This is a track which unfortunately is unavailable on the official "The Right Stuff" soundtrack. This is the revised edition of John Glenn's Friendship 7 Launch suite containing Gustav Holst' The Planets: Mars, the Bringer of War, Jupiter, the Bringer of Jollity and Neptune, the Mystic; and an excerpt from Henry Mancini's "The White Dawn" Symphonic Suite.

I love this film.. The three originals themes was "Mars", "Jupiter" and "Uranus", from Gustav Holst.

I like the irony in the juxtaposition between the name 'Friendship 7' and the use of a track subtitled 'the Bringer of War'.

"Mars: The Bringer of War", "Jupiter: The Bringer of Jollity", and "Neptune: The Mystic", came from a CD made in 1990, directed by James Levine. The other half is a segment from the "The White Dawn" soundtrack by Henry Mancini :)

The version used in the film was the Boston Philharmonic, conducted by Seiji Ozawa. Kind of a hard CD to find. But it's really neat to listen to the whole score and hearing those cues, saying "Good Lord, ride all the way! Godspeed, John Glenn!"

Good as it is, the soundtrack CD only features the Bill Conti pieces. This is a link I found listing all non Bill Conti music from The Right Stuff. www.imdb.com/title/tt0086197/soundtrack Includes Holst's "The Planets" pieces which is The Boston Symphony Orchestra on a Philips Records (Polygram Classics) recording. I assume that the movie sound team edited the 3 tracks together for the scene.

The part where the launch music starts at 0:44. Is there an extended version of that? It seemed longer in the movie, and it seems "cut off" in this version. I know it's Mars Bringer of War, but the movie version IS SO MUCH better than any version I find online.

The recording of Gustav Holst's "Mars, Jupiter & Neptune" on "The Right Stuff" original soundtrack is the Boston Symphony Orchestra conducted by Seiji Ozawa.

@AlphonseZukor The album I have is performed by the Chicago Symphony Orchestra. I honestly don't know if it is the same version Bill Conti used in the film though... I find it doubtful, but I could be wrong. I'm glad you enjoyed the suite though!

Ahh...the missing piece! I can die a happy man. I especially liked the transition at 2:06 well done. By the way do you know which orchestra you used for the Holst pieces and if it was the same orchestra that Bill Conti ripped for the movie?

What album did this come from or did it come from several? Did you mix them together or was it a singular track? I was hoping that when The Right Stuff Soundtrack came out it would have this but alas it did not. If I can support good music like this by purchasing it, I'd like to.
