Lars Schneider lives with his family in Norway. The winter up there lasts about six months - and yet he has nonetheless opted for an E-cargo bike as his everyday mode of transport. He tells us in a video how this came about.
@@DoggyDinnerTime Yes, wife jumped in :) and many trips with my 1 1/2 year old daughter. Took the full house model, kinderkap makes it lovely in our cold and rainy weather and gx option gives you that extra grip for dirt road.

if the roads you drive on are rugged or if you want to ride a bike over unpaved paths: choose the load. And do yourself a favour and by the load75 from the start!
Why is this special? Because even in most rural areas the longest you would have to travel to the next town is less than 10km. So nothing for a ebike less than half an hour trip. If it seems special to anyone it is only a sign on how idiotic the society is. I never owned a car. I could buy one the next day if I would want to, but walking and cycling keeps me in better condition and if I really need a car twice a year I could just ask my parents or friends if they would let me use it/drive me to the next hardware store to pick up big heavy whatever.
Beautiful and informative! Looking to pick up 60 or 75. Haven’t seen them in person yet as the closest dealer is some 6hrs away. Planning on taking the drive in the Spring. So I’ll make the decision then! Leaning toward the 75 though. Is everything as you’d wish of the bike at this point?
One thing to remember is that we are still probably burning some fossil fuels to generate the electricity to charge the e-bike battery. So it isn’t 100% eco friendly.
But why does a much more complex and extremely well-equipped BMW CE 04 cost as much as a top-equipped R&M cargo bike with far fewer components and technology? I think the manufacturer of cargobikes should optimise their workflow and share more components as manufacturer of cars and motorcycles do. With a price between 9000 -11000€ the average earning people will not get lured from their car to a cargobike.
While for some purposes, shurely an electric scooter is a better solution, it still seems like comparing a roadster like Mazda MX-5 to a BMW X5... Or a Star Destroyer. Riding an electric bike feels so much more effortless, lightweight, not engine-driven... while still being high-quality and low-maintenance (belt drive, vario shift)... That freedom is worth quite a lot for some of us - and can't compare at all to any electric scooter
@@kadarka_man I listed the scooter not because I doubt the purpose of the cargo bike, but because a much more elaborately built electric vehicle (the scooter) costs almost as much as a rather sparsely equipped cargo bike. My point was to show that the cargo bikes that are sold at 10000-11000€, which is far too high, when a much more complex vehicle can be produced and sold for almost the same price. Or much less like a KTM Motorbike which is sold for about 6000€. Unfortunately, cargo bikes are still seen as hype for richer people instead of producing them more cheaply for the masses.
Bikes are cheaper to run, and it is also lifestyle issue. The bike may cost 11000€, but does it allow me to live the lifestyle I prefer, and where is the workout I get with an e-scooter? There are cheaper alternatives too.
@@vfclists Yes this "lifestyle" marketing shit makes the things unnecessary expensive. Fashion addicts are willing to pay more than they should… And as I already wrote I do not claim the e scooter as an alternative to an eBike. It shows only that these R&M and other cargobikes are overpriced. Or they should reorganize their production…
You are not accurate with numbers and broad assumptions.. BMW CE04 is 13600 EU, for example in Belgium. No options. Its cargo capacity is minuscular. Load 60 with dual batteries and other options is 8100 EU. It has 60 kg cargo capacity. Most components are shared, in bikes industry for many decades, BTW. Load series of cargo bikes are trails capable. Beamer is not. So, you have to compare correctly. For surfaces CE04 (13600) EU is only capable where are front and long tail cargo e-bikes for as low as 3100 EU. Which 10 000 EU difference.
@@sanhestar Yes, it is a bit too much if you see what materials, development, mechanic and electric components are packed in a car compared to a bike like this which has much less components. And i read often that the teleskop fork is prone to rust and has to maintained very often… This for a 9000€ Bike? For me as a average or more a bit below average earner it would be worth max. 4000€ but never 9000€ Bikes like this are overpriced because it are Yuppie/Hipster lifestyle consumables and not just tools. When some days they become less fashionable but more a workhorse for working people the prices might drop…
@@SD_Alias I think the production in Germany under fair workers conditions and low quantities produced have a price to it. Is it cheap? No, but they are produced with sustainability in mind and can be used for many years when we'll maintained.
@@SD_Alias Sure you can get an electric cargo bike for 4000€, too. Riese & Muller is towards the high-end of that spectrum, and also, the Load is quite one-of-a-kind among cargo bikes. Also, it retains its value used much more than a car.
@@kadarka_man Is there a solid electric Long John style Cargobike for 4000€? I found only some flimsy or not well equipped 3 wheeler for that money. Which are still too expensive for what they offer. As long a good cargo bikes costs as much or more than a used car or a new motorbike not many people will change to e-Bikes and keep buying combustion vehicle.
