Top climbing specialist ever, based on the stats. That is this rider who set the quickest times ever up Mont Ventoux (46:00) and Alpe d'Huez (36:50) during the Tour de France? Here in this video, we will address all of your concerns and questions.
Italian road racer Marco Pantani, who passed away on February 14, 2004, was born on January 13, 1970, and is usually considered the best climbing specialist in cycling history. His fastest ascents of Mont Ventoux (46:00) and Alpe d'Huez (36:50) in the Tour are still the fastest of all time, and legends like Lance Armstrong and Charly Gaul have praised Pantani for his exceptional climbing ability. In 1998 he became the sixth Italian to win the Tour de France, following Ottavio Bottecchia, Gino Bartali, Fausto Coppi, Felice Gimondi, and Gastone Nencini. Only seven cyclists have ever won both the Giro and the Tour in the same year; he is the last to do it.
Fans of the sport in the late '90s loved Pantani for his aggressive riding style and offensive approach. Because of his shaved head, bandana, and earrings, he became known as "Il Pirata" (The Pirate). He was described as having the ideal height and weight for a mountain climber, at 1.72 meters (5.6 feet) and 57 kilograms (126 lb). It has been said that his style is similar to that of time-trialing specialists like Miguel Indurain, a five-time Tour champion.

Best climber I ever saw. Was lucky [and privileged] enough to ride alongside him during the rollout of the 1998 TDF in Dublin. Saw him again atop Mount Ventoux when he outsprinted 'Arsehole' Armstrong to win that stage of the 2000 TDF. RIP il pirata.

I appreciate your work, but your pronunciation of names is so bad it's downright annoying. At least learn the names of the big races and the best cyclists.I hope you take this criticism constructively.

Treated as scapegoat by UCI and labeled as cheater for an entire context, peloton and era doing exactly the same. He never accepted the weight of personal shame and hypocrisy all on him.

People are still but hurt that pantini was full to the brim on epo? At least Armstrong admitted it in the end. Pantini took his lie to the grave.

The fall of Pantani was caused by the sabotage in Madonna di Campiglio.
