In the 90s, Sindy was the only playline fashion doll that could rival Barbie in terms of looks and quality. She also was a cheaper option. Mattel should've left her alone, anyone could tell Barbie and Sindy apart.
My heart will always belong to Sindy, she was the doll that I grew up with in the late 70s and early 80s. Once they started changing her face though it was pretty much heart breaking for me. What had made Sindy different and unique from Barbie was stripped away and replaced with IMO a dull doll who wasn't Sindy anymore. Sindy went back to her roots a few years back with her old face back once again and after a series of collector dolls a new play line Sindy doll was launched. Sadly earlier this year it was announced that that was coming to an end, even sadder considering that this year is her 60th Anniversary.
Oh that's such a shame the reboot has come to an end this year 🥲 Sindy truly had her own identity that was 💯 british and while I do love hasbro's sindy dolls, seeing her turn into a suntanned californian bottle blonde was jarring to say the least 😅 thank you for watching 💖

@@lorrainecurran9157 Unfortunately Pedigree announced earlier this year that Kids Kreations would no longer be making the dolls, they did hint that it wasn't going to be the end of Sindy - hopefully there will be some sort of release to celebrate her 60th Anniversary. I loved the new dolls too, but maybe it was more the nostalgia.
@@dontcallmedoll Yes, I think the complete shift from English rose/girl next door to Barbie clone was a bit too jarring for many. They did bring her back later in 2006 but this time they went in the opposite direction and she was more childlike and was again completely unrecognisable. I think once they started to mess with her it was hard to bring her back and by the time they did it was probably more nostalgic adults who bought her than children.
Hello - Sindy has a special magic and charm all her own. That can never be taken away by Barbie or Integrity. There will always be faithful Sindy fans who grew up with her, who collect her, dress her, and love to have her around. Long live Sindy in our hearts and minds ... and on our display shelves to model and pose as just she can. Happy collecting.
I love Sindy! Even though I didn't have it as a child, but I collected stickers for Sindy's album by Upper Deck. I recently found this magazine, I'm trying to find the missing stickers. And I also bought myself those Sindy dolls from the 90s! Right now they are standing on my desk and pleasing me. And this is not the end, there are new Sindy dolls from the 90s ahead. I knew about the beef between MGA and Mattel over Bratz, but I had no idea that Mattel went after other companies as well. God forbid someone else comes up with a doll line that isn’t produced by Mattel. 😭
I had a couple of Cindy's as a child in the 90's. She was the only fashion doll they sold at the supermarket in Australia so when we went grocery shopping i must have begged mum to buy her. I remember getting one with pink plastic looking pants and when you put them in water the pink plastic layer came off and the pants underneath were green with pink monkeys. 😆 Yes monkeys 🐒 Her top was a fluro yellow and blue leopard print long sleeved bodysuit. I remember her clothes didn't fit Barbie properly. She had less curves, like the modern Barbies.
The funny thing about this video is that I got the Cindy and Go-Go doll when I was maybe 6 or 7 years old and until I was an adult and wanted my “Barbie” back I didn’t realize she wasn’t ever a Barbie to begin with!! Lol so in that case I think Mattel was right because as a young child I never even knew the difference of them that’s how much they looked alike lol. Now I own 1 Cindy doll but I still would like to get my Cindy and Go-Go back. Not sure if you know this but Go-Go was an actual toy dog that you could walk my sister had the actual life size dog and I was given the Cindy with Go Go because I loved the dog so much and I loved Barbies. Great video really enjoyed all the history I had no idea of any of it! ❤
Sindy was indeed popular in Greece at the '90, maybe even outselling Barbie. It probably also helped that Sindy was a straightforward, honest product as a fashion doll unlike Barbie that was so pretentious as a "positive role model for girls" with Barbie doing many different jobs (except labor jobs of course). Also the real life women they used for Sindy commercials was probably another plus.
Sindy looked more like a magical girl then barbie almost anime like. And she had the cutest compacts which looked sailor moon ish. It’s such a shame they didn’t let Sindy carry on 😢
I was born in Scotland in '75 and I grew up playing with Sindy dolls - I had one of my own plus two passed onto me by older sisters. I had a Barbie doll too but I much preferred the Sindys. I think there was a difference in the material used - Barbies seemed very plastic and solid. I have Asperger's and I found my Barbie horrible to handle. Sindy had a more rubbery texture and could be easily moved and because she looked (originally) more like a 'girl next door' you could imagine adventures for her. The Sindy horse was beautiful too.
I'm also Autistic, an' grew up in the 90's wi' secondhand Sindy fae charity shops & carboot sales. I didny really like Barbie. I only like't the soft bodied wan i had in blue pajamas, an' ma swimsuit Christine(I hink thats her name). I much prefer't Sindy, an' auld Action Men,,,especially the eagle eyed Action Man 😹 both dolls would be lookin' sideways at each other. I absolutely loved Sindy doll furniture & wee items, as well. Bed, table, wardrobe, cushion chest fir the bottom of the bed, dressin' table. But, the furniture was sae delicate, they broke, especially in transit, when movin' hoose. The horses leg broke at its ankle. But, I still loved the designs, an' didny hink much te Barbie designs, in comparison. Even 90's Sindy, was a vast improvement on Barbie, as Sindy still had better feet. I didny like the change, but, I justified 1 90's Sindy, gotten fae the post office, as she had "real feet".

