European in Kenya for 12 years. When local sellers pulled their “mzungu” prices on me, i started shopping in Nakumatt and later Tuskys Miss both of them. But as usual in Kenya, greed and corruption destroys so many things I truly welcome the coming of GenZs
@@samuelmbugua8414oh pliz . Stop bootlicking wazungu. Ama you think atakusaidia securing a visa to poverty strikes Eastern Europe ? Acha ujinga bana. Im sure you'll praise them for slavery and colonialism also
Being among the pioneer employees of Hipora Business Solutions, who quit in 2011, I learned that family businesses are prone to many challenges that may easily bring them down
This is why im not a huge fan of Family run businesses, Alot of family drama and conflicts are brought to the work place. If you ever build a company dont involve your kids in it. When you die let your stake in the company be cashed out and the money be distributed to your children. And the business should continue running in the hands of other professionals and not your kids.
Tuskys a big name, had a good reputation in Kisii especially back to school hype was so nice. Its aesthetics(Green, White and Yellow colours), logo and general supermarket organization was satisfying. I miss PAYING LESS GETTING MORE EVERYDAY.
I pray that you don't stop publishing more stories,,your star will shine while you entertain and educate us through such stories that makes us not repeat same mistakes either in business or in life❤❤🔥🔥
To me NAKUMATT and UCHUMI are irreplaceable icons -- I actually sank into depression when NAKUMATT closed. My favorite was *NAKUMATT MEGA* (Uhuru Highway) and *UCHUMI Capital Center* (Mombasa Road). I still visit these places once in a while for memories, but it seems things will never be the same ever again
I hope you found a job afterwards. The government should have bailed them out -- both TUSKYS, NAKUMATT, and UCHUMI -- to keep people at work. It was sad seeing people lose their jobs in the middle of COVID-19.
Myself I remember when I was a boy in Nakuru we used to shop at his shop in Nakuru town we used to know his shop as "kwa Joram" The shop graduated to a small supermarket known as Magic Mini Supermarket this is where I used to see Yusuf Mugweru Kamau for Stephen Mukuha I used to see him at the shop kwa Joram he used to call me 'WERII" when it was changed to Tusker Mattresses at ALJABRY HOUSE it grew countrywide and in early 2004 it changed the name and to its coming down
the largest tv I ever saw was being in tuskys "tom mboya" street, Nairobi,I still pass by the now closed building with "tuskys" still written on the door,in fact when seeking directions to my passenger clients,I tell them "tupatane tuskys",a business that no longer exists
I remember a nasty incident I had at the hands of some Tuskys staff (the one that used to be along Tom Mboya street it is now Eastmatt). They mistreated me in 2011and I vowed never to go back there. After some time,I saw Eastmatt had replaced it!
Only the founder knows the pain of achieving something. The inheritors wont know what it takes to keep it up. May Joram Kamau the founder rest in peace
You can only imagine the sleepless night that that man used to have while gathering every penny for the future of his kids but unfortunately they misused all of them after the death of their fathers,it couldn't last even for 20 yrs, that's why the scripture says that we do gather for many years but once we die all the harvest will be misused in 1 day
Sometimes the beneficiaries never understand what the founder went through to give them what they have now destroyed...!! Lesson, don't leave your biz in their hands unless you teach them...
Creativity in business is key. We need to embody originality in business. Copying the Nakumatt model was a bad idea. He was obsessed with everything the Shah’s did.
QUITE A SHAME that black African owned family businesses never last like those in Europe, South America and North America!.. That celebrate 50yr,70yr,60yr,100yr🎂 birthday anniversaries. THAT'S BECAUSE OF GREED as the main culprit.
After bringing tuskys down.. Now where are these shareholders? Somewhere trying to do government tenders... They should have divide the branches as per the shares early enough and part ways
Ni ukola na serikali hakuna kitu ya yanya kusaindia suppliers uchumi 3.6 billion tuskeys 8biilion nakumart saidi ya 20 billion na hawa directors wako free warinunua properties kila mahali na pesa ya suppliers
Naivas family is no longer the majority shareholder of Naivas Supermarket chain. Mauritius Investors including IMF are the majority shareholders. This is the reason for there rapid expansion in recent times. The wrangles with the family was solved via court which made two of the siblings as the new administrators of their father's wealth. So your notion is off.
