around right at the rock garden… any ways I have been thru some bikes and played with the whole light adventure dirt bike setup, and my conclusion so far is Beta 390 and 500 rrs. I’m in heaven… ride my 500 from home thru freeways to single track and to 2000 mile rides to Baja and back home . If u still here near Phoenix I’ll let u try.

I have a 300l, a 350exc, and a yz125x. If I can only have one bike it's gonna be the 350exc. But I still love the 300l for what it is, a sight seeing/ exploring bike.

Looks like a great ride! 👍 Reminds me alot of my regular rides in Big Bear here in So Cal. If that stuff is your norm, I'd say its time to move up to a more dirt oriented DS also.

You ever take the 2N02 to Pioneertown? I used to bomb up and down it on my XR200 but never made it that far.

@@salazam I have. I usually ride the stuff on the north side. Gold Mountain, John Bull, Holcomb MSR trail and Dishpan into Cedar Glen for food. Then back.

Yeah I get it I never even rode my 300 l stock as soon as I got it it was terrible weather in the winter time here in Washington so I pretty much did all the mods that you did plus I did the full Yoshi system DNA filter 550 performance 91 octane flash and then now the full k-tech suspension for a 240 lb Rider this thing is f****** badass now but yeah it's a $9,000 bike now
