I was so upset by them removing Lady Googoo from the game and replacing her with Baby Rox that I actually sent a complaint email asking where Lady Googoo went and if she could come back. The reply I got was, “she went into the sun and will never come back.”

I remember back in primary school we had a competition where we had to give a speech about something important to us. A girl in reception class did hers about her Moshi Monsters figure collection, and it was so good she was invited to deliver it to the CEO of Moshi Monsters herself. She was Looked upon by everyone with godlike awe. Sorry, that's such a long and random comment, but I suddenly unlocked a memory.

When I was 8 years old, in 2010/2011, my class was given the task of writing a letter to a company of our choice. I have no idea why. But anyway, I wrote a letter to the CEO of Moshi Monsters/Mind Candy, Michael Acton Smith. I was the only person that year who got a reply - it was a handwritten greetings card thanking me for playing the game, and the envelope was full of so many stickers that I’m still getting through them today. I loved playing Moshi Monsters as a kid, and it was very dear to my heart for this reason. I don’t know much about Michael as a person, but I would say he certainly understands how to make kids smile. The topic of the game’s decline is actually a pretty sad one for me, as a result!

My parents also wrote to him, praising him for the safe space he'd provided for kids curious about the online world, (especially autistic kids like me- my special interest was in moshi monsters and I'm pretty sure my parents mentioned that) and he sent me back a massive goody bag with free membership for 30 days, an iggy plush and loads of stickers along with a code that got me some rare ingame item (think it was the rox wallpaper, not 100 percent sure) and a crystal pricilla moshling figure! most of these are lost to time but i still have a few sticker packs and maybe the iggy somewhere if i looked! i'm pretty sure this was like in 2011-12. i've always felt really affectionate for this towards moshi monsters. i used to go down to the local shop a kilometer from my house every week and buy a pack of the top trumps and the magazine from the minute i was allowed. good times :) Michael Smith from what i've heard and seen is such a lovely guy!

I still own all of these including the literal rarest one (our school called the holographic ones 'rainbow shiny' because well... they were rainbow and shiny) -- I got the rainbow shiny iggy (after convincing my dad to buy it off ebay) I used to show my dad my house and my moshlings. I even managed to get a 1 month membership at one point. After my dad passed away, some of my fondest memories are playing the DS game with him, trying to get him to play the ice-cream game, and showing him my card collection (which I still have!) I also once got a note which said "u are cute" and I remember I started shaking because I also shared my account with my crush at the time and was also terrified because how did they know what I looked like? Okay, between how this game was created because the creator noticed how much children like nurturing things and how they persist now as a mindfulness and sleep app... This may be one of the most genuinely wholesome and not evil video game corporations out there! Seriously. When hearing about how the creator noticed how kids like nurturing things, I couldn't help but let out an audible 'Awwww!' Because you know something? They're right! A lot of people see kids as these hellish, uncaring creatures, but honestly kids are inclined first and foremost to caring about things, and so creating a game geared towards that caring nature is a really nice thing to do! It's very good that this game was created on the foundation of having kids nurturing things over any other kind of gameplay loop or philosophy they could have founded it off of.

Moshi Monsters was such a pinnacle for me, I remember how excited I was for each superhero adventure that came out that you would get to participate on (what were they called??? Super Moshi or something) I hadn't played since like maybe 2013 because my account suddenly stopped working and I never sent an email about it, so this was the very first time hearing about it's shutdown. It's still a shock for me how a large part of my childhood is just gone now, it's crazy that all those years ago was unknowingly the last time I ever would have played the game. RIP Moshi Monsters, you were absolutely incredible

It's so surreal to hear someone talk in depth about something like Moshi Monsters. I never played the game myself but I remember seeing it advertised all over the place. I was really big on web games during my childhood and early teens, and sites like Newgrounds, Kongregate, and Armor Games used to have advertisements for Moshi Monsters that would play before your game would load. I got so used to seeing them and tuning them out that I sort of forgot they were al real things that actually existed.

I had six accounts, and I even managed to convince my parents to pay for the membership for my main monster. My room was full of Moshi merchandise, I still have most of it to this day. I remember buying some of the merch just because it came with a secret code for a rare Moshling or item. They even had a Moshi Monsters event at this theme park I went to, they were giving out a rare Moshling to everyone there. I felt so cool when I got the rare Moshling, until they made it available to everyone a few months later. There was someone dressed as a Katsuma monster that you could take photos with, and I stalked them throughout the whole park. Eventually I lost interest and moved onto games like Stardoll, but I still checked my monster at least once every year until the site closed.

