With King Aerys dead and having no sons of his own the iron throne passed to his youngest brother Maekar Targaryen, a man no one could have predicted would become king. But in truth King Maekar was much better suited to be king that his elder brother. He commanded resect and had proved himself in the Blackfyre Rebellion. Most important of all for the future of house targaryen is that Maekar had six children of his own so for now the succession seemed more secure than ever.