When I was really wee, I bit the hands off ma sister's ballerina Sindy. I cannae mind that, but I had tae make it up tae her, so I bought her an auld ballerina Sindy of Ebay for her last birthday. She was 54😅. She loves it though.

Mattel (i love) Does not own blonde hair and blue eyes, Steffi doll also has blonde hair blue eyes, as do many other dolls, Mattel sadly, wanted to fight with any doll company that would produce a doll that could potentially wear Barbie fashions. I love Maxie and Rob, Sindy and Paul, Barbie and Ken Jem and Rio... so many dolls to collect, and I love them all.
Ahhhh I remember I had both Sindy and Barbies as a kid! I never saw them as the same character and would play them as friends of each other. Though, I did prefer Barbie over Sindy, I still have respect for 90s Sindy as she did make my childhood that much better.
It’s rich that Barbie went after Sindy…when Barbie herself was stolen by Americans and they never acknowledged or paid the makers of the original German doll.

I always preferred Sindy - the original Sindy when I was growing up; not just because she was British like me, but the two Dolls (Sindy and Barbie) were very different back then; I mean Sindy looked very pure and innocent which is better for kids - Barbie in contrast looked (and still does!) as if she 'puts it about a bit'! Also; Sindy had a boyfriend called 'Paul' in the early days who looked as pure and as innocent as Sindy did - whereas Barbie had 'Ken'. Paul looked really nice and looked the kind of boy that would take Sindy out for the evening perhaps holding hands, take her round the corner on the way home, give her a nice cuddle and peck on the cheek; in contrast,. Ken always looked like he would take Barbie into the bushes and give her a good roddin! I mean you’ve only got to watch the Barbie movie to see that all Ken wanted to do was to give Barbie one... So for me, especially when you think these Dolls are toys (though there are now many adult collectors) Sindy and Paul were far healthier - Barbie not so... She’d encourage little girls to grow up too fast - I mean a pregnant Barbie!??? Okay, so they withdrew her, but what the f**k was that all about!??

The vintage Sindys was ment to be the wholesome girl next door she preferred the country to the beach and loved ponies and chatting to other Sindys as you could get them blonde brunette or Auburn I could imagine them having a coffee morning sitting chatting then later them going horse riding or going for a drive in the big red Land Rover and also Sindy wore clothes you’d maybe wear my mum preferred Sindy to Barbie but I didn’t like the way Sindy went she turned into a Barbie clone they should have left her way she was also even liked what they called the smirky Sindy
Ah, but Sindy has been revived in recent years. No in the most professional manner. But, there was still a Limited Edition set of dolls & then a play range. So, will the Sindy vs. Barbie war be back on, eventually 😹 or will the new company keep Sindy that similar te her 1970's appearance, that Mattel canne complain & jus' asserts itsel' as bigger & better via their feature length Barbie advert, in order te overshadow any competition.
So, how many doll lines/brands that Mattel/Barbie has 'murdered'? Never been a real fan of Barbie aside from a few late 90s ones I had as a child, esp not fond of how militant her defenders are, how they always call any other brands than barbies as 'clones' when barbie herself started off as a ripoff of bild lily
Well, it hasny affected Japan, at least. They have their offshoot of Barbie, the Jenny & Licca dolls. Jenny is mair equivalent te Barbie & Licca mair equivalent te Sindy. Then there's obviously Momoko, thats like a collectors Barbie level. But, Japan has a quality te their dolls, that I feel if American doll companies started on them, the Japanese companies would be ready & ready te win 🤣 so, its no even wirth it. Hec, Blythe dolls got resurrected in Japan 🤔 so, mibbe, te secure Sindy's future, whomever has her rights, should consider teamin' up wi' a Japanese company. Might bring in the creativity & fundin' required, as well as protect her fae Mattel. Test her in the Japanese market first, then bring her back te the western worlds market. A bit like they did wi' Blythe dolls.
I'd almost forgotten about Petra dolls 🤔 i hink I discovered them when lookin' up whit type of Sindy & whit decades the mair articulated Sindy's were. I was probably also lookin' up Suzy & Sheena dolls, as well, that ma mum has.