I even once got a thank you letter from Mind Candy for just being a loyal customer. I swear to god I'm not trying to sound like I'm bragging but when their album came out I really felt like I helped to contribute to it, in however small way that me and my family did. i froze when i saw the title nobody talks about moshi monsters anymore but it was my childhood and i still love it so much to this day, hence my name. i was devastated when the site shut down, i actually had to grieve it. my little katsuma gone to the abyss of internet deletion. however there is a rewritten game run by fans which is pretty good! id recommend checking it out. i wish moshi monsters never died, or at least i hope they resurge in popularity one day. i remember seeing the moshling blind bags in build a bear workshop at the mall, id buy one every time i went. to this day i still collect moshlings, i have the ds game, a moshi monsters themed nintendo accessories, and a never ending love for the series. anyway im gonna finish watching the video now lol. thank you for making this

Videos about these old kids MMOs make me kinda sad I grew up without the Internet. They all look so fun and sweet. On the other hand, my parents' money was safely spent on Goosebumps books, Pokemon merch and Mega Bloks Dragons sets instead of virtual memberships, which is neat since I still have most of these books and toys tucked away somewhere, and the membership would have been gone as soon as the game went down, along will all the digital stuff I got with it. Stll, I'm really happy that so many kids have all these wholesome memories of playing these games.

As a kid from the UK I vividly remember various friends being really into Moshi Monsters and trying to get me to make an account, but personally Stardoll was my go-to kid-friendly world. 12 year old me felt so grown up knowing who designers were and decking out my suite, not to mention the insane high school and fantasy roleplays I dove into on the forums. It certainly felt huge at the time (I think they had an official collab with Mattel for some stardoll barbies?) and I'd LOVE to see an Izzzyzzz video on it

When you showed a clip of the moshi monsters walking around in the street I honestly teared up. I’m so glad that it has a “rewritten” version and although my original account is lost to the void this will heal my inner child soooo much 🖤🖤🖤

i find it really funny that younger me never actually realised that moshi monsters was an online game. despite me collecting some toys, playing the ds game and being obsessed with the magazines/collector books, only around the shutdown did i realise it was an online game.

I miss virtual worlds!! It made socializing so much easier and I can’t wait until they get popular again when the time comes

I can say from experience as a kid I lost interest QUICKLY on the merchandise side of things. As more and more moshlings were made I felt less and less attached and less and less drawn to spending money to collect them. Which is honestly just what I think a lot of kids felt too. Though I still hold my Ecto and a little gold wrestler penguin I got close to my heart despite how obvious it is now they were just getting money from me. I'm gonna be happy when in the future their worth goes up (I hope) and I can make some mad money off these little things

Now that you mention it I think the same thing happened to me. While I'm sure a lot of the designs for the newer moshlings were really cool they just weren't CLASSIC like series one was so I think I stopped bothering to ask my mum for them

Congrats, you've uncovered a treasure trove of buried memories! I used to be super addicted to the game. I remember I got the membership a few times (Usually just a 1 month subscription), spent hours shoving passwords into the game to get free stuff, played the games a ton (Mostly the ice cream and cupcake ones, though I also liked some of the animal games in the amusement park), and made my house look absolutely atrocious with all the contrasting items. I also got a decent amount of merch- not a ton but more than anyone else in my school had. I had a White Fang plush, a ton of the blind bag figures (I actually remember stealing a bag from a Build A Bear since I really wanted it and it obviously wasn't supposed to be there since it was on its own by the register and I didn't see anything Moshi Monsters related in the store) that I still own today in the gold collection box that barely shuts properly because of how many are crammed in there, some squishy moshling pencil toppers, and two of the three DS games (Moshling Zoo and Moshlings Theme Park). I remember even having a birthday party with a minor Moshi Monsters theme- I think we still have one or two of the large decals that were a part of it plastered somewhere.

This video brought back so much nostalgia!! I was a moshi monsters superfan back in the day and it was nice to see the old gameplay throughout the video

I was one of the first 10,000 users on Moshi just before the massive boom in popularity and I grew up on this site’s social media aspects with the pinboard for real life school friends and the forums for other kids I didn’t know. I stopped using it around 2012 when they added the word filter and I couldn’t have chaotic conversations anymore I purposefully caused so much drama, saw drama in pinboards and even saw the person who hacked my account gloat about knowing my password on someone’s pinboard. I was devastated but looking back, Moshi really was the wild west to me outside of the fun colourful online world. I miss online worlds like that but I’m glad to see kids being just as unhinged on sites like Roblox
