What Takashii said about cherry blossoms struck a chord with me. Regarding hanami from that perspective, it can be transferred to human lives as well. Practice every day, just so that in one fleeting moment, you can put all that training to use. It gave me a new source of motivation for my karate practice.
First time visiting Japan I went to Kyoto. I was lost, and this Japanese woman in her 20's came up to me and started speaking English, asking me if I was lost. When I answered her in Japanese, she seemed quite disappointed.
as a non-japanese Indian, I love the ideology of bushido. I come from a hindu warrior class/caste that was a part of a caste system that doesnt really exist any more in modern India. Our warrior clans are found in Hindu mythology of the gods. They had to fight, resist the Arab Islamic invasions from 800 AD to 1500 AD then struggle to remain in power in their warring states against the Muslim Mughal Empire which rule most of India until 1750 AD. Unlike the samurais, the HIndu warrior groups are cherished because they saved our ancient religion and ancient culture from becoming extinct from the Islamic aggression. Most Indians do cherish them
> why do Japanese love to drink so much? Not really. According to WHO, the average Japanese alcohol intake in 2020 was 63rd in the world, which is not even that high.
So interesting and thought provoking. Cannot agree though that groupism is the ultimate reason for politeness and cleanliness. Cf. Russian and some other collectivist nations. Also socialism and groupism correlate, but not the same, etc. What seems important for a nation make-up is not only the particular set of values that they choose at some point as their foundation (aka. group survival, unquestioned loyalty, humbleness, self-discipline, etc.), very telling is the type of constructs and processes you build around it with time, and ultimately the quality of life and, yes, aesthetics. So. Major human value cluster typolgies are roughly six-nine (Jung, Enneagram and such), whereas actual idiosyncrasies are much, much more varied... Luckily😅
The Hiroshima interview was informative and emotional. I agree, Takashii should do more historical interviews, maybe around geological events, tsunamis, etc. Wonderful interview gents. 👍❤
I believe alcohol itself plays a role, too. It takes away the need to inhibit and unwind tensions with other people. Thus, it's much easier to communicate without too many constraining formalities.
You are my two fav bloggers in Japan! Both of you have fantastic and culturally important videos. I especially loved the interview with the woman who survived the bombing of Hiroshima. ❤❤
Great talk, interesting and informative ! But if I may : no, you can't have a decent appartement (meaning more than 10 square meters per people) in central Tokyo for an average salary.
This is all Asian people. It's a mongol genetics personality trait, and sepecifically genetics predisposed to extreme conservativism and right-wing politics. Science has shown that political dispositions are detrmined by genetics, and specifically brain structure. Liberals and conservatives have different brain structures. Asian peoples have genetics for conservative brains. And that explains the historical cultures associated with mongoloid races.
I cycled through a a rural town near where I live in Japan. The town was full of dilapidated houses and closed down businesses but at the middle of the town was a newly renovated pachinko packed with customers. Even where I live, I have 3 pachinkos within 10 mins of walking time. It seems like they are one on the most booming business around.
@letsaskshogo You mentioned the katana being used to cut the belly... As I understand it it was the wakizashi or the tanto that was used for this action. Feels like a katana would be a bit unvieldly to get angled up your own belly. Did you misspeak, or am I uninformed?
Mr. Shogo, the next time you talk to Takashi Could you ask him if he has interviewd nikkei people living in Japan? They are foreigners but they look japanese because they are children and grandchildren of japanese immigrants to the US, Brazil, Peru. How do they feel about living in their ancestors land?, Some nikkei have relatives born and raised in Japan (uncles, aunts, cousins) Do they treat them like locals of foreigners?
