Listen to Hee Sang as she shares her inspirational journey to uncover why it is ridiculous to compare yourself to others.
Hee Sang Hong (Like ‘Pisang’ with an ‘H’) is a 17 years old Korean student who is currently studying for her ‘A’ levels in Brunei Darussalam. TED, TEDx, and TED-Ed, all three of them have been her most loved channel in RU-vid after encountering them by chance few years ago. Becoming a TEDx speaker, or at least speaking in front of a crowd about what she has in her mind, has been always on her bucket list. In the future she hopes to become a leading forensic pathologist and perhaps, talk on the TEDx stage again about her profession.
This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Learn more at ted.com/tedx

Hi Hee Sang Hong, What a great talk! I'm a counsellor and I thought you did very well and covered so many good points. I liked it so much that I decided to play it to the members of the anxiety support group I run. Well done again!

I get her points but for me it's not so much that I wish I was the same as that person I'm comparing myself to, but more why am I not them? I often want to swap lives with someone else. Or wonder why were they born into that life and not me.

Two Reasons: (1) You cannot do a switch, so it is futile to wonder along these lines. There is no benefit at all, on the other hand, you pull yourself down. So you have to keep reiterating to yourself that this is unhelpful and you have to avoid thinking alone these lines. (2) Life is a great equalizer. Everybody's life includes good and bad. You see the good stuff in someone else's life and you wonder why you are not them. But if you see the bad stuff as well, you would conclude that you would like to be who you are rather than them.

Don't compare apples and oranges. You are the only one best at being YOU! :)

This was exactly what I needed to hear. I've had trouble being proud of my own accomplishments and successes for the past few years. Despite all that I've accomplished at such a young age, I sit here and look at other people and compare myself to them. I tear myself down and fret over how different I am compared to these people, when I should instead be celebrating how far I've come. Sitting idly by and staring at others will get nothing done. We all need to realize that time comparing ourselves to others is nothing but wasted time and energy and is absolutely worthless to us. We all come from different walks of life, and as such we all are unique, with our own talents, likes, dislikes, and dreams.

Glad to hear this. I have no right to compare my self to others or vice versa

Content aside: This is probably the worst filmed TEDx talk of all time. I mean... just... no.
