I remember reading an article as a kid in Dynamite magazine about “Stayin Alive”. They had a interview with Travolta about getting in shape for the movie and had a before and after pic showing how pudgy Travolta was before he started working out. I’ll never forget Travolta’s quote about how he got pudgy: “Cookies are very important to me”.
Funny I found this comment. I was just thinking about this today. These guys get paid to just sit around and talk like guys. Like in the old O&A days. I would not mind doing that for a living. But then again, I dont have many friends I can still talk to like this. I have a friend who got all weird and shit during the pandemic. And now he's one of those weird effeminate "put my woman up on a pedestal" kind of guy. He cant even have honest objective conversation about being a man and women and dating etc. Shit that you should be able to talk about even if you're in a relationship. But this guy is like a hardcore Beyonce fan because his girl is. And he's constantly posting on social media about how "something is wrong with men if they don't worship their woman". My fucking blood runs cold from the cringe every time he posts something about "family" or "living to make your girl happy" etc.
@@negativeindustrial yeah he watched a lot of TV and films and had an intelligent regular guy view on things with a certain sideways take that made you think or sometimes change your mind. Ant is similar in many ways and that's why the 2 of them discussing films are among the most watched O&A clips.

I've never watched Staying Alive. Or Saturday Night Fever, for that matter. The only thing I know about Staying Alive is that Richie Sambora plays in it.

If you watch enough of the 70s series youll see they used this one neighborhood of houses in several different series. For instance youll see the Beaver Cleaver house used in the Marcus Welby MD series. One episode was quite weird as it guess starred Ward as visiting Dr.Welby's house for dinner, and he went for a nap upstairs afterwards AND DIED in his old Cleaver house!! 🤣
I saw that movie several times as a kid cause my mom loved Travolta. He was still a sex symbol to clueless women my moms age. Even now if I told her he was into men she wouldn’t believe me. Anyways it’s her fault “Far from over” is on most of my playlists.

I agree. In fairness to Dave, though, in this particular instance, he did see both Saturday Night Fever and Stayin’ Alive, and some of his jokes in this video, particularly about Stayin’ Alive, are pretty funny and on point.
That’s the only problem with Dave being Ant’s sidekick. Ant has 20 years on Dave and Ant is the king of 60s, 70s, & 80s references and impressions which Dave wasn’t even born yet to know these pop references well enough to be able to “riff” with Ant on, like lil Yimmy was always able to do on O & A.
I’m a kid of the 80s & and love all 80s & 70s movies and even older I’ve seen most I’m also an expert on hard rock & metal & pop culture but I’ve not seen staying alive…
Jay has excellent TV references that's why I'm so surprised he doesn't remember that 'MANNIX' premiered 2 YRS BEFORE 'THE BRADY BUNCH. 'Mannix' dropped in Sept. of 1967 and T.B.B., likewise Sept. only it was 1969. I remember seeing it a few yrs ago in an episode of 'Mission Impossible'. One should remember that 'The Brady Bunch' was NOT ''iconic" in the '60s or '70s. It wasn't till much later that this show rose 'Above its atation'.
One of first few times smokin pot a few of us got high one night and ended up on my buddy's couch scrolling through channels and Saturday Night Fever just started so we decide to watch it, nobody had seen it before (it was around 2002) . I don't think I've ever laughed so hard and for so long in my life. Its sooo over dramatic, its like its the spoof of some other film about the same thing.
Yeah I remember watching it on cable circa 1995 with my sister one afternoon when nothing was on. Couldn't believe how cheesy and gay it was and that it was a sequel to SNF.
Travolta in the best shape of his life an does the best Manero nothing wrong with this movie especially watching these hot woman dancing. Travolta looks hot too. It's ok to like attractive men guys it's ok hahaha it won't make you gay.
12:37 Mannix was filmed at Desilu Studios & I guess they were invested in production as well. Lucy suggested the change from Mannix being a computer nerd tied to a HUGE TECH Agency - and the character be the gum shoe type who did his own investigation & the HARD KNOCKS detective that we can thank her for seeing that poor man get CLOCKED the fuk OUT in every episode in the second incarnation of the show. Regardless if she had an ax to grind with Desi perhaps- it sure BEAT the original premise. And yes, the theme song is excellent as we're so many others of the era!! Mike Connors was a gifted athlete in more than one sport, Armenian & from a tough background in real life & had strong moral standards & did his own stunts whenever possible as well. No slouch & no scandals. Something rather rare the among Hollywood lot I'd say.
I preferred when Ant started out the Compound. It was just him making fun of internet stuff and he could still do impressions then. Stopped subscribing after Gavin left, it wasn't worth it any more.
@Jade Runner I cancelled my subscription... You think I should delete a free youtube subscription? Its not that bad but its not worth paying for, even though I still enjoy Ant on his own.
