Lots of people want the Stranger not to be Gandalf, mainly they want him to be one of the two Blue Wizards. My reaction to him being Gandalf was like yours. Getting to see his backstory is so rewarding, I couldn't think of not having that in this story.
That is likely why they said that, "He is the other". From what we know, Tolkien had two ideas of what may have happened to the blue wizards.. He thought that maybe they had been corrupted and began working with the forces of Sauron.. OR They remained good and worked in subtle but significant ways to influence the shape of the East. So, I am feeling that this show is working with both ideas by applying one idea to one wizard, and the other to the other wizard.. When they said that he is the other, I feel that they are already familiar with the blue wizards.. Maybe Sauron had influenced both wizards to join him in his attempt to "heal" middle earth, but this blue wizard began to notice the nefarious intentions and decided to break off.. Then they likely killed him, which he was then sent back to earth by the Valar to carry out his good deed.. This is why they keep emphasizing that he is here to help and that he is good, etc... We do not know much about the East, and that seems to be where the show is going to be heading with this Wizard, and given that Gandalf had never gone East, it would be insanely cool to explore places that have not been explored all that much! But I would definitely bet my life that he is not Gandalf owing to my theory, and also to the fact that my theory includes the reality that Gandalf does not show up until the Third Age: this is the Second Age.. I have shared this theory right after this episode in my Facebook groups, and it has gotten a lot of support, as many Tolkien fans agree that this would not only be as close to canon as the writers can get while simultaneously having a wide range of freedom, but that it would also bring in many great story lines. I am really hoping that the writers are smart enough to pull this off though rather than just making the wizard Gandalf.... Gandalf is one of my top 3 favorites in the LOTR universe; however it would be extremely lazy of them to go that route, and it would not do Gandalf ANY justice whatsoever (I would still thoroughly enjoy it though lol!) I went off trail a bit here, as my original point was the idea behind the two blue wizards and their connections to the phrase, "He is the other" and the incessant emphasis all show long about how he is here to help and that he is good. Just my thoughts! What do you think? :)
@@sauron3570 I would like you to be correct. But, if you are not, I feel like you would explode with rage. That was a very specific set of circumstances, that I feel like you'll go Hulk on if it didn't go that way. lol
This is the worst show in television history. Please dont think this abomination has anything to do with the actual lore in the books. They didnt follow anything and none of these events actually happened or makes any sense.
