Ryan, Why do you dance around the Bob Jones University controversy without citing the specific case?

Segregation as it was practiced relied on government enforcement, that is, authoritarianism. When evangelicals are consistent with the gospel, they would not support segregation imposed by the state.

So as one who recognizes a clear distinction between Evangelicals and Fundamentalists, I am a bit troubled at the lack of clear distinction in this video, since we Evangelicals are often stereotyped as "fundamentalists" by the irreligious. And I should have known better than to read the comment section, but it does surprise me that there's so much anti-Christian hostility here, given that this is a channel dedicated to Christian theology.

Can one be a fundamentalist and still be modern? My veiw of fundamentalism is simple believing in the core fundamentals of the Gospel, Genesis etc. Nothing to do with racism etc. But then, I am in Australia.

Great video/lecture. I found it helpful to watch it subsequent to "Liberalism and the Church". We might observe the early church father Tertullian and the plethora of information on his discourses concerning how a Christian should function in a modern pagan society and his rebuttals against secular society. Tertullian might be one of the first of well known persons to assume this evangelical type approach.

I think an important factor that is key to the 'segregation/civil rights' issue was the fear of communism at the time, which was associated with many of those leaders including MLK Jr. himself. There was much cause for concern. Now we see the fruits of civil rights which has largely been societal division in the cultural-Marxist context.

I'm a christian turned atheist. My tenacious mind slowly consumed my faith. However, if I was to find undeniable proof that the God of Moses is really our creator, then I would humbly repent! Life is short, so I'm searching, reading, listening,..exploring ALL avenues of thought available to religion & science for the truth. And, your videos most likely contain the answers I seek. It would be a real bummer to die as an atheist, only to discover I'm wrong while standing in front of those pearly gates!

All of my tv programs on Comcast cable over the last 3 years are archived on youtube, just put Richard allinger in the search box...each 6o minute program makes clear what I proved in my master's thesis of 35,000 words...that the 16th century reformation cannot be over. the theologian of the 16th century john calvin is my relative on my mother's side 500 years ago , 12 generations removed...his only brother was my great (5x) -grandfather. "Semper Reformanda" ...Maranatha!

Phd. student Richard Allinger reinforces the need for the continuation of the Reformation which started five centuries ago for the following six reasons cited in his book "The Reformation Cannot Be Over !": i. God speaks today. ii. Theologians make mistakes. iii. New issues require new thinking. iv. Scriptures must have priority over confessions. v. The right of private judgment. vi. Above all, it is important that we engage in the process of (semper reformanda) "always reforming" in the proper spirit and manner.

Your lectures on ancient and medieval religion were excellent. I learned a great deal. In these lectures on modern religion, especially the late 19th and early 20th century, I learned almost nothing. After watching this I still have no idea how Evangelicalism (as a movement) came to be. I could not even tell you what Evangelicalism really is. I just cannot follow you. Graham is CLEARLY hostile, very critical, and anti-intellectual. There is no other honest way to describe Graham's message or legacy. I know you work for one of those Universities. I suspect that holds you back from honestly or clearly explaining this.

Ryan, Please tell me when and how evolution began being taught in public schools. They say that it is science; however, it is a theory only; it has not been proven and probably never will be. However, it is taught in school as if it is a fact. I love your teachings.

The question for me and many other thinking people is how much should the Bible inform our world view? There are dichotomies that have arisen in our thinking that distract and confuse. These are nature/grace and science/religion and faith/reason. You briefly mention the late Francis Schaeffer who had a high level of integrity when it came to answering honest questions. You avoid the influence the impact of co-mingling the scientific world-view with the Biblical message that speaks from the if you like, the stars to man. The enlightenment pushed back against the reformation with its emphasis on solely by scripture. With the advent of personal computers and new search engines individuals can now do their own research and do not have to rely on the commentary of the likes of theological professors and their half baked ideas. I'm certain that if Francis Schaeffer were alive today he would have totally revised many of his views including the idea that we live on a spinning globe as he certainly took scripture seriously. Tesla told us the Earth was flat and stationary and the Sun and Moon rotated around the Earth. The Bible tells us that also along with other extra biblical books such as the book of Enoch. Less theological commentary and more attention to scripture is needed. Shalom

People forget that God often puts people in office. The prayers (or lack thereof) of the people will be answered by God as to who reigns. People were praying for God to revive America, and we finally got Donald Trump. Finally we have a real president in the White House again.
