The Rise Of Hurrem #32 - New Threat To Hurrem's Love "I CAME FOR SULEIMAN"
Click here to watch The Rise Of Hurrem 👉 • The Rise Of Hurrem - M...
At the age of 26, when he ascended to the throne, Sultan Suleiman aimed to build an empire more powerful than Alexander the Great and to render the Ottomans invincible. Throughout his 46-year reign, he became the greatest warrior and ruler of both East and West.
The young Suleiman received news of his succession to the throne during a hunting party in 1520. Unaware that he would be ruling a reign beyond his dreams, he left behind his wife son and took to the road with his close friend and companion Pargali Ibrahim to reach the Topkapi Palace in Istanbul. As they started their journey overland, an Ottoman ship set sail from Crimea in the Black Sea, bringing female slaves as gifts for the Ottoman palace… On this ship was Alexandra La Rossa, the daughter of a Ukrainian Orthodox minister, taken away from her family and sold to the Crimean palace. She had no idea that she would become Hurrem, wife of Sultan Suleiman and mother of princes, ruling the empire with him through bloodshed and intrigue.
As Sultan Suleiman conquered the world, his great passion for Hurrem would clash with his love for and trust in his closest friend and advisor, Grand Vizier Pargali Ibrahim, all set against the backdrop of the tension between Christian Europe and the Ottoman Empire in the 16th century.

Wish Hürrem continued being this calm and levelheaded when dealing with threats and rivals instead having tantrums and screaming.

that's how the real hurrem was, and she wasn't throwing tantrums here though. all she did was request for suleiman to love only her, and she got what she wanted at the end, if she didn't do anything. she would've faded away like mahidevren

@@treasureikpeaNo, she wasn't. In real life she was half snake, removing rivals one by one with mercy. She only loved power and money.

What interesting is that, if the Venetian report that recorded this event is true, this entire incident could be pointed to as where Suleiman began to make it clear that he only intended to be with Hürrem from here on out and, even more than that, that his mother _accepted_ such a thing. So, you know, exactly the opposite of what's in the show 😅

Yes, I'm reading a book on Hurrem atm. She & Valide Hafsa actually liked & respected each other. When Hurrem was upset at the concubines' arrival, Hafsa was remorseful & took them back!

@@hivemistressherguineapigfa8563 There's unfortunately very little directly recorded about Hürrem's interactions with Suleiman's family, but the fact that there's literally not a single recorded incident of them ever speaking out or otherwise challenging her unprecedented rise has always stood out to me.

The real Sutlan was faithful mostly to Hurrem. I think some people no matter how powerful they are prefer one partner over lots. He was certainly powerful enough to ignore her upset he didn't really love her. I think that's where this tv series cheated the viewer of real history. The sultan comes out looking fickle except for certain scenes here and there and hurrem as the long suffering victim when she was actually quite a power player. If she did arrange for Mustafa to died it was either him or her kids so really what choice did she have. Wouldn't most mothers do what they could to make sure their kids lived.

A lot of it definitely comes down to a reliance on soap opera themes, I think, but, while the show rehabilitates her image a bit, it's difficult at times for the narrative to detach her from the image of the "scheming" historical figure that was so incorrectly attributed to her in Turkish historical storytelling. So, it feels like the writers' are, at times, trying to drag Hürrem by including these "other women" nonstop or trying to "remind" the audience she's "wicked" with various schemes. In the latter case, the most obvious example is the show deciding to make it seem like Hürrem had to fabricate evidence to bring Mustafa down when...no, he made one _very big_ mistake it and it tragically doomed him. Hürrem might not have begged for his life to be spared (for reasons you've already mentioned) but wasn't her and or Rüstem's "lies" that brought about Mustafa's downfall.

There is zero evidence of him being unfaithful.

He had a lot of children and only 6 of them were hurrem's. The show is much more accurate than you think, hurrem may have not acted this recklessly but she did do things that manipulated the sultan and got her to where she was. It's not possible for a sultan as magnificent as suleiman to only be faithful to one woman, when he had a harem full of girls younger and much more beautiful than hurrem

I loved this little mehmet. He looks just like my youngest grandson but with black hair. I think the children was so amazing. This was absolutely a fantastic series. Yes most of it made up like the other concubines after they married but it made for good tv.

@@keizelharf5393 Yes! She worked alongside of Suleiman to give her endorsement to it as head of the harem and because only one of the women had been made to join the harem directly while the other was placed into her service. I actually like the expanded theory, though, that Hafsa as a former slave concubine herself would be able to relate to Hürrem's discomfort over the matter and wish to supply aid. “The most remarkable feature of Bragadin’s account, however, was Suleyman and Hafsa’s willingness to accommodate Roxelana’s sentiments. It seems the concubine’s bold presumption of rank did not offend the sultan and queen mother. *Indeed, Hafsa appears to have been remorseful. Suleyman and especially his mother, herself a former slave consort, would understand the young concubine’s determination to protect herself and her son at all costs.* If Roxelana acted out of pure jealousy, hers was likely not the first such display to occur in the harem.” - Peirce, Leslie, _Empress of the East: How a European Slave Girl Became Queen of the Ottoman Empire_

@@keizelharf5393 So, that's because, while both women were gifted into the harem (a very usual practice), only _one_ of them had been intended for Suleiman. The other had been taken into the service of Hafsa, Suleiman's mother, which is actually mentioned at 13:32. It's why the 1526 report from the Venetian Bragadin references both the sultan _and_ his mother sending the women away for Hürrem's sake. (It's suggested, though, that Hafsa could relate to Hürrem's concerns far more, which I agree with.) "The mother, who had given her maiden to the sultan, was sorry about what she had done, took her back, and sent her to one of the governors as wife, and the sultan agreed to send his to another governor, because his wife would have perished from sorrow if these maidens, or even one of them, had remained in the palace.” - Leslie Peirce, _Empress of the East: How a European Slave Girl Became Queen of the Ottoman Empire_
