Castle Keep from late 1960s one of Legrand's best kept secrets warranting greater exposure. Opening section mixes sprinting jazz vocals in Baroque manner (reminiscent of Les Swingles) tempered by flowing poetic, strings, organ and vocals. Upshot an evocative musical soundscape.
The soundtrack has been recorded in part only on a box set of Legrand's film music. If you're a Legrand buff it's worth it I've been posting some on Ifcopod. . Two sections are on Ifcopod Burt Bacharach's similar vintage. South American Getaway from Butch Cassidy comes to mind . A close call between Bacharach and Legrand both with Swingle singers jazzy touches but Legrand probably covers a wider range. Not that I'd say boo to anything by Bacharach. South American Getaway probably Bacharach's most elaborate vocal piece with soaring solo vocals Anyway I love both two excellent composer musicians.
