Depends if you catch the tide right! This time it was against the tide and it took us about 6 hours, not that we were pushing it. With the tide it probably took 2.5 hours

Sorry about late reply, started at an old slip way in fatfield just downstream of the green bridge!

@@storesystores Think that was for the old Ferry that was used by miners living in Penshaw and working at North Biddick. I have noticed a lot of kayakers using it this year. Different streches of the river have names, given in the old keel boat times. The river upstream of that slipway to Fatfield Bridge is called Cow Roads, the corner of the river opposite near the weeping willow is called The Dog Hole and the straight from the Dog Hole to the Viaduct is called The Long Reach.
