Thank you. I kinda figured this was the case regarding pear ripening, but didn’t know I needed to bring them inside the house in a cooler environment then out on my patio. also didn’t know exactly how long it took for them to ripen. I have a pear tree with green pears and I think they maybe Bartlett, but I don’t know for sure. Again thanks for the video because now I feel a lot more confident about what I’m doing with them.
Awesome video. I’ve bought a house with a pear tree and I have no clue when to pick them. They’re very hard and very dark green. I’ll bring a few in and see how they ripen.
We put in a pear tree a m d was surprised when it grew 4 different types! We love it. The first crop went bad, didn't know. But the since the second crop I told the kids "if it comes off easily it wants to be off" we love our pear tree!
Don't know what kind of pear tree, but crunchy and not real sweet, think it's some sort of Asian Pear and learned a lot about when to pick. Have canned many of them.
I have a pear tree with plenty pears. Should I just take them off the tree since bugs are just eating them off? As you said, it is the end of July and they are kind of red-ish.
I bought a house last year that has a good sized taller pear tree. I don’t know what kind it is, but my first year here it didn’t produce much fruit, I thought it was because of moles. I removed a few dead branches in the winter, and this year there are so many pears on it, plus it is a taller tree than the ones I see on peoples videos. Any suggestions on how to tell the variety, and tips or tricks on how to reach the upper fruit? Thanks.
Glad it is producing for you. It may have just needed some more chill hours. Also, pears really like to be pruned. Keep the tree short by pruning off those tall branches and shoots. It is hard to tell the variety. Start with your local Ag Extension office to see if they have images of the different pear tree varieties and match it with yours.
I think I’m in zone 8b also but how do I know for sure? I’m really needing to watch and learn from someone in the same zone and preferably in same state as I am.
Hello! Thank you for the video. Our pear tree in the local area was broken by teenagers (which is very sad). Its pears had colour but the fruit didn't come off the tree easily. We picked them anyway and wonder if they can be used somehow. You are saying they won't ripen. Any tips on what can be done with them? Thank you in advance.
How hard are they? They will continue to ripen from the core outward while sitting on your counter. However if they didn't make it to a certain stage of maturity, they won't be usable. Cut one open and taste test it..
@@CountryLivingExperience Thank you for the reply. They are hard. We will taste them. I guess if they are still sour after a week and the pips aren't dark, they won't ripen more. Am I right?
Yes, absolutely. We canned those very pears the next week and did a video on it. Here is the vid link: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-05a0-_ivbxg.html
Fruit just being on the ground does not give it salmonella. The soil has to be contaminated. But that is why you should wash all fruit before cutting(watermelon, cantaloupe, squash) and consuming.
