Have you noticed that in all the anime and even in the movies, when someone draws and puts the sword back into the Saya, there's a metallic sound as if the Koiguchi or the Saya were made of iron, which isn't true. Putting a katana back into its saya makes a wooden noise at most. After that, I suppose it's all for show. But it's very misleading.
@DeusExMachina010101
@DeusExMachina010101 Год назад
Wow, I'm impressed by the sound your katana makes when it simply cuts through empty space. Mine does, but clearly not as loud. Maybe it's because the microphone is so close and the walls of the piece are so close, or maybe it's better technique (that's for sure :) ). I'll try again in a room smaller than my living room.

But don't watch shogo for this. All he showed isn't practical and efficient at all. Better learn some hema longsword practice, many feature from longsword applies to katana. But very practical and efficient, katana is more like traditions, culture which absolutely unneeded if u want to learn how to fight with sword, not just being model.

Maybe explaining/ teaching and learning, both required it's own way. No offense, even the most experienced athletes sometimes had a difficulty to pass/ explained their skill to their partners, compared to the trainer that not only explains, even able to notice a small mistake and correct that right away.

There are two types of people in this world. People who as a kid would break a oversized stick to make it shorter more like a normal sword/katana. And people who as a kid, keep the oversized stick to use it like if they were Darth Maul.

I really like that you included information about left handed people. I joined fencing for a while and we could just go with our dominant side. To find that out our instructor pushed us in the back and depending on which foot we used to stabilize ourself that one was our dominant side.

Thanks, I was able to commission a katana recently and it's a little bit overbuilt. This video helped me immensely in knowing how to use it safely and effectively. I have about a Year's practice under my belt in European hand and a half sword but upon holding my katana for the first time I realized it was a completely different beast. This video I hope is the first step in a further education on this particular blade. I really love my sword and I couldn't be more proud to be in possession of it, to use it with respect instead of fear of accidentally chopping myself to pieces is a great relief and a huge justice towards katana itself. I have subscribed and I'm looking forward to more videos hopefully you give us some more training.

Menuki are the decorative additions to the Tsuka which give physical feeling of your Katana while you look at your enemy, you know where your hands are. Many swords have outstanding examples of art and craft. They also add to total quality of the sword, but not the quality of the blade. The blade is and always will be the value of the katana. Shogo is very wise for a young man. Peace and prosperity. サムライフィル

That is a very nice looking katana! Is the tsuka wrapped in leather?

The right way to FIGHT with your Katana: 1. Have your Katana in your sheath. 2. Draw 3. Shoot 4.Holster 5. (Optional) After your gun is safely holstered, draw and sheath your Katana - for the feels.
