Going through mold remediation? Make sure you hire a 3rd party to oversee the work. Not all remediation companies are great, in fact, most are pretty horrible. But there are some great ones out there. You just have to make sure they do it right. This company did a great job with its containment!

I still don’t get why air getting sent outside is first getting filtered. Seems it would be best to remove the filters from the airscrubber to get more negative air pressure.

air blown outside the house can blow back in via other areas (roof, crawl space, windows, doors etc.) why not capture them and throw them away than blow them back into the house or into the yard.

@@cathycooke Ok, that makes sense, but I guess it depends on the rest of the setup. We had a mold removal company come in and the only air scrubber that they setup was the one right in front of the window where it was getting blown out.

The actual reason for this is so that everything that comes into contact with the air scrubber in capture and removed. If there were no filters the spores have a better chance of aerosolizing through the area. It has absolutely nothing to do with the "air might come back into the house". That's actually one of the silliest things I've head in this industry.

Can you have an air scrubber in a containment area without a sleeve blowing it out a window? Is that still safe?
@cathycooke

it's important to have negative air pressure to make this effective. A HEPA filter may be helpful, but there are too many variables to give a solid answer of it being 'safe' or not.

It's not the standard according to the s520 you could answer it that way. It's because the remit company is going to bill for 2 air scrubbers instead of just one. If you're confident in the containment barriers, then the fan is creating a neutral air pressure. There is no negative air since it's not pulling from anywhere AND blowing in the same containment.

Typically you want to blow the super clean filtered air out of the containment, through the air scrubber, and back into the house to keep neutral pressure in the home. Then keep the cycle going so the entire home has filtered air. If you blow it outside the window, air will need to come back into the house from somewhere and its going to come up through the crawlspace or down through the attic hatch, and that air is even nastier than the air you are trying to remove. It can contain even more mold, or dust from mouse, rat, bat droppings, even asbestos if you have vermiculite in your attic. Also air from outside the home has a ton of mold spores in it and if you are trying to pass a mold abatement clearance test, you will fail. Maybe in this case it had to be done that way, I wasn't there

What company did you use for the mold remediation ?

Great explanation! After everything I've been learning, I'm not surprised most mold remediator's protocols are poorly done. I'm probably going to be doing it myself because i don't trust they will do a careful job as i will, unfortunately. Save me a headache, money, and possibly long term health.

I just had Green Clean leave after demolition, and they left very strong positive air flow going into the house. They did not cover the vent, and when I called to complain they said the containment is mainly for dust and humidity... I'm spitting nails at these horrible people.

ugh, so sorry to hear this. if they left positive air pressure into the house, then they're not controlling for dust!!
