Thanks for the info, I inherited my grandparents place with 12 acres and approx 450 pear trees, beautiful trees, panted in 1990, all the vines and thorn bushes have to go, can you top the tall trees this winter when I prune them

Another GREAT video. I have an Olympic Asian pear tree that I quite frankly don't know how to harvest in North Idaho. They are nice round pears but very hard. I've tried to ripen them on the tree and off the tree and they are just - hard! I'm thinking about replacing it. Any help will be appreciated. BTW, we made the cordial that you posted in raspberry and blackberry and shared the outstanding recipe with friends. It's a hit!

Great video! I think Laura slightly misspeaks at about 2:15 when she tells you to lift the pear "45 degrees" to see if it will snap off. I think she actually meant "lift it 90 degrees" (until it's horizontal), which is exactly what she actually does. Otherwise, lots of good tips!

I wonder if she meant to take them to 90 degrees, and then 45 degrees more, because that is what she did before the pear snapped off.

Is there a list somewhere of summer pears vs storage pears?

Pear tree close to me. They are mostly round (asian). Today 8/18/22 a couple have fallen into the street. Would the 45 degree snap test be the best way to determine time to pick them? Ripen then in a paper bag, and approx. how long? Thank you for your guidance, and all the best from New Rochelle N.Y.

Yes, though Asian Pears ripen on the tree, not on the counter. Still, they come off the same way and are ready to eat immediately.
