The Rise & Fall of Discovery Kids 

For me all I remember from discovery kids was truth or scare and 29 down.

This is going to be a long story. One of the channels I started watching was Noggin in America when it was a 24/7 preschool channel after 2007, but the first time I watched Discovery Kids was when I went to Venezuela in 2008, when Doki was the mascot. I watched shows like Lazy Town, Wubbzy, Barney, Sea Princesses, Hi-5, Backyardigans, Charlie and Lola, and other Nickelodeon and Disney classics. The channel had my favorite shows from Noggin. When I went back to New York near the city, I started watching more Discovery Kids and really got into the community. The thing that was annoying was when shows for older children aired on the weekends in America, while Latin America got 24/7 airing of shows I really liked. My guess is because most of them were on Noggin. The shows I remember watching in Discovery Kids USA was Ready Set Learn (Paz), Hi-5, Hip Hop Harry, and Bindi the Jungle Girl. Paz was still airing in America, from 2003-2010, but in Latin America, it was 2003-2006. Another set of commercials that Discovery Kids in Latin America had that the USA didn’t was interstitials. Those were commercials that taught shapes, colors, numbers, letters (vowels), music, antonyms, etc… When I went back to Venezuela back in 2009, I was disappointed when Discovery Kids changed eras, but I got used to the Park Era, and even found the Latin American website and even for Brazil too. I was still watching Discovery Kids in the USA, and even Discovery Familia as well! Their first block being “Discovery Kids En Español”. Doki was the mascot for that channel, and I felt satisfied they still kept their preschool era, but it was annoying when it went to Discovery Familia at night, because then I couldn’t watch Discovery Kids with Doki anymore until the next day. When Discovery Kids got changed to Hub, it hurt me a lot. However, on the same day Discovery Kids got changed to Hub, Discovery Familia got changed to D Familia, and their morning block for Discovery Kids changed to their Park Era with Doki still being the Mascot, and I was still able to watch Sea Princesses. Yeah, Sea Princesses aired on Discovery Familia, but not Discovery Kids itself, which made me a little annoyed. Back then, you could also visit the Discovery Kids website, but now if you visit the website, it’s Spanish from Latin America. I’m glad it got changed back to Discovery Family

Discovery Kids is still up and running here in Mexico as of writing this and the most disappointing part for me is that it only airs Pac-Man and the ghostly adventures at 12 AM on weekends only so that sucks also could you do a rise and fall of ceebiebees?

DK popularity in Latinamerica is huge, as the most widely available preschoolers network in the region.

Discovery Kids was my fav channel in my childhood, I loved watching DK until 2010 when it was the Hub, during weekday mornings, DK had preschool stuff called Ready Set Learn, which was from TLC, and I think of it, like Nickelodeon. But I later watched DK shows on the Internet

The research here could have been better. The Discovery Kids channel came first in 1996, then the NBC Saturday morning block in 2002. Toon Disney and Jetix were not joint ventures between Disney Channel and the ABC broadcast network to name a few.

I distinctly remember being there for the final day of Discovery Kids. They had the little timer in the corner, but everything was playing as normal. I was only 6-9, so it didn’t hit me that I was watching the final hours of my favorite TV channel. I was confused slightly when The Hub logo appeared for the first time, but I kept watching anyway. Fortunately, I was in the prime age for Friendship is Magic, so I wasn’t at all upset when it did finally hit me that I wouldn’t see Peep in the Big Wide World again.

By the way the name of that one show is Tuten Stein not Turton Stein because it’s supposed to be a junior version of King tut

To be fair, Discovery Kids didnt seem like a good channel... Yeah, it did had some good content like Paz the Penguin, Kenny the Shark, The Magic School Bus, Tutenstein and ToddWorld as well as those unique shark teeth bumpers. But the rest... weren't my cup of tea. If anything, it was basically bootleg PBS Kids. (I watched most of these on RU-vid). But The Hub (or Hub Network) in the other hand was amazing. It had alot of iconic stuff in the way similar to Disney XD. They had My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic, Pound Puppies (I personally prefer this one over that 80s cartoon), Dan Vs. and heck... those old WBA cartoons (Animaniacs, Pinky and the Brain, Tiny Toons and Batman: TAS). They did had some of the shows carried from DK, but it was only like five shows (four of them being animated ones) were airing at the time.

i was shocked to find that the beginning sequences and characters in the us and the uk fraggle rock are different. instead of doc and sprocket in a workshop its a retired sailor (whos name i dont kno) and still sprocket, in a light house. the rest of the episodes seem to b the same just different opening characters.

8:14 - yes, i actually did watch quite a few of the shows that aired there that listed; i watched pac-man and the ghostly adventures just like you did, but i also surprisingly watched pound puppies, i watched them both on netflix and unlike most people i actually kinda enjoyed the pac-man cartoon, i also remembered that pound puppies was kinda weird but i still liked it, and there's also a character in it (iirc her name was stroodle) who had an accent and she was my favorite character in it

I remember Discovery Kids very vaguely. I’m not as familiar with it as I am PBS Kids, Qubo, and Smile, but I do remember it as childhood background noise occasionally on Saturday mornings. If you’re taking suggestions, I’d love to see a PBS Kids video (although it’s definitely not a forgotten or defunct channel, but it’s SO nostalgic for me), or a Qubo tier list!

I still remember watching shows from Discovery kids such as The Fixies, Crafty Kids Club, Deadly Arts, Finding Stuff Out, Papyrus, The ghost of Time, Rex Halminton, Quirky Science, On the Spot, Animal Atlas, Rusty the Knight, Horrible Histories, Head Rush, the Wild Kratts, etc. There's a lot of good shows I've watched but couldn't remember. It was such a good tv channel before I lost it.
